  • October 11, 2015 - Battle of Sekigahara reenactment...
Sekigahara is a town at an ancient cross-roads in the mountains of central Japan. It is located in old Mino Province, in modern-day Gifu Prefecture.
During the Edo Period, Sekigahara-juku was the 58th station on the old Nakasendo highway. It was commemorated by the artist Hiroshige in the series of prints known as "The Sixty-nine Stations of the Nakasendō".
Because of its location as an ancient cross-roads, Sekigahara was the site of many battles, including the Battle of Sekigahara... in October 1600, the army of eastern Japan, under the command of Tokugawa Ieyasu, defeated the army of western Japan, putting an end to the Sengoku-jidai, or "Warring States Period". The battle is remembered as the beginning of a long period of peace in Japanese history, sometimes known as Pax Tokugawa.
Today, the famous battle is commemorated yearly with a festival that includes a costumed reenactment of the battle.
