- Sky News political reporter Cameron Reddin discusses the “per capita recession” Australians are feeling as the country struggle under the cost-of-living crisis.
“Any economist will tell you a per capita recession is what people actually feel, that means you are going backwards, even if the economy on the numbers and the numerical basis of it might be going forward,” Mr Reddin told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“Per head it means people are going backwards and six straight quarters now is what we have been in.”
Importing so many people was a deliberate ploy to keep gdp growth positive and also to cover up the excess deaths that have been occuring. At this point its painfully obvious how little the political establishment cares about the average Aussie and should they should be treated with the same contempt
Spot on. i have been an activist for 25 years, and the cuts to social spending the privatizasation of essential services, so the mentally can't afford they care they need, is nothing short of pre-meditated murder. For every women that dies due to domestic violence, 11 women and 15 men suicide due to Parental Alienation, and courts do nothing about it.

I agree, productivity growth is key. We need to encourage businesses to adopt new technologies and processes. But it’s not just about adopting new technologies. We need to create an environment that fosters a culture of innovation.
Infrastructure development is also vital. It creates jobs and stimulates economic activity. When we invest in infrastructure, we're not just building roads, bridges, and buildings - we're building a foundation for future growth and prosperity.
infrastructure development is not just about economic growth - it's also about quality of life. It's about creating livable cities, with green spaces, public transport, and community facilities. It's about connecting regional communities to urban centers, and promoting social inclusion.
But we also need to address income inequality. Ensure the benefits of growth reach all Australians.
That’s going to be a very difficult one to address and that’s why I’ve been in contact with a CFA to avoid getting caught off guard by the potential downsides of the recession.

We are not in recession. Unemployment is the key feature of a recession. The unemployment rate in the 1991 recession was 11%. The current unemployment rate in Au is 3.7%.

You are correct about immigration but remember the history. Big immigration started in the 2000s under Howard and is causing all of us to be poorer. The biggest issue in the country is actually the housing Ponzi scheme we run to make Australians feel wealthy. It’s made housing investors very rich but it’s locked my kids out of ever buying a house even though they and their partners have good jobs. The biggest chunk of most people’s income (for the 2/3 of Aussies that either have a mortgage or pay rent) is spent on their housing costs. The 1/3 that own their home are laughing.
Asset inflation is the killer. People who own assets - houses and stocks get rich in their sleep, and thanks to Howard in 1999 we give them a 50% discount on their capital gain when they sell their asset and they can claim the negative gearing (the interest on their assets) as a tax deduction against their income. Meanwhile all the workers in Australia who do the jobs that actually keep the country running, pay full marginal rate tax on their income while they’re trying to save the impossible $250,000+ to get a house deposit and then put themselves into debt slavery with the bank for 30 years. Where we live house prices more than doubled from early 2020 through to 2022. So our kids need to pay for more than two houses now to get one. Same house, same income but interest rates tripled what they were and prices more than double. That’s pain!
