Having worked at Walmart as an unloader, I was flabbergasted to see the amount of recently expired deli items (pizzas, subs, salads, etc.) that was thrown into the trash compactor. Not to mention produce...

It's bad mostly at every grocery store. Actually all of them come to think of it. There is a movie called Just Eat It: food waste. Type that up on youtube here in the search. You can watch the movie for free. I watched it. It's basically about this couple that have to eat food that is about to expire. They have to also eat food that is not perfect. For instance, it may have a bruise on it. Basically they aren't really allowed to buy fresh items. They go dumpster diving. It's quite interesting of all the stuff they find. Go watch it though. It's a really good movie.

Visit food pantries and become disgusted. Fruits and vegetables that are obviously spoiled and can't be salvaged are on display some with visible mold. Packages of frozen beef that are expired have turned color. Some are a shimmering green and yellow. Trader Joe's bottled carrot juice that's 3 days past expiration date is still available. I drank some and got sick. Can you imagine picking up a bag of salad greens to find half of it is slimy or you open the bag and it stinks so bad that you have to throw it out? Food pantries must be proud to pass this crap out.

In the C-Town supermarket in my area, I found boxes of chicken bullion cubes, expired by 3 months!
They had them on sale 2/$5.00. I showed the manager, he said "ok, I'll take care of it."
I come back 2 days later, this SOB, took alcohol wipes and rubbed the expiration date off of every box!😵‍💫🤢🤮

Click Bait.... the only food in the USA that has a "Expiration Date" is baby formula and is mandated by Federal Law. Every thing else has a "Best Sold or Used BY" date or a "Sell By" date. Food does not know that it is suppose to go bad on a certain date

Wasting Food Pisses me off almost more than anything...I order something at Domino's and they make it wrong and ask for it back just to throw it in the garbage... it just shows how much so much of the us takes things for granted... coming up pretty damn poor in NYC and being the son of two immigrants who also came up poor is no doubt where much of my mentality comes from but I wouldn't have it any other way..the shit is really disgusting how people waste food in the US and really all First World Countries... especially if an animal died so we aint going hungry...I don't even like Pizza Hut but I ordered something from them one time and the order was completely wrong but i told the lady "nvm cuz i know u guys are just going throw it away" and she said "no we never do that we save it and donate it" and that earned them so much respect from me I actually like they're food more than I did before...videos like these give me some faith that at least something is being done but it needs to be more

Yeah I am the same way about wasting food. Makes me angry. I actually will just eat the food if it's wrong. It's happened to me before. I said to myself if they take it back, they'll just throw it out. I just deal with it. For that pizza though, if you take it out of the store completely and open it out of sight, they have to throw it away. You could have easily tampered with it. Not saying you would, but that's just the protocol they have. Some people are mean like that. But it's bad mostly at every grocery store. Actually all of them come to think of it. @@boohere2 nah man u got me wrong I don't leave the store...I open it right in front of them and most of the time I ask them to open it for me just so they'll be no excuse to throw it away..if I left the store and then came back after who knows how long then Yea I do understand that..I mean I understand if I touch it but it's not enough of a reason to throw it away and when I worked at Taco Bell I'd just keep it for myself but when u have a problem and they ask for it back i ask them specifically "are u going to throw it away cuz I'll just keep it if that's what u going to do" very rarely my ordered is so fucked I begrudgingly give it back after attempting to convince not to trash it and at least take it home themselves, but my order has to be pretty fucked for me to do that...very very rarely I've even changed their outlook, the guy thought I was just complaining to get them to make me another order hoping they'd let me keep the first one but after a few min he said "nvm go ahead and keep cuz you're right its pretty ridiculous" verbatim that's what he said..sorry to yap but I do understand certain protocols they have in place and why they have em in the first place but the times I'm talking about is mainly when those protocols haven't even been broken but they trash the food anyway and then their attitude is so "I don't give a damn" it really irks me..u got billions starving or having very little and we over here throwing food away cuz someone touched the tray it's in..WTF???!!!??

Corporations give bonuses to store managers who keep waste to a minimum, which incentivizes store managers to do immoral things, such as changing the dates on expired food. Then when asked, corporations say: "Our policy is that all of our stores adhere to expiry dates." In other words, they wash their hands of all responsibility, even though they deserve a large part of the blame. They should also be keeping a close watch on what their store mangers are doing, but they don't.

I worked for a Major retailer years ago if any dairy products were past date milk was to be poured down the drain yogurt had to be emptied from containers it was a California law. I believe the dairy farmers were subsidized by the state as well. There’s no profit to speak of in milk.

My local supermarket has several refrigerated units near the checkout lanes holding various types of prepared foods that would expire in a couple of days. The foods are discounted 30-70% off. I used to buy salad entree bowls until it finally occurred to me that I would get pains in my stomach after eating them.

When employees stock shelves, they don't always pull the products to the front, nor do they need to. Only maybe every second time or third time do they need to pull the old products to the front (it depends on how long it takes until the product expires). These companies expect their employees to do more than they are capable of doing, so employees have to cut corners in order to get their jobs done in the allotted time. Trust me, most people in upper management have unrealistic expectations of what their staff are capable of doing in a given time frame.
Two employees at a 7-Eleven, and it's summer time, and there is a non-stop lineup of people buying Slurpees, and the staff are supposed to keep the coolers stocked, and keep hotdogs on the grill (and document everything they put on and when) and keep the coffee fresh, and "face" (pull all the products forward to the front of the shelves) every 5 minutes. It's just not possible!

Walmart and a few other stores will take food that is supposed to frozen or refrigerated and will put it back if it's room temperature instead of disposing it.

If food pantries give away expired donated food, including canned goods, the food pantry can be held liable. Smart food pantries keep a supply of alcohol and nail polish remover, to clean the dates off cans.
