Australian Road Trip | Byron Bay to Melbourne

  • Hello Darlings! In this weeks video James and I have come from visiting family in Byron Bay and we decided to take a road trip to get back to Melbourne. We didn't use any satellite navigation on our phones to guide our journey, we just used the old school map book to find our way home to Melbourne through inland Australia! We start on the far north east coast of NSW and then go inland to Armidale and Tamworth and lots of little cute towns between! I know this isn't my usual vintage video, but I hope you enjoy this style of video just the same!
    Sending lots of love,

Americans singing along: Oh, beautiful for spacious skies,
    For amber waves of grain,
    For purple mountain majesties
    Above the fruited plain!
    America! America!
God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
    From sea to shining sea.

@@lauramanning8659 There isn't an Australian version! It's completely unique to The States. I was listening and thinking, "Isn't this American? What is this song?" And then I remembered. I'm not sure why she chose it but I think she wanted something majestic. 😊

I just found you, and enjoyed your road trip so much! I adore your accent, and your vintage style. You see, I am a widow ,83 years old. Watching you and your sweet hubby reminds me so much of me and my hubby back in 1962 on our honeymoon camping road trip across the USA. And many, many years later of our trip to Australia. Thanks for the memories!

Don't forget, also the other side of the car. Learning to drive that way was a bit challenging at first. I was always going to the "wrong" side of the car, looking for the steering wheel. 🥴

    1). Adorable couple💖
2). Gorgeous sites/kangaroos (that really is a "thing")
3). No arguing from either one of you arguing or fighting over having to look at the map book because you got lost and had no idea where you were. (Our map book was torn to shreds when we were driving through the Los Angeles area decades ago)😑
4.) No pulling over asking for directions from random people.
5.) Steady state of calm throughout your whole journey.😌
6.) Not an ounce of traffic anywhere 🗻🌄⛰️
Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous journey with the rest of us. 🌹❤️🌹

    • @saundrajohnson1571
      @saundrajohnson1571 3 роки тому +5

@@hutchcraftcp No. It's completely different. Yes, there are spots here and there that are reminiscent of Texas, but all in all, Australia is MUCH different. It's also nearly the same size as the US, and - like the US - it's landscape changes, depending on where you go.
EDIT: I just wanted to mention that I have lived in both Texas and Australia for several years, so I know this firsthand. 😉

I'm so glad you had a safe trip! It's great you both are covid free, sounds strange but I like to hear about the different precautions different countries are doing. As a nurse I've had covid twice and it's not anything fun. I caught it the first time in mid March 2020 from a patient right before my state went into shut down (before any precautions were even in place). Then I caught it again from my roommate in January of this year. Hopefully our world will return to "normal" soon.

The only thing I still have an issue with is taste/smells, and it's slowly coming back. I can smell really strong things but not much else. You may be surprised to learn that a real 1950s road trip would have seen you on roads without asphalt/bitumen+chippings on many occasions, gravel road (even parts of the Hume Hwy). You would have heard the gravel stones 'polishing' the underside of your vehicle, and perhaps a stone would get into your drum brakes requiring a visit to a garage. Tyres weren't as good - you would have expected to change at least one. And when you bought petrol it was a totally hands free for you business - an attendant filled the tank for you, you just handed over cash and got 'change'.

Oh I love road trips! It looks like you had so much fun 🥰 Adding some of these destinations to my Australia travel list 💖
Also, the Big Banana! My son loves the TV show Bluey and when they take a road trip they stop by the “Big Peanut”. I couldn’t help but think of the show when I saw that 🥰

Hello beautiful people. 🇬🇧 you are so English for Aussies. Your scenery is also beautiful like places in the UK. It’s weird to see minus wintery weather on my birthday July 10th of which Is the hottest month in the UK 🇬🇧
Love your vlogs. They are so professional. Lots of love ❤️ xx

As a fellow Melburnian who was originally from Newcastle and has done the the trip to Byron and back countless times, it was so nice to see places that I haven't been to on the trip! Definitely going to stop at all these places next time💜

Yay another Melburnian! ❤️ Yeah, we really enjoyed doing this inland trip because it was so different from going along the coast road!
