    Welcome to Samae-juku, an Edo period post town located in Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture. In this video, we will introduce the charm of Samae-juku, which is a combination of history and nature.

At the Jizo River, which flows through the center of Samae-juku, you can observe plum blossoms swaying in the clear stream. It is said that this beautiful aquatic plant was once prized as a hair ornament for samurai warriors.
    And there is another treasure in this Jizo River. Hariyo is designated as an endangered species. This small fish is carefully protected by local people as a symbol of the environment where it can only live in clear spring water.
    We will also introduce the legend of Yamato Takeru, which is related to the name of Samae. The story of how, on his way back from an expedition to eastern Japan, he encountered spring water here and was able to soothe his fatigue, which tells of the depth of the history of Samaei.
