I've spent a decade on UA-cam, 6 as a content creator and the last 4+ working with brands like BMW & LEGO with this UA-cam SEO. I can tell you that real businesses and companies are beginning to understand the importance of UA-cam but do lack the knowledge of how to check if something is 'legit' or not. Roth 100% bought followers, likely as you mentioned... an ego thing or to stand out to the 'powers that be' in our industry. It's almost as hilarious as it is sad.
Honestly SEO goes over my head, consistency is the best approach that I’ve found but I can see why idiots fall for the buying of subs. People are looking for quick wins but it kills your channel so fast. The second they stop buying their makeup views the cease to exist.
Companies in this space need to wake up because they wasting so much money on people giving them nothing in return

I honestly find most card UA-camrs to be very cringe, there are very few i watch and/or take seriously
I've heard a TON of content creators on UA-cam for years say that the majority of people that watch their videos do not subscribe.
Yup, it’s like that for most niches on YT which is why a small sub to view ratio of like 1% isn’t that insane, especially for more viral type content like vlogs

Lets be honest the cap for most channels with sports cards is 10k. Not to many people in the hobby. Especially gaining over 100 subs in a week is suspect. If your at 100k subs you should be pulling 30k views a video
Yup, I agree. Many sub counts are inflated from the boom though. A lot of people have left and it’s hurting channels now.
I bought a couple subs today. 1 ham and 1 turkey/bacon.
I lied when I said I haven’t bought dubs. I’ve definitely eaten way too many meatball sandwiches in my life to count

In this day and age I'm not surprised. Some of these influencers will do anything to pump themselves let alone certain products.

ol sports card daddy was the failed ‘personal finance dad’. then he begged geoff wilson to have him for an interview so he could gain popularity. the interview was horrible n weird.
theres a little core of hobby buddies. and theyre all sketchy and sleezy. anything to get attention.

Of course Desperate Dustin the Sports Card Poser didn't give credit, he is only about promoting himself. He only regurgitates and recycles second hand information, never offering anything original.
I have told him this before but I think doing daily content really hurts his ability to add original thought speech to a lot of talking points.

Gamble Gamble early on tried to do a video with Roth band he brushed him off and he and others suggested early on that Roth has been buying subs. What abour Geoff? Keane is a hustler. That kid is on WhatNot almost every day selling hundreds and hundreds of cards.
It wouldn’t surprise me with Geoff. Need to do more research but I think his is more high quality content that went viral a few times and gained subs that way. Entirely possible and probably plausible that they bough some so need to do more research.
@@DanTheCardMan2 Geoff has a whopping 324,000 subs and that increased quickly and engagement is low and views are about that of Roth and in some cases more with more than 1/3rd less subscribers than Goof. #HankyPanky.
Stryker Breaks bought 50k subs and nobody said anything, actually crazy. Even Sports Card radio scared to shake that tree for some reason

Shorts massively skew channel subs vs. long form views as you pointed out later on in the video. I think a lot of people are trying to make short term ego gains via shorts over making decent long form content. TikTok generation at work.
Yep, exactly. They don’t convert to long form and these guys don’t get it. Happy to see a big sub number but then get confused why they stop getting pushed by the algo
I am doing my channel for the LOVE of it. Hard work is more rewarding to me.
Consistency is key. As long as you have fun that’s all that matters

Who TF cares about this stuff? I guess only emotional content creators that are struggling or flat do. UA-cam makes a lot of money , I don’t care at all if someone is able to outsmart them and get some of that money.
People care as it gives context to YT and sponsorships etc. if you listened closely you’ll know it doesn’t outsmart anyone and no money is made from it long term

Very fair! I still think we have a lot of people holding onto cards they significantly overpaid for and they’re holding out. We haven’t seen the real offload yet. I’m ready though cause there’s heaps of pc crap I wanna buy lol

Yup, like I said, guys basically do it and then get stuck having to keep repeating it because YT nukes it pretty quickly. Subs stop clicking because they aren’t real and then YT stops recommending

I think we need to be careful when we say "buying subs". Buying subs is illegal, and youtube will terminate your channel, so I don't think anyone is buying subs. What I think is happening is that they are using the promotion feature that is within youtube to promote their videos in youtube studio. If so, there is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting your brand. These new subscribers subscribed because they must of enjoyed their content, and it's a good way to promote your channel under the youtube guidelines.
No difference than a company promoting their brands, products, movies, etc... we are surrounded by advertisements, we live in a world of advertisements, and yet the sports card community seems to have a problem when one of them promotes its brand.
I recommend sticking to what you do best and getting away from this toxic jealously that will only negatively impact all sports card channels, because real collectors which you seem to praise don't give a crap a out it.

Hey mate, if you dig a bit deeper into the YT Algorithm and how the Analytics work with the promotion feature, you will understand that the growth he obtained is odd.
Toxic jealousy is a far cry from the truth but each to their own. This flows through to "Real collectors" too which is why I talked about it.
@DanTheCardMan2 Thank you for your reply. The growth in subscribers is what you would expect when you run a youtube promotion for a particular time frame, which would also explain the odd growth.
@@odn1 From the hours I have researched, those numbers obtained seem absolutely out of the realm of possibility. I will investigate further though. I might even experiment and run my own promotion campaign to see what happens
@DanTheCardMan2 yes, excellent idea. I know for a fact that one can gain thousands of subscribers when running a promotion targeting all countries for, let's say, a few hundreds of dollars.
IMO, an excellent way to legally promote your brand on the youtube platform.

Buying subs, to me, feels like cheating at golf when you are playing by yourself lol...like why do it other than to stroke your own ego?

Can someone tell me the process of actually how someone would buy subs and views. How is that even done, need a walk thru on that process to understand
There are 100s of websites. They are basically bot farms in certain parts of the world where you go on and pick how many subs and views you want
I called a watch dealer out on bought subs, views, and comments. Made a Reddit post on a sub the guy and his associates read daily. He had 475k views on average per video within 24 hours of release. Comments would reach around 2500. They gained 1k subs a week for a year consistently.
After my post, his views dropped to 50k and less in 24 hours. He stopped releasing videos weekly for 3 months after the post. I posted the data, so people, including him, knew he was caught. Comments went to around 200 at most, and the majority of them were not favorable. His subcount dropped to 35 a week on top of it. He would go days without a single view of his long and short form. The algorithm took him off the suggested for long and short autoplay lists that quickly.
He bought comments for giveaways to drown the callout comments from being seen. So, another post was made, and they turned on the fake Instagram comments. But they were the fake investment ones. They were deleted within 10 minutes of my post, and at least 75% of the comments for their last 10 posts went away. There is no way someone with 1500 followers gets 20k likes and 350 comments. The watch market is almost dead. It dropped faster than cards, and almost every model is at retail or below.
Which channel was it? I'm a big viewer (critic) of watch channels - Roman Sheriff, 4P, old TPG (pre-arrest), Tim Write, Archie, WN....

One37pm (now known as ballplayers) I feel like also Bought subs. They have nearly 500k subscribers but the podcast for sports cards was only getting 2k views

I would say 12-18 months ago. Quite confident he did it for IG
I had a youtube channel that was slowly growing but growing nevertheless. I started live streaming some stuff that was kinda related to my content but also wasnt. Picked up a lot of new subs and all of a sudden ppl stopped watching my actual vids. I think if I do a youtube channel again, I would never live stream again.
I think you just need to be careful how far you diverge from your actual niche. I.e. it needs to be a consistent theme across all your content but like I said in the video, shorts audience is very different to long form
I’ve watched roth a lot cause I enjoy card show content he says the main reason he does social media is to promote the cards he has/picks up at shows. Everything else is like secondary to him so idk if I agree with ur analysis of hunting for sponsors but it’s pretty fishy how he got that many subs for sure

Stryker breaks diffenly bought subs look at his watch time and views went from 50 to over 100k makes no sense in less than a month

It is sad when even some of the small channels like less than 2k spike to 11+k but still get a hundred or two views a video. there was someone I really enjoyed watching her content but after that. Most of my subs are from short videos and at least 90% don't subscribe according to my analytics. I have only recently heard of buying subs, got accused of it, lol. Know nothing about it
