Please DON'T FORGET to let me know your ideas and to *thumbs up* your favourites!!! 👍👍 I'm going to work my butt off to support the cause that matters most to you, so please share the cause(s) you care about and vote!! 👍
I'm not too sure how much of this journey I'll share, to be honest. It probably just depends on how into it everyone is as I know it's not everyone's thing and I just want to share what's most valuable for you and will help the most. I'm happy either way and will be working on this either way, but if you think you'd be into seeing a little of the journey to overcoming 100 miles then it really helps to know if you'd be into a couple more episodes 🤍
Appreciate you! Keep building that self-belief! One brick at a time 🙏

I would gobble up any ultra running content you want to put out!! Your 24 hours of running and your first ultra marathon videos are my favourite videos of yours!! I'm running my first marathon this year, and I've been running for ten years, but I just always had such limiting beliefs until now. Also, I was chronically underfueling!!

Ah wow Natacha, this sounds so exciting and you were so strong getting through the 100 miles almost on your own! You’ve got this 🤗🙏! I never saw myself as a runner growing up but with the help of an amazing physio friend and watching a lot of inspirational UA-cam content like your’s over the years, I managed to make it to a multistage trail event in Croatia last year called tribe run for love and loved it so much. The whole event is fundraising to stop modern slavery with their charity called the tribe freedom foundation.

I am a woman trail runner and one health condition that has really effected my ability to break into the ultra space is Endometriosis. I would love it if you could support the Endometriosis Foundation to help research and find better treatments (maybe even a cure). Anywhere from 3-10% of women have Endo, but because it is almost exclusively a woman's "disorder" there is not nearly enough research into it. Thank you Natacha 💛

Feeling uncomfortable with situations so simple like trying to eat a bowl of porridge and not walking/running for hours every day. Dementia research!!! From the age of 10-22 I had to watch my grandad’s struggle with severe Alzheimer’s and seeing someone you really love forget everything and be so disoriented is so heartbreaking. I truly believe if more money was put into dementia research we could have a cure very soon- there’s been promising studies and projects in recent years! Natacha you have inspired me to get into running and I hope to run a half marathon soon and eventually the London marathon- where I’ll be raising money for dementia research! ❤ best of luck for it, you’re gonna smash it!!! 🎉

I would argue funding for lesser known dementia or dementia that are less common in the general population are much more in need of funding, such as fronto-temporal dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies.

I have CPTSD, so mental health support/charities would be incredible too. but I always raise money for Momma and Alzheimers.
I, personally, have fibromyalgia, and am determined to live my best possible life. @Natacha Océane I posted that, then saw you got injured! It was interesting to watch the rehab and analysis! You're going to kill this. I got into ultras after I turned 40, and decided I wanted to accomplish something incredible that I could look back on with pride. I figured it would be a one and done, but the community, the atmosphere... it's honestly the best, most friendly running/ races/ runners I've ever been involved with, and I want to do it as long as I can. I consider ultras the great equalizer... NO ONE is guaranteed a finish, much less a win. I've got the Jay Peak 50k in the fall. I tried it once and dropped at 22 miles due to the cutoff. It's up and down a mountain 3 times on brutal terrain. Best wishes to anyone thinking to try this, it's wonderful, and doesn't have to take over your life. Can't WAIT for your upcoming videos!

Welcome to Sydney! Hope you guys are having an awesome time here! In terms of charity suggestions.. my dad was diagnosed with ALS last year… from someone who’s always been strong and healthy, to not being able to walk or move around in just 1 yr was heartbreaking to watch. In the past year, I’ve done tons of research on the disease, and I fully appreciate what a difficult problem it is to solve. There are clinical trials and MND clinics here in Sydney and worldwide, that not only research the disease but also provide care at low costs.. I’m soo grateful they exist coz othetwise this is an expensive disease to manage. So yes, anything we can do to help would be amazing

    • @KatAndTheMat
      @KatAndTheMat Рік тому +5

I second this!!! My dad had ALS for 10 years and passed away Jan 2022. It's a devastating illness; he seemed completely healthy and was an avid runner and biker before he started to get symptoms. The ALS Association here in the States did so much in helping our family and providing us with resources during that journey as he slowly and completely lost the ability to move/breathe/eat on his own. They also conduct research into finding possible cures or medications that can slow down the illness and reduce the symptoms. Definitely a great organization and an amazing cause that could help a lot of people!

I came to comment the same suggestion! My dad had ALS for 2 years and passed away in May 2017. Like you mentioned, this disease is extremely costly to have. Additionally, there are few medications for ALS, which only extend the life of an ALS patient by a few months at best. More research needs to be done as there is no known cause and no treatment that actually saves the lives of ALS patients: the disease is 100% terminal. I have worked with the ALS Association in the past to raise money. They donate to research as well as families who need help with expenses. I definitely recommend working with the ALS Association!!!

A few basic tips: ultramarathoning on trails with hills will have a lot of hiking. Plan to practice shifting between hiking and jogging. Long ultras are an eating contest. Going 100 miles with hills will take about 10,000-12,000 kcal. You'll need to eat at least 6-8,000 kcals during the event. It's HARD. Find out what you like, what you can eat after 10 hours of running/hiking. You'll need to force things down. It's all about problem solving. Protect your feet, with body glide and socks that fit. I like injniji because they prevent blisters well. Nothing beats practice. You're going to do great.

    • @Surberus1066
      @Surberus1066 Рік тому +3

@@jeyyran If it's friction and blistering, Body Glide can help with that. But it could also be an issue with the 'toe box' of your shoe being too snug. Is it worse on the uphill or the downhill? If it's the downhill, your foot could be shifting in the shoe so you might need to adjust your lacing pattern. Good luck!

"Because I feel confident in my body" in the context of feeling assured in attempting colossal physical challenges is a gamechanger. As women we're almost always told that we should be confident in our appearances, that we're "beautiful" no matter what. And there's merit to that, but the sheer empowerment of being able to say out loud that you know you're strong as hell, that you're prepared to push yourself, that you've done the work to listen to and optimize your body, that you've trained and worked hard all these years. That is so powerful. Especially in a video where you sprained your ankle too haha!
Gosh, Natacha. You're a force of nature. Thank you for sharing you--yes, you--with us. A few months ago I broke up with my boyfriend of 4 years. I was devastated to say the least. Didn’t feel like moving or eating. Even though I wasn’t in the best place, I was still being hard on myself for not eating right and not moving. The only thing that helped were your “What I eat in a day videos”. Your positivity towards eating and Mario’s presence in those videos made it possible for me to first, not feel bad about not eating well and second, restored my faith in love. I owe so much of my confidence and happiness to you, your work, and Mario. Thank you, Natacha ❤

Constantly used those as excuses for why I can't run or can't fully excel at fitness. 6months ago I genuinely just decided I needed to do a marathon. Good luck with the training and the race. I used to compete and ranked top in many famous ultra races: my number one advice would be for you to get used to ingesting food while you run (around 200-300kcal per hour should be fine). Everyone usually gets the training right, but many DNFs happen because people can't get enough energy in after 10h+ of running, or they aren't used to it and start experiencing stomach issues, vomitting, etc. Ultra running is all about managing your heart beat and maintaining it within an acceptable range, as long as you go above, walk. But most important is to enjoy and feel the environment, the air and the sensation of freedom. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the preparation!

I can say with certainty you’re the most inspiring and genuine UA-camr/influencer that I have come across!
I also think it’s awesome that you’re supporting charities through your journey. I’m sure you’ve been experiencing the UV in Australia and have realised how easy it is to get burnt here. I think Cancer council (or perhaps and international alternative) would be a very worthwhile cause given the rates of skin cancer (in Aus in particular!), and to raise awareness in a series where it looks like you’re doing plenty of training outside in the sun (remember your SPF while training here!!). Regardless of which charity you choose to support this time, love your stuff and can’t wait to see you give it your all - succeed or fail!

Natacha, I don’t know that you’ll see this, but when you first posted this video I couldn’t watch it. I set a goal for myself near the end of last year that I was finally going to start training to run a marathon and in February of this year I tore my meniscus and I felt so disheartened and discouraged. So when you posted this I couldn’t watch it because I knew I was going to feel, unfortunately, jealous. I already admire you so much, and your approach to fitness and the way you train have been my #1 inspiration for getting myself fit. But now, it’s several months later, I’m back in the gym and I’m actually following your Cut program! Since getting injured I’ve only tried running on the treadmill, and thankfully I can with no pain! But I’ve decided that it’s better for me to build foundational strength, build that muscle and endurance, and lose the excess body fat (I’m currently overweight) and then I can go back and start training in a smarter, more intentional way.
All of that to say, I’m watching this now and getting emotional with you. I’m so excited for you to accomplish this and also thank you for all that you’ve done for me!

Hey Natacha! this is so awesome,
Everyone here has put down some really important charities. Some that sticks out to me are the Alzheimer's research. I'm a med student currently on my aged psychiatry rotation and I can definitely see how heartbreaking it is for people and their families to have their loved one go through dementia.
Some others you could consider are the butterfly foundation which I think hits close to home for a lot of us - primarily focussing on eating disorders & mental health.
Two that are very close to my heart are MSF - funding for medical equipment, shelters and doctors + nurses in so so many parts of the world that are less fortunate than us, and All Hands and Hearts which focusses on rebuilding structures such as hospitals, schools, and shelters in countries that have been affected by disasters including natural and man made. I just spent some time in the Philippines with them and they have other projects in Ukraine, Mexico, Turkiye, and Nepal. They are quite a small, not well known organisation but their work helps so many and makes a lasting impact on the communities, and they've struggled with funding since COVID19
Ultimately, you should choose something that feels right to you xx

Hi Natacha 12:58. This is the first time I’ve commented on one of your videos as I am usually a silent watcher, however, I just wanted to say how amazing you are. You inspire me every single time I watch one of your uploads. The past year for me have been one of the hardest in my life. I had a smear test (after having some horrendous symptoms) and found out that quite a few of my cervical cells had changed and I had to have a surgery to remove them. I really struggle to discuss the diagnosis as it still feels unreal and I am awaiting further surgery. Anyway. Since that diagnosis, and having lost my grandad to Cancer previously, I decided that I wanted to do something to raise money for cancer research as they have been the best support during this tough time. I then watched one of your videos relating to a marathon and I decided - having never ran for more than a minute - that I would sign up to the London marathon and if I got a slot, I would train and ensure I complete it. So. I actually didn’t expect to get a space and was in utter shock when I found out that I have. I have since spent each week following a training plan and travelled to London on a few occasions to meet with the cancer research team to learn more about their research and I will be running the London marathon in April. I have a justgiving fundraising page where I am trying to raise £2,000 for cancer research and I would REALLY appreciate any donation - big or small - from any of your followers (because it feels like a big family) or from you (that would probably make me cry, if I saw your name on my donation page!). I aim to run the marathon within the 4 hour mark and I’m training as hard as I can to be fit enough to do so, whilst also having to maintain my health alongside my mental health which dips when I spend too long thinking about my current diagnosis. Anyway. Ramble over. Just please know how much your videos inspire people like me to try and make a difference in this world and once again - any donation would be SUPER appreciated. I’d also looooove a Skype call with you to discuss tips/tricks of training but I’m sure you won’t have time to do that so no pressure at all!! I’ll link my justgiving page here xxx

it's such a damn blessing and we are so incredibly lucky to have the chance, and we're not going to have it forever!! I hope you don't worry about any of the pressure and just let yourself have fun with especially as your first one. it'll be something you look back on one day and feel so happy to have just tried, even if you don't stick with it! I'm super proud of you Emily, let me know how it all goes!! you're amazing for just trying something new 👏

Omg clicked on this so fast!! You’re just wonderful and thank you for inspiring us on our journey! Can’t wait for that running+gym program to come out, I’ve completed the couch to 5k and now feel lost as to how to force myself to go running 😄 it’s really rewarding though to see these results and best of luck to you for your 100 miles! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love everything about this video!!
My now fiance completed the Pinhoti 100 endurance race a few months ago and proposed to me at the finished line!! It was his first 100. He finished in 18th place overall. Totally crushed it, his race had over 14k ft of elevation gain. And yes, he still managed to drop to 1 knee at the finish line. Hahaha even though I DID have to help him back up 😁. I was part of his crew and the entire ultra community is just amazing! I can't wait to watch this journey for you.
I totally support the endometriosis comments I've seen. Such a common, difficult, painful issue that does not get enough attention and research. I suspect I have it but I don't want to go down the current road of "diagnoses" b/c it's rough. I hope that in a few years things will change and more women can receive the diagnosis, treatment and support they need. This community, this amazing community you've built can be a part of that improvement. Thank you for doing this, for asking us, for caring. So badass!
As far as a personal challenge... mine is actually to work up the courage to start a UA-cam channel. I'm so inspired by the platform and the amazing communicaties people are able to create and the impact certain channels have had on me and others BUT I'm sensitive, like really sensitive. Not necessarily for myself, I have a thick skin but to general negativity, bullying, ignorance... because I always just 'care too much' and want people to be better, ya know? So I know that entering the public online space will be a very big mental challenge for me. But I know I can do it or should at least try. That there are so many good people out there to focus on instead of the few bad apples I'll encounter. So yeah..thanks for that inspiration too. You rock. I love your channel, your content, your scienceeeee backed info!!
    Hi Mario! Love you both!!
Edit** another great organization is the GiveWell Top Charities Fund. Each quarter GiveWell.org donates to the most cost-effective, evidence-backed charities that save or improve lives the most per dollar. It's brilliant and we are donating half of our wedding $$$ to them. Plus don't you just love an evidence backed charity?? 👌

About 4 years ago, I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer. It's a horrible disease that goes unnoticed until it's too late, most of the time. Patients wellbeing goes downhill fast and as family and friends you feel so helpless because there's really nothing that you can do. There's a lot of ongoing research on this type of cancer, so it can be detected earlier and also they're trying to come up with effective treatment methods. So far, there's still a lot of research needed. I would love to spare other people the experience of seeing a loved one suffering from pancreatic cancer; it would be lovely if the proceeds of your run(video) could go to research into pancreatic cancer ❤️💔

As someone who has always used running as way to better my mental health, and helps me process my thoughts, I love that you are using running to raise awareness for a cause. I am putting the Children's Aid Foundation of Canada in the running for the charity. They raise money for youth that have aged out of the welfare system. They changed my life and allowed me to pursue my educational dream that I could have never without them!!

My charity suggestion would be dementia research. I've watched both of my grandfathers go through it until they could hardly function before passing, and my grandmother is currently fighting it. It's such a hard thing for everyone in the family to watch happen. No matter what is chosen, I want to thank you for doing this. You have such a huge following, and it's amazing to see you use it for something like this ❤️❤️

i’ve been a long-time watcher and you’ve always been one of my favourite fitness influencers because of the way you discuss health, nutrition, and fitness.
two years ago, i sprained my ankle and badly damaged pretty much all the ligaments on the outside of my left ankle! and then a year and a half later, i injured the same ankle, but this time the ligaments on the inside and also fractured my heel! for a bit, i was settled on the idea i wasn’t ever going to run again, but have decided i actually enjoy being able to move so seeing this video has encouraged me even more to follow through with the running programme from my physio and feel more capable in my body!! thanks natacha!!!! 🥺💖

My challenge to myself is losing 23 lbs and training for my first triathlon in June (sprint distance). From completely sedentary in October I have slowly started to increase my exercise, now training 6 days a week and feeling much healthier and fitter already just by exercising. Also I've lost 5 lbs since cutting back on sugar.

Girlll when you said you were gonna get into more running this year you weren’t kidding! As a fellow ultra trail racer, and fan, I can give you (and anyone else thinking of doing their first ultra) some unsolicited advice I wish I’d had when I started ultra trail running a few years ago 😊
Tip #1: train for els per mile!! It’s way more important to be conditioned to cover a certain elevation per mile (like over 100ft/mi) than it is to approach an anticipated distance on any given training run. Definitely check the course elevation profile for the race you end up registering for and aim for that…I’ve found the elevation, not the distance, is the hardest part. You already know you can cover ~100 miles in a day-ish, but a trail run is a different beast than a road run. Anticipate being slower on the trail than you would be on road for the same distance. And anticipate walking/power hiking. It’s more energy efficient on steeper sections.
Tip #2: train mostly on trails! And altitude, if you really plan to run at altitude though I do not recommend it as a first time. And if your race is on single track, train mostly on single track! You need to get used to the feeling of trail running. It’s a lot like mountain biking - you are constantly scanning your line 10s ahead to find safe passage. There will be rocks, boulders, roots, downed trees…you are focusing the whole time on not tripping and eating dirt. Every time I space out on the trail I eat it, so getting your brain used to being focused for that long is important.
Tip #3: plan to trail run in the dark sometimes in training!!! As per the previous tip, night running on isolated trails is way harder (and scarier) than on road near civilization.
That brings me to my last tip for training and that’s
#4: maybe find a running partner! Race day is a solo journey, you’re doing it on your own. But all the hours (many many hours) of training you will be doing in the months leading up the race are a lonely time. It’s fun to run with someone who is maybe at the same level as you or better, to challenge you. Find a buddy through a local running club and see if you can’t do a few weekly long runs together. You’ll get a really good friend out of it and it helps pass the time :)
Ahh good luck, I’m also training for an ultra this summer, maybe I’ll see you out there in the great outdoors 🚶‍♀️ill loop you in on another secret - all trail runners have terrible ankles haha. I’ve sprained mine at my right ankle at least half a dozen times…so you’re among friends 😊

I love this video so much and I’m so excited for this journey!! I’m in the process of possibly getting diagnosed with a chronic illness, and it’s been a long 2yr journey of good days and bad days where I can’t do much at all. My older sister has severe Crohn’s Disease, and it affects her ability to live her life to the fullest too. You’re a great inspiration to me and watching your videos helps me feel grateful for my good days. It would mean a lot if you would consider choosing the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation as a charity to support!!

Thank you for sharing. My boyfriend is training to run 100 miles and I struggle to understand why even though I also love running. I fully support him by driving him to and from locations, I make sure he eats and I help him get his gear together, I run with him and encourage him to go out when he needs to even if he doesn't want to. I also plan on being one of his pacers so I'm training in my own way. I just struggle to find the why as they say.

I’ve have MS and I’m in my 40s and completed my 1st 100 miler a couple of years ago.
I share the same outlook. So thankful for movement and mobility. If the day ever comes where these legs fail me…I’ll know I’ve drained them of every drop they had to give.
