I have this complete concert on DVD. Its from the Boston area and Buddy has a lot of friends and colleagues in the audience, among them the late Armand Zildjian. Buddy is playful and joking with the audience through the whole show and is in frightening form. The kit he plays here is of course the 40s Slingerland Radio King kit that was restored and given to him in 1983. The snare was presented to him at the hospital following his quadruple bypass. He used a 26" bass and had actually requested a 28" right before his death!

@Haklulu Lol your talking out of your ass. Eloy Casagrande is a beast on the drums but you know what he said he has a very hard time trying to play? He said he can't play jazz, it's very hard for him to keep a easy groove, so you see not every metal core drummer can play fills easily like this. It is quite baffling how musical, virtuosic, and prodigious he was on every other instrument of the drum set-hi hat, snare, bass drum, ride, and crashes-way beyond anyone else. Yet he never made a statement with that Swish Knocker.
The one he played in Berlin is my favourite solo of him. I like him and he is great but there does not exist something as a best drummer. With fast precise single strokes he is unmatched of course. But most of his solos are quite similar and he sounds a bit mechanical to me. His solos are fast but rhythmically I prefer people like Carlos Vega, Papa Joe Jones, Trilok Gurtu and even Louie Bellson.

I'm a drummer and some of the stuff Buddy does (some) are some basic phrasing, and sticking patters, BUT!! He does said thing a tempo's or speed that's not human. IE: I've come across some of Ted Reed stuff, (book) where Ted lol has some phrases charted out and then you look at the metronome setting lmAO ...It's like WHO can play it at that speed??!! OH YEAH! BUDDY!! I mean seriously, his brain and hands can go 5 times faster than most top tier drummers who put in their 10k + + + + hours. Peace
He never did learn to put that China crash to good use.
Yes Nelson, hahaha, very true!
It is quite baffling how musical, virtuosic, and prodigious he was on every other instrument of the drum set-hi hat, snare, bass drum, ride, and crashes-way beyond anyone else. Yet he never made a statement with that Swish Knocker.
Yes he did. Used it very sparsely in just the right places.
The King .. period.
He must be an alien... This just isn't human
True that ! I know alot of drummer from estepario to thomas lang to Jojo mayer. I know so many much famous drummers but i never seen someone how can play like buddy!!!
@@dietersteinhardt2553 some have come close but no one is an equal.
