I’m two weeks PP and had two small tears, but good lord- going to the bathroom STUNG so bad! I learned a tip that made it 100x easier though! While on the toilet, scoot your butt as far back on the seat as you can. Then lean forward over the bowl until you’re doubled over with your hands on the floor (or on a stool) this angles your pelvis to be level with the floor so that urine goes straight down into the bowl instead of coming into contact with the lacerations. It made such a difference for me!!

At my hospital in Germany we offer a stool softener the next day after the birth, regardless of tear or not, vaginal or C-section birth. Found the practice very useful after giving birth myself too ☺️

    • @TheDoctorsBjorkman

Do they stay in the hospital for longer after birth in Germany too? Here in The Netherlands you get sent home 4-6 hours after the birth.. no matter the time of day.

    • @kristina282k
      @kristina282k 2 роки тому +2

@@kellyv4595 normally 24-72h for a vaginal birth and 48-96h for a C-section, depending on the hospital and patient. You can have an „ambulant“ delivery where you go home after less than 24h, but this is generally allowed for the 2nd and more birth and if the previous deliveries went without complications. But you guys in the Netherlands have even better midwife care than we do here in Germany (which is already amazing)

@@kristina282k Germany sounds similar to Canada. I was told they give you a laxative the next day and for vaginal births it's 24-36 hours and c-section it's 48-72 hours.

I wish you would have mentioned how long a tear can take to fully heal. I was under the impression that healing would take about 6 weeks, but at 6 weeks I tried to be intimate with my partner and it literally felt like a knife. I am now almost 8 weeks and I still don't feel like its completely healed even though the stitches are gone. After discussions with other moms, it seems pretty common that healing can take months and that isn't really discussed.

For anyone out there that has a 3rd degree tear that isn't healing after 2 months. My doctor put me on estradiol, he said to use a pea size amount in the morning and at night in the areas that needed healing. The cream is supposed to increase blood flow to the area to help it heal. I remember it was night and day after I started using the cream. I'd say talk to your doctor about estradiol (estrogen cream) if your lacerations aren't healing.

I would really like to see a video (and maybe your brand is more conservative than this) on what to expect in terms of what your vulva / vagina should look like after childbirth / episiotomy/ tearing. For those of us who looked, it can be pretty horrifying and hard to know what is normal and what is not and how much healing to expect. There is very little info about this on the internet so it’s really hard to find good info (there’s lots of Reddit threads and Colleen ballingers description of her experience), and OBs tend to be very blasé with it because they’re used to seeing it all the time. Would be nice to get some expert info about what is normal for people to expect.

My first birth I had a 2nd degree tear, it was all good until I had to go #1 because it just stung so bad for the first couple days! So thank you! Your idea about using the peri bottle while you're actually going pee made me think- hey the walk in shower is right next to the toilet so why not? Also, I personally never bothered with the throw away undies- just too many steps involved. I chose the sexy depends all the way lol, because I didn't always need an ice pad and the depends are just ready to go. Also with those stool softeners, wearing the depends comes in handy if you can guess what I mean :)

This is random...but maybe you'll see this and comment, I have a question!...that dont worry I will be asking my OB tomorrow as well. You probably wont see this...but I just tested positive for gestational diabetes @26 weeks, but I also was told my baby is below the 10th percentile in growth. So I have a tiny baby or so I was told...now I am just confused...are these correlated? I thought babies were normally larger when you have this not the other way around. I personally have only gained about 14 pounds the whole pregnancy so far...which I'm told is fine. I'm just wondering if false positives are common or if my babies small size has any correlation to the gestational diabetes.

I would worry about the bidet being too hard.
It should be as hard as a faucet on a medium to light pressure.
I’ve used a bidet once and felt like it was cleaning my soul out

@@Hamenjy my bidet has a really gentle setting where it’s almost like turning on the sink lightly and it has cold warm and hot. I can also change position of nozzle it’s a really nice one.

The nice part about the peri bottle is that you can control the pressure and adjust immediately to where you need it or stop if needed. I just had my first baby in January!

A frozen diaper wetted with water stays cold longer than the ice packs. ;)

Why is it that each body part gets the scientific name except “bottom?” Also, it’d be great to hear about any reusable alternative products that are available to sub for the disposable things.

I think because she means bottom of the body. So instead of listing off all of the stuff, it’s easier to just say bottom.

I suppose you could use an actual reusable ice pack wrapped in cloth instead of those freda mom things. Just have to wait on it to get cold again. And there’s also cloth reusable pads, and underwear but judging by how they’re talking you’d need a lot of overnights for recovery so unless you intend on using them long term might not be a good alternative. I haven’t had my baby yet so take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

Ladies load yourself up with tons and tons of water. I promise you will not tear. I had a very quick unassisted birth and home and I had zero tears. I drank about 500ml of my red raspberry leaf tea infusion and 3 liters of water a day since the first trimester. I wouldn't drink the tea in the first if I wasn't using it before getting pregnant but since I drink that tea everyday I didn't stop.
