- In this video, we’ll look at a way to build a resilient portfolio - a portfolio you can keep for the long-term that historically has had a good rate of return but which was not too prone to long, deep crashes.

Sorry, Ramin, but you're going to lose your audience if 50-66% of the video is a commercial.... 😒
Lol what an exaggeration, was like 15% of the video maybe 20% max but only because this one is a shorter video , idk why people get so bothered about it just skip it if you don’t care, it helps UA-camrs keep making free content for viewers
Edit : oh ok you mean cuz of the second bit too but I think that was just part of making the point in the video about different portfolios
These kind of simplier videos are great for beginner investors. You can skip and watch other videos for now mate.
Hi @djayjp our website members get the commercial free version of the video. But I'm afraid these sponsorships allow us to make free content which many people find valuable. And we're very selective about the products we mention. Thanks, Ramin.
@@Pensioncraft I completely understand the need for it but honestly it was too much this time for such a short video. I didn't click to hear about rebalancing features in InvestEngine for a 100th time and a few minutes for the actual video topic.
With success comes great re sponsoribility..
Only holding small cap stock exposure is unwise imo. Yes they may have outperformed in the past, but as the last decade has shown that may not persist.
The point of this portfolio is not to outperform but to be resilient
This portfolio is anything but resilient
@@j4jjj small caps tend to crater far more than bluechips when the SHTF
Interesting. When tools like the Investengine portfolio creator say "Bonds" - do they mean Sovereign bonds / gilts or corporate bonds? Do they mean individual bonds held to maturity, or bond funds?
ok this was 70% product placement
Hi Ramin, I want to know what you think about covered call ETFs used to increase yield percentage in a dividend growth portfolio
Is your objective growth or income? If the former, then no, they are a poor choice.
Many happy returns - good postcast, worth a listen to anyone able to get access (Spotify for me)
Agreed, great listen every Wednesday 👍
Thanks @TomsPersonalFinance! Nice to see you here. Ramin
Hi @coderider3022 thank you! It's good thanks to Michael Pugh's hard work. Thanks, Ramin.
Thank You.
You're welcome @DPTrainor1
Tesla had a stock split in Aug 2020, hasn't that mucked up the chart? On other charts of the Tesla stock price the actual peak seems to be in Jan 2021.
Peak was Nov 2021
This was a commercial 😂
What’re your thoughts on invest engine?
Just looked at the fees. Seems pretty cheap. Need to compare that to vanguard though which I haven't done yet to have a clearer picture. They have a table comparing their fees to free trade, interactive investors and AJ bell which of of they are much cheaper than. But I suspect one of the reasons 212 and vanguard aren't in the list of compared is because they are cheaper. You probably have a lot more choice on what you invest in on invest engine though in comparison to vanguard. Vanguard is quite limited.
You can buy Vanguard funds cheaper than their own platform.
simplicity is best, just hold one low cost world etf when you're young and dilute that as you get older with buying property slowly and renting it out
Too much hassle with property. More & more regulations make it not worth it. My much smaller portfolio out performs rental income every single time & no hassle. All the financial savvy ppl I know are unloading their properties & sticking it in ETF's.
That is a weird portfolio Long term bonds and small cap ? Sounds like a bloodbath to me but portfolio chart tells a different story not for me though
I agree that it _seems_ weird @chadzoe1 but the backtests look surprisingly good. We talked about it on our podcast too with the creator of the strategy many-happy-returns.captivate.fm/episode/value-stock-geek Thanks, Ramin.
Long terms bond are bad right now, but have been pretty solid before, especially during crises.
@@PensioncraftTextbook example for "past performance doesn't guarantee future results". I'm sure there are many weird stuff one could construct based on back testing but it doesn't mean we should. It's very interesting for a discussion, but I find quite dangerous to present this as THE resilient strategy. Would you personally use this as your pension portfolio? Thought so.
@@dronevilOO Still, its an interesting discussion, and concerning past performance - this is all we have in terms of some solid data - everything else would literally be conjecture because we know little of the future and we must assume what we know of the past an the present is mostly correct - which it may very well not be, as it turned out so so many times before. While my own portfolio is vastly different than this weird one, still, there are many similarities and the main one is DIVERSIFICATION into different asset classes, equity sectors. Best advice for "past performance doesn't guarantee future results".
@@MagicNash89 If those asset classes and sectors are not good and hence high risk then the diversification itself is of little benefit. I agree it's very interesting for a discussion, but I worry that people who don't spend a lot of time researching might jump on it by default. For example, looking at the title I expected a resilient strategy that I might potentially use for my small SIPP pension, to diversify away from a single fund. If something is truly resilient, it would be a good candidate for a pension portfolio, no? Would you really use this one for that purpose? Discussions are good, but some more disclaimers are even more important here. And to get that point across clearly, it doesn't help that 80% of the video is a commercial.
Interesting video! And certainly food for thought!
Thanks for watching! @patrickkelley4281
Most of your videos now seem to be sponsored. Is it possible to inform us before we start that you have been paid for the video. I am not sure what is a commercial plug and what is your opinion?
How can we trust anything you're saying when video is sponsored by investment platform?
Hi @pineappleproponent4698 I'm not sure what you think the conflict of interest is - this is a video about the "Weird Portfolio" backtested using historical data from PortfolioCharts. It's not a review of UK investment platforms. Thanks, Ramin
you need someone on youtube to help you with your investmets? 😂 no you dont
Stocks usually rally towards this time of the year but it is going to be a red January and tough for investors in the new year. I have been holding stocks to sell at a profit at this time but it isn’t looking so, going into 2023 I am in a fight to hold or to sell.
The market has been a turmoil since covid, the brief relief rallied for only a year and now the devastating effects of pumping trillions into the economy is here and will be for a while.
Sell only if you need those funds. I got laid off and it has been difficult getting another source of income, glad I was investing when I did. The penalties for drawing are nothing compared to what I am facing with my family.
These adverts and constant plugging these different platforms as got way to much, these paid adverts as really weakened what your strengths were. Cant watch them anymore 😔
sorry, but this is the worst vdo of yours. you are losing yourself Ramin
InvestEngine 👍
So am i right in thinking there's no set up fee, no charges to buy and sell etfs no dealing fees, no platforn fee and no charges if you invest your money and leave it to hopefully grow, no charges if you don't put any more money into the investengine isa once you set it up and invested some money into a portfolio. So is it free of charges to invest in their isa. Am i correct in my assumptions
Yes, I use it, it's excellent@@fredatlas4396
@@fredatlas4396yeah only fees are the fees of the ETFs you pick.
Or a 0.25% account fee if you choose to let IE managed your ISA for you.
I’m currently sitting on cash just waiting for a crash to start a position on the S&P500…. I can smell a WW3 very soon!
Time in the market > timing the market
The whole point of index investing is to avoid making those sort of timing decisions.
If you think a war benefits small retail investors, then you are naive.
