- I have the Brother cs6000i machine, but Im sure its the same for many other models of Brother sewing machine. Hope this helps anyone that is wondering how to use it! Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for this! My instruction manual mockingly states, "Creating a buttonhole is a simple process...". After 3 failed attempts and throwing that manual across the room, your video is priceless. Thanks again. 🙂
This video saved me. I couldn't have done a button hole without this video!
You are my hero. I have a Brother machine, went thru the manual and could not get it to work. I watched you and copied you and it worked the very first time. You are AWESOME!
Here to say this was quite helpful, thank you for the layman’s terms.
But also want to say that you have a very soothing voice
You are literally a godsend!!! I have been sewing for about a year and have been avoiding buttonholes this entire time 😅 thank you 🎉
Wow! I am 51, never used a sewing machine in my life and was just gifted a Brother CS7205. No in person classes are available anywhere in my area, not much for my machine on youtube, or Skillshare so I am taking all these short, very informative pieces to help me on this journey. Teaching myself is so overwhelming. Thank you so much for your share on this.
That's awesome that you're getting started!! Best wishes with your new sewing journey!!
UA-cam is absolutely my go to for everything sewing! I have learned so much on here! Happy sewing!
If you imagine yourself sucking at first, and having a good laugh, then slowly getting better over time, it can make it less overwhelming, When we just imagine where we want to go, but don't take time to imaging the challenging parts of the journey, facing those challenges can be overwhelming because we only imagined the finished result. Imaging the journey with humor and kindness so you have realistic expectations and a lot of fun F-ing up... and get your fabric from the goodwill (Monday is the cheapest day) or other thrift stores until your skills are better.
I have to say this is the only video that makes sure you understand that the pull down lever must be " BEHIND " the small nub on the buttonhole attachment. YOU ARE AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really.. I have watched many videos and no one told that the nob must be behind.. I dont know the names..
@@maryjosealphons I know I watched maybe 10 or so videos and never did anyone explain it as wonderfully as Jessica. Jessica's video has helped so many sewers new and old a like. Jessica is AWESOME!
@@susanlong6518 yes. I am happy that i found this video.. I got my new machine today and i was so excited to sew something.. I am a beginner.. I have to learn a lot of thing's . I hope all these videos will help . 😀
@@maryjosealphons Get ready to have so much fun frustration, because when you learn the tricks to sewing it is going to be all you want to do. If I can ever help just give a poke.
@@susanlong6518 thank you 🙂
Thank you. I’m an experienced sewing person but never used this. Now I can.
Best tutorial ever! I’ve been sewing since 2014 and just successfully did my first button hole, Thank you.
I was always unsure of where to line up the fabric/button placement with the attachment - bottom or top of button. Thanks to your pencil marking, and my photographic memory, I will always remember. 🎉
Thank you for the demonstration, I was about pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I kept getting error. you got it spot on so now I know what to do. thank you so very much. I appreciate it.
Oh my goodness. In highschool I hated doing button holes!! This tutorial was so helpful! Thank you
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I was dreading having to sew buttonholes on the dresses I made for my nieces, but your tutorial made it so easy!
Thank you! I know this video is a couple years old now but this was SO helpful!!! I never used the button hole on my new brother before and was intimidated for the longest time and you made this so easy
Thank you for being thorough! I was lost for a second from someone else’s video.
Excellent video! I think I have the nerve to try it now. Very well explained. Thank you!
I watched so many videos and yours is the only one that made any sense. Thank you!
Haha! That's why I made this video! Have never gotten around to making videos for the rest of the attachments, but this one was important I think.
Thank you! I have a Brother 2000 but my manual is long gone. Your tutorial helped immensely.
I was shown how to do button holes a few years ago, but I've always avoided buttons... 😂 Well of course I forgot how... Thank you so much for the quick, simple and easy to understand directions!! Christmas presents will be finished today after all!! 🤣
Thank you. Had this machine for like a year and juat saw button hole making like a trouble I did not want. Ran into this video and tried it. It's super easy, I wonder what I was thinking all along
Thank you I am making my first button up shirt now I know how to make the button holes. Before watching this video I had no clue so I am grateful thank you.
I have had my Brother for about 4 years and never figured out how to make a button hole. Mind you, I never needed to. Now I have a new way to make closures rather than just ribbon all the time. Thanks so much! You are awesome to show us this, I never would have thought to even ask!
I'm a guy in my 40s and the last time I used a sewing machine was in high school... helped one of the girls thread it and she sewed my thumb & forefinger together. My work pants had the metal clip thing on & it broke. Using this video, I was able to make a buttonhole that looks absolutely amazing and should work much better than the metal closer thingie. (And yes, that's the computer guy term for that. ;-) ) Thank you so much for making this video. =)
Right on!!! Yay !
THANK YOU!!!! Now i know how to actually use it!
Thank you!! Finally found the button hole lever!
OK, so the part about the lever... You are a genius! I have been making my buttonholes manually because it was simply impossible to figure it out until I viewed your video. My machine is a model LX3850 and I just want to add to anyone using that model that the lever is metal, has to be pulled down and then PUSHED away from you. If not pushed, it makes a huge ball of thread, lol. Also, if anyone needs small balls of thread in various colours, I have a few :). Again, thank you so much for stressing the lever part in your video. You rock!
Oohhhhhhhhh thanks for this!!! I was getting so frustrated at the ball of thread 😤
Great video. First time the process actually made sense.
Thank you Jessica, Where would we be without you? Something so simple and yet ive been terrified to try this in case I upset the machine workings and then perhaps couldn't reset it. Ill be more confident now to try this.
Woohoo! Yes! Try it, the machine wont let you mess it up. Lol
OMG this is the first video I have watched that actually helped me make a button hole every other one I watched I failed!! No one said to make sure that lever was BEHIND the plastic notch! So thank you so much I have been trying this for hours!! Lolol yay finally someone who helped!! Your an angel!💜💜💜💜
Yay!!! Im so happy it helped!
Lost my User Guide in a move - this was perfect! Forgot about lowering the handle on the side! Thanks!
Thanks. It’s been ages since I made buttonholes. It was good to watch a video before trying it myself.
I’ve had my machine for almost 10 years and have never made a buttonhole on it. Thanks!
Omg!!! 😂😂😂thank you!!! 😂😂😂had this god damn machine for years and thanks to you only just learnt!!! I’m such a numpty 🎉
Thanks so much for this! I saw your beautiful junk journals with the canvas wraps with button closures and was blown away. Your generosity and willingness to share is so very appreciated. I adore your work and personal style.
Aaawh, thank you so much for your kind words. Really made me smile. :)
Thanks for a great tutorial!! i tried to do the button hole on my Brother reading the user's mannual and still it didnt work. I made it in sec after your video! I appreciate your work and how well you explained and shoot everything!
Girl thank you so much 💕. First time getting it right in a year.
SO helpful, I loved that you kept the camera in one place and talked through it all. Thank you so much ❤️
Good grief !!! You. Are. Awesome. I kept getting an error message because I didn’t know about the pull down lever 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤩
Thank you so much for your detailed tutorial, I am so excited to add this to my sewing skills and do buttons now! You ROCK, lady!
Thank you so much for uploading the video. It helped me to do the buttonhole xx
LOVED this tutorial, Jessica - Very clear and concise instructions. I have used my buttonhole attachment, but these instructions seemed to simplify the process. Thank you!
You make this look easy.i have always been afraid to try it.
Thabks so much for sharing this, I just did my first buttonholes!
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR TIME DEMONSTRATING THIS. IT WAS AWESOME. THANK YOU
Thanks for the video! A seam ripper can also be supper helpful when cutting open the buttonhole!
Thank you for this tutorial!! I'm a beginner and this was helpful and super easy to follow.
Superb teacher! Very thorough, smooth and clear voice!
This was awesome! Thank you! My mom sewed for ever, made tons of stuff & as far as I know, never knew how to do this! lol Lots of snaps & hook & eye closures! Lol ty!!
Thank you for doing that video. I have always been afraid to try it. You have inspired me.
I was sort of afraid to use it too, but it just want let you mess up. I'm going to try and go through the other attachments that came with that machine too. I mean, why not right?
Hahaha I tried to do it today and messed up the machine. I will try again tomorrow lol
Thank you Jessica for the tutorial on the button holes. I'm making my first granddaughter a jumper that has two button holes and it intimidated sooooo BAD!!!! Your tutorial was VERY EASY to follow and wah la....i made my first button hole. I'm so tickled. Thanks again. 😁👗

I had the same machine and you helped me a ton!

I will be subscribing for sure. Blessings 🙌
Thank you so much for this. Amazingly helpful. You rock.
Is it possible to have the button hole maker and the button applying option on a same platform machine? Or they always come separate?
Not sure I understand ypur question...
Thank you for this video, Jessica! I so needed it. lol
Thanks for sharing this. 👍
Awesome...thanks for taking the time to show us💕💕
I wish people would make a long story short in these videos
Thank you! I have watched other videos without any success figuring out how to use this successfully until I watched yours. You made it so easy to figure out.
I ain't know that the presser foot lever can be raised higher by pushing it up more !!!! Great tip!!!
Awesome instructions! I'm going to have to try it!
tutorial starts at 2:09
I know this is an older vid, BUT I have just gotten the Bro. XR9550 Pretty much the same as yours but with more UN-needed stitches lol. I keep getting the dreaded rats nest bobbin, What tension level should I be on?
I usually have mine set to between 3 and 4 when I stitch fabric. It sounds more like the bobbin is upside down ? 🤔
@@twosilveroranges OH OK I will for sure check both.. Thank you for responding.. God bless, and Happy new year.
Thank you for this video! I could not remember how to use mine--lol Now to do some material JJ's. So excited! Robin J
This was super helpful!!
Thank you so much....I seem to have lost my directions and kept getting the error message. Buttonholes, here I come. LOL
That was SO helpful!! One of those things I would have never bothered to learn and now thanks to you...I will try it!! Thank you a "hole" bunch! -Tonya
Thank you!
This was so useful! Thank you for sharing💚💚
Great! Really helped. Thanks
tHANK YOU! i HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED HOW TO DO THIS! tfs! XO
Its been forever since I have sewed a button hole. Or should I say butt ton? LOL Still it is good to hear your voice even though I don't have the same machine as you or I don't know where I put my attachment... I know ir's hard to believe... I will be usind the eyelet, hair tie, and a button for now. Always good to know... :)
Mine keeps knotting on the back of the fabric when it's starts the horizontal part of the buttonhole? Any advice?
Hmm. I know this will sound obvious, but it sounds like a tension issue. Have you tried increasing it?
Just thought about this again.... does your bobbin thread match the upper thread? If they're different weights that can cause problems that look like tension also.
I'm sorry you're having trouble. I wish you could send a video reply here.
very nice explain thank u
So very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for the share. I know some people are so fearful to try this! Easy peasy right! ?
Is there any way to make the buttonhole wider? it’s the right length, just not wide enough
There are different templates for buttonholes included with that machine, so you can pick the shape you need.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
What tension number do you have this set on?
I usually leave that machine set to about 4.5
Is adjusting tension for buttonhole the same as adjusting tension for straight stitching? I followed your instructions and it worked and made a buttonhole but it was rather loose and thready... Anyone with any advice?
Yes, you're right... adjust your tension as you would for any other stitching. Every machine is different, so I would suggest testing on scrap and it should help you figure it out.
Hey there everybody :) I recently just got my brother sewing machine and am trying to make buttonholes, obviously. Im running into a problem where the setup is all correct but when I go to sew it, the thread gets bunched up and jammed. Does anybody have any advice for this problem?
Awww I nearly gave up thanks
Thank you ♥️
Thank you
Hi I did everything you said, but when I try and sew it says e7 every time plz help
how do you take it out?
It would help if you showed the tension, stitch width, and length for beginners.
The width and length are automatic once you set up the attachment for the button you are using. Tension is a whole other subject.
I am having trouble with this feature...have watched the video and still can’t make a button hole..please someone help me.
What part are you having trouble with?
Ok Im having problems with the stitches need some help have a brother
i have a problem, i pulled my lever all the way down but its still giving me the error message ☹️ please help
Did you try turning the machine off and back on to reset it?
@@twosilveroranges yeah ! i did
You may be a very good teacher but you talk more than is needed to explain the task.
