Another piece of technology that can be used creatively or to get you out of trouble is Beatjump. For example if the hook is 8 bars and the intro of the song you want to mix in has a 2 bar intro, if you beatjump back 6 bar you can beat match from the start of the hook not having to worry about the timing and phrasing issue of the short intro.
Being UK garage DJ on vinyl back in the days in late 90s early 2000z, it was all about the rewind or spinback lol cue points are great advance in tech if done correctly
Like clockwork, I always analyze, scan, tag and set CUE points on all my tracks before playing. Usually, with most tracks that have an intro, I always set the first cue at the beginning (MixedInKey also does this for you), another one 8 bars before the vocals, with an indicator where vocals start, then obviously where all the hooks are so that I know where to mix out. I also colour code all the above just so I always know what's what. Allows me to quickly and seamlessly pull off mixes. With Old Skool hip hop where I know the tracks in and out, I don't always need them, but helps to have those visual markers. #Dope video DJ TLM! Keep em coming!
@@Kayplaya Sorry, I always get my beats and bars mixed up. So yes, technically it's an 8 bar intro = 32 beats, so I split those up into 4 cue points, coz the vocals normally kick in after the 8th bar
Great Video as usual. I set cue points on every track I get. I love to set cue points to cut those long songs down. I know you can use beat jump but I'm still old school and like to set cues where I'd like to cut it. Only thing that sucks is when you hit the cue a bit off beat..but most of the audience doesn't notice anyways.
I put a cue at the beginning of the song one when the beat comes in one at the each hook and if I'm lucky and the track has sort of an instrumental break I put one there along with a loop point.
Dj tech and the future is great. my tone arm on my 1200 is not good, so when the phase product came out i was very happy. now i dont have to be worried about the sound of my DVS system sounding weird and my dirty needle affecting my performance . Also i had cue points on my real vinyl back in the day for mixing. on the records that had way too long intros. so cues points have been around for a while but now it is better. and neater lol
hello! i wanted to ask you a question. this is not a question from the video, but from a different video, so how do you know what beats go together? as in beat matching, should it be like the same beats or different beats? i wasn't sure. thank you so much for the videos! your the best DJ tutor online!
Depending on the fader, you might be able to find some instructional information online. I’ve never fixed one. Once the started to leak I replaced them
Mostly on the first count of the hook, but it depends on the length of the intro on the new song. If the hook and intro are both 8 bars it’s a no brainer. If one of the two has a different length you have to figure out what the best way would be to do the transition
@@djTLMtv thank you. I haven't really mastered the beats/bar counts as of yet. It was more of a feeling. I hear the hook and say well the artist does the hook twice so I would start it at the beginning of the second time he starts. Mostly done off of a feeling. Been watching you for some time now. Thank you for getting back with me so promptly.
Started DJing one year ago. Got my DDJ SB 2 and Serato DJ Pro. I got some nice mixes and had my first Live gig last Thursday. But I feel like I dont understand Music too much, any advice to get more educated on understanding music?
@@djTLMtv In general. How music is built up, the accordd, high hats bass of different kinds. It would improve a lot, if I knew how every song is made up, what elements and messages it takes
I get using cue points for getting to points of the track fast , but it seems like there was more a point of moving fast , isn't moving fast during a mix not always great a thing ? Isn't setting the the vibe ,enjoying the track then transitioning out to the next track smoothly a better way to go or moving fast ,playing banger after banger more the norm? This is something I struggle with alot

Im having trouble with crossfader bleed, can anyone tell me how to fix?

How do you set cue points that will stay unique to the specified crate?
When you set a cue point it is saved to the music file automatically
When do you typically begin a transition. During the beginning of the hook or during the middle of the hook?

In what way do you want to understand music? The structure?
