Louie Bellson once said that he felt Krupa could sit on a stage with other name drummers, play the simplest drum fill, and still get a standing ovation. Drummers owe so much to Krupa.Without him, Buddy and Louie would have had a much more difficult rise to fame.Krupa brought the drummer from the back of the stage to the front of the stage.
After decades of trying to master this instrument, I come away with the one thing he had over everyone; Showmanship. His fills on this are WOW. And it didn't hurt that he was a movie star looking guy. But that show style was important. I remember playing a gig as a kid, and the owner yelling at me. 'Hey drummer! SMILE up there! You look depressed!" I wasn't depressed, I just think alot about what I'm playing. Only problem is my concentration look does not look good. Back then we didn't have You Tube to learn from. Thanks CD.
how strange!! i was only thinking of this yesterday and how long since i heard it!!! then you came through with it!! Fab to hear again. it was on the very first album i bought years ago and before i began to play myself!! thank you!!!!
The way gene described drumming man was that is was supposed to be played by jazz piano man earl faiths Hines Krupa took that melody and turned it into one of his signature charts the crowd response after those blazing single stroke rolls at the end is the response our gene always received boom
A truly beautiful sound from those Slingerland tubs…and a great band to boot!😎
A beautiful rendition of a swing classic, really gets your foot moving to the beat…This song plus “Drum Boogie” is what made Gene so popular.
Great music from a truly great era in America!
Oh man, this is gold, thank you
Great. Very exciting to hear this chart performed live. Super!
