Azog’s weapon definitely wasn’t very good for fighting on ice. That weapon requires a high amount of momentum to have maximum effectiveness. But attacks with a lot of momentum are counterproductive when done while standing on ice.
What if, 2:27-4:49 is actually all a hallucination from his sickness, and what if Thorin actually died from battle injuries sustained earlier, Azog could have easily drowned, but in Thorin’s mind, he was still fighting azog, Thorin holding back Azog with his sword is symbolism for Thorin fighting and wanting to live, but when he lets Azog stab him, he has finally overcome the sickness and accepted his fate Notice how no one notices that Azog is dead, maybe because his body is nowhere to be found, or ..... still in the water
people definitely noticed Azog was dead, but they probably didn’t mention it because Thorins death overshadowed Azogs death. Also what kind of sickness would Thorin have?
Thorin knew if he was going down he was taking his enemy with him. Thrain sacrificed himself to protect his son, but Thorn would’ve made his nephews is heirs. But both Kili and Fili died. So that was heartbreaking

Ashley Bradley Only cuz it was in the script, in real life he would get pwned by Azog. Size (for extra reach) and strength are of utmost importance in fights, and the orc has like three times as much of both. Why he uses rock on a chain instead of say a spiked chain is anyone's guess though.

My ballpark estimate of that stone's weight is around 325 kg (0.5m side x 2.6 granite density). What Azog does with this weight is of course pretty amazing although somewhat expected considering his height, weight and overall physique. I'm more impressed with the casual lift and toss of the stone by Thorin, who as a dwarf should be around 1.25m and 50kg even if built like Shwarzenegger in his prime and scaled down proportionally. We are in the realm of insect-like strength here.

Ok, I cant be the only person to notice this, at 2:00 when Thorin tosses the boulder thing at Azog, the ice doesn't start tipping til Thorin steps off... I have only one question... HOW MUCH DOES THORIN WEIGH?!?! Azog is like 7 ft tall, how can they weigh roughly the same, in addition to a giant boulder?
Ever studied levers, weight and fulcrum point in high school years? Thorin was at the edge of the ice and azog was close to the centre, hence the ice piece is in balance. the second Thorins weight was lifted off, it sets the lever off balance. The further away from the fulcrum point, the less the weight needed to keep the lever (ice piece) in balance.

I'm sorry but Thorin could've easily avoided dying here. Why is it that the hero just stands around watching the villain die then the villain ALWAYS, ALWAYS gets back up and kills the hero. Every single time.
Good lord, the music...Anyone else notice that when Thorin accepts his fate and the one chance to bring Azog down with him, there is the briefest and most regal hint of the theme played when the eagles rescue him in the first movie? Just haunting...
Saw this in theaters and I was literally the only person in the entire theater that night watching this beast of a movie and it almost brought tears to my eyes how good this scene was
Why did Thorin think Azog drowned in like 15 seconds and how in the name of sweet heavenly fuck did Azog jump through the thick ice as high as about two times his height?
Dramawind he did not drown. He was obviously holding his breath. The ice was cracked in some places. It was a shallow river. The river bed was not completely flat. Maybe there was a boulder in there.
This epic duel would have been inspired from the iconic combat between Morgoth & Fingolfin in the book Silmarillion. It reads the tales of the first age of middle earth; many thousands of years before to this scene.
We need to stop comparing this to the lord of the rings. All six of these movies are brilliant. In the same exact world from before. Now let’s hope this new show doesn’t ruin the assurance character😂
3:31 The only thing I can criticize about this shot, is that thorin could have slanted the blade and make Azog slide his blade down to the left, with THAT amount of pressure, he wouldn’t be able to maintain the direction. If they had just committed to Azog drowning instead of cheaply coming back alive, this would've been the coolest most fitting death for a powerful unstoppable force. Just have Thorin suffer a fatal wound right before the Eagles show up and then have the mighty Azog the Defiler pathetically drown.
I dunno bout y'all but i think that would've been so fitting.
I agree, but not a fatal wound, but a debilitating one to where Thorin becomes helpless while kneeling on the ice and Azog taking his time to walk up to him while gloating about his "celebrated-too-early" victory.

People completely underestimate dwarfs because of their height.
The only reason why dwarfs are "less powerful" than elves and men is because of their *numbers* and self destructive traits.
They could live up to 250 years old in the times of the Third Age. Dwarves are very famous for their battle prowess, superb craftsmanship, mining, and a high resistance to the corrupting influence of evil.
Aragorn was incredibly ferocious and fast for his imposing height, able to keep up with dozens at a time and win.
Do not forget he and Gimli singlehandedly held back the orc army at Helm's Deep.
Aragorn would still beat him.

How does Azog get the momentum to burst through ice from underwater?
Writer: "Because I wrote it in the script"
This scene is such bad writing. Reminds me of the last season's of game of thrones...
It's a literal movie with magic and monsters.
My question is how the hell did he magically just spring out of the water through the ice head first unless there was invisible gymnastic straps attached to him with a force blasting shield

Azog’s weapon definitely wasn’t very good for fighting on ice. That weapon requires a high amount of momentum to have maximum effectiveness. But attacks with a lot of momentum are counterproductive when done while standing on ice.
What if, 2:27-4:49 is actually all a hallucination from his sickness, and what if Thorin actually died from battle injuries sustained earlier, Azog could have easily drowned, but in Thorin’s mind, he was still fighting azog,
Thorin holding back Azog with his sword is symbolism for Thorin fighting and wanting to live, but when he lets Azog stab him, he has finally overcome the sickness and accepted his fate
Notice how no one notices that Azog is dead, maybe because his body is nowhere to be found, or ..... still in the water
thats actualy a really cool theory
people definitely noticed Azog was dead, but they probably didn’t mention it because Thorins death overshadowed Azogs death. Also what kind of sickness would Thorin have?
Thorin knew if he was going down he was taking his enemy with him. Thrain sacrificed himself to protect his son, but Thorn would’ve made his nephews is heirs. But both Kili and Fili died. So that was heartbreaking

Innit, Thorin is literally 5ft lmao

I'm sorry but Thorin could've easily avoided dying here. Why is it that the hero just stands around watching the villain die then the villain ALWAYS, ALWAYS gets back up and kills the hero. Every single time.
Good lord, the music...Anyone else notice that when Thorin accepts his fate and the one chance to bring Azog down with him, there is the briefest and most regal hint of the theme played when the eagles rescue him in the first movie? Just haunting...
I noticed
The opening part of this fight reminded me of a Kurosawa flick.
Desperation
Thorin: it's over Azog! I got the high ground!
Azog: you understimate my power
Thorin: don't try it...
Allowing Thorin to strike. Sure, isn’t as epic, but that would’ve been more swordsman accurate.
