WHAT HAPPENED TO TY THOMPSON? Highest rated qb to ever sign to Oregon (at the time). People booing Anthony Brown and chanting for Ty. Losing the job to Bo. Transferring to Tulane and not doing great. Entering the transfer portal, and then exiting the portal to play TE for Tulane. WHAT?!?!?!
The best thing about the transfer portal is it’s exposing busts before they get to the pros. First tate Martell, JT Daniels, dj uggabugga, agiye hall plus many others along with Malachi Nelson.
I don’t think it’s exposing busts it’s creating them. You can’t just transfer to a school and expect to beat out a guy whose been in the system for 3 years and if you’re going to transfer every time you sit the bench you’re never going to earn the cache or learn the offense enough to get the guarantees
I remember being glad when Nelson first committed to USC but then they aired one of his high school games on ESPN and I remember thinking wow this kid really isn’t ready for big time football yet. I was just hoping it was just one bad game and not a sign for what’s to come
Dirk Koetter, Boise State's outgoing OC, former NFL head coach, amongst other positions for decades was the main guy evaluating Malachi vs current Boise QB, Maddox Madsen. He very clearly felt Madsen was the guy. I think he saw a lot of what you mentioned.
I believe future student athletes need to be realistic about their future athletic opportunities. Competition is a great in sports, because we you start having a 9-5 profession, you will face competition from colleagues and managerial staff.
I’m a BSU fan. The coaching staff is not going to coronate someone just because he was a 5-star coming out of HS. He competed for the starting job in camp and lost. Madsen had his down games but never enough to bench him. The last thing the team wanted was a “QB by committee” like they had the previous year under Andy Avalos until he was fired and Spencer Danielson got the job. That arrangement pushed Tayler Green to Arkansas.
Correct. Who the starter was going to be was a mystery right through Spring camp. Dirk Koetter simply did not believe Malachi was a better QB than Madsen. Hard to argue considering Boise St was 12-2. The question is, without Jeanty, can Madsen do more with his pass game?
When Ego, sense of entitlement, and a lack of patience is all in the mixing pot… the dish you serve hardly (if ever) comes out tasting the way you desire. These young men have limited life experience to make these kind of life altering decisions… and the pattern we keep seeing unfold is proving that.
The Los Alamitos HS QB who started before Nelson's time just finished his career at UTEP. There's probably some connections there that led to Nelson transferring to UTEP as well.
When I think of UTEP I still think of Tyler Ebell a star RB who started at UCLA before joining El Paso … that was a long time ago an my only thought about that program
Reading his interview regarding his USC transfer and watching his handler’s video on his first spring game showed others are making his move decisions for him. He also went in the Portal before Will Howard and Jayden Maiava talk.
He could've learned behind not only Caleb Williams, but competed with Moss and Jayden. Competition brings out greatness, like Pete Carroll emphasized. He wasn't going to find a better QB coach than LR✌️✌️⚔️✌️✌️
He could get his name back in business in time for the draft, all it takes is a good year at UTEP. He's still here, and I think he can do it, but it all depends on what he does with opportunity at UTEP
As a Boise St fan, I'm sorry he left, but I don't blame him. I think he was confident that he'd be the starter this season. He probably did not expect the current QB, Maddox Madsen, to beat him out. It is clear Madsen will be the QB at Boise St next year after going 12-2 , winning a conference title and earning a CFP bid. I hope he does well at UTEP.
People think you should start day 1 on campus, that's never how it should work not for a qb position. It happens sure, but rarely should if at all, Boise went with experience for some reason, malichi on paper is a stud, but gotta put to field what is on paper and he has not
Dirk Koetter, the outgoing OC was a former head coach and NFL coach. His experience level is off the charts. He was only Boise's OC because he lives in Boise and came out of retirement. That being said, he was extremely qualified to analyze talent. He chose Madsen over Malachi. Obviously the right choice since Boise St went 12-2, etc.
@SurfCityBill Boise always goes 10-2 it's cause there in the mountain west in the last 20 years Boise is like 180 and 50 actually they are 206 and 52.... They've had 5 not 10 win seasons in the last 21 years lol 🤣🤣🤣 try to tell me an NFL coach had something to do with it sit down kid Boise has always dominated pee wee division 1 smh 🤣🤣🤣
This is what happens when you have a kid and you never push them to be better, you just accept them as being the best and set them up for failure. Probably played down every year in pop warner then went to Los Al instead of trying to go to a real CA powerhouse to have real competition. Everybody is really talented at the next level, ability is not enough and he has never learned work ethic, he has just gotten away with being the best athlete.
@@jaquezgeorge3893 That clown. LSU to Florida to Georgia to Nebraska to jail! Broke into a vape store in Lincoln and arrested and kicked off team. Got arrested again for another breaking and entering when he got back to Georgia. I guess he can play for the Mean Machine.
So many Kids need development out of high school especially QBs. Transferring after 1 season at 2 different programs hampers your ability massively as a quarterback to develop and get better. Dude needs an adult in his ear, to tell him how it is and that he needs to make serious improvements to his game. Seems like all he has is a bunch of hype men gassing him up instead of holding him accountable
LOOK YOU UA-cam GUYS ARE STARTING TO GET TO DISRESPECTFUL .WE ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT YOUNG MEN WITH THERE LIFE AHEAD OF THEM.... SO BLAME THE NCAA FOR THIS TERRIBLE SYSTEM IN PLACE NOT TGE 19 YEAR ILD KID
I don't like rooting for a kid to fail and I hope it turns out well for him, but UTEP isn't exactly QB-U and he's got a massive hill to climb to get back on the NFL radar.
That's what I never understood. I thought Malachi was the best pure passer from his hs class in terms of a combination of arm talent and accuracy, and he is a good athlete who can play in structure and never seemed to have character issues. Hope to see him succeed at UTEP.
@@jesusm2159 Malachi couldn't prove to Dirk Koetter and the staff that he was better than Madsen. Got to respect Koetter's experience in evaluating talent. Either way, Boise St would not be 12-2 with Malachi starting.
OC felt Maddux didnt “lose” games that Jeanty could win for them … and. MN didn’t want to put in time to show he could protect the ball as well as Maddux. I’m concerned he’s gonna keep hopping around I really liked his throws and wanted him to take over next year
@ agree. That was his worst game of the year at the worst time. But, the coaches saw both of them run the O everyday and Malachai still couldn’t beat him out.

Meanwhile the top QB,Arch Manning, patiently waits his turn at Texas.
I'm an Oklahoma fan and I respect Arch Manning for waiting his turn. I wish Jackson Arnold would've been like that lol
Yup arch played it right learn grow an allow your body an game to develop all while bein the back up and havin no real expectations
