I've just returned from my brother's funeral on the Isle of Man and this song was played at the time of personal reflection. It was beautiful and extremely emotional but perfect for the occasion. I'll never be able to listen to this song again without thinking of my brother 💔 😪

So sad that Robin has passed away. Elan Vannin is a special song to us. We recoreded an audiance with the Bee Gees and played this alot when our son was a baby. As he grew older, every time we watched it Elan Vannin would come on and he would crawl to the tv and stand up on his own, then one day it was on and he stood up to the song then turned around and walked over to me. Our baby is now 12 and still loves this song as much as us. God bless the Gibb family. Rest in peace Robin. Never forgotten

I knew them as schoolboys, and they were good friends, I left the Island in the 60's and travelled the world, but never lost their music. Now at 70+ Im so thankful for youtube to be able to see and hear once again, what should have been recognised as the national anthem, in my humble opinion, much more suited to the modern generation than the religon based "O land of our birth, O gem of Gods earth" I love my Island, and return to it on a regular basis, I was taught Manx gaelic by Douglas Crebbin Faragher, in the post war years, who also taught me the poetic works of T. E. Brown. "Ellan Vannin" and the brothers will live forever in the hearts of Manx ex-pats, Thanks for the post.

Stories about the family are numerous but they moved around living in various Manx houses, like Willaston, Laxey, finally being housed out at Jurby, before they left the Island (under a cloud) and moved to Manchester.
I've never been to the Isle of Man, but my grandfather was born there and when he passed away two years ago I learnt this song and played it on violin and sang it at his funeral. I'm fiercely proud of a place I've never been and I began my "The Emerald Isle" school concert with this acapella. I'll always be proud of that.
I wish I hadn’t lived to see our beautiful Isle destroyed by the English. It breaks my heart that somewhere so beautiful has been totally and completely destroyed. We have no golden beaches or shining sea, just raw sewage. Our green fields have been paved with cheap Dandara housing. Our once blue skies are grey and greasy with muck. Our people have nearly all gone (born here doesn’t equal Manx but the English comeovers call themselves Manx). I’m one of the very last real Manx. Our island is dead. Anything we had to be proud of is dead and gone. This song is for a lost past.
I would be described as an English comeover but actually a comeback. My family had to leave the Island due to lack of work. Now we are back, with a family tree on the Island going back hundreds of years. Vel gaelg ayd?

Ellen Montgomery There are many people that know the boys earlier, later and their solo stuff but they still are not crazy about Rob. Not everyone is a fan of his voice or his music. I happen to be a Bee Gee fan that loves Rob's voice and a good deal of his music. I'm probably one of his biggest fans, well of his music. He was extremely talented and HFW still blows me away. But I know many that don't share my opinions. Rob has a marmite type of voice. And a lot of his music is so damn sad, so no, it doesn't appeal to everyone, not even Bee Gee fans.

Robin has something unique in his voice that I can't explain. Its higher pitch, crystal clear vibrato and tone are the most amazing qualities I have heard from any voice ever. He really sounds like a divine being singing with passion.
This is my 1st time seeing this version. I have watched many,many times the solo version Robin sings inside the church with the choir. The solo version is absolutely beautiful with all the videos but this version truly showcases Robin's MAGNIFICENT voice. I actually have goosebumps on my arms and shivers running down my spine!!

This is my 1st time seeing this version. I have watched many,many times the solo version Robin sings inside the church with the choir. The solo version is absolutely beautiful with all the videos but this version truly showcases Robin's MAGNIFICENT voice. I actually have goosebumps on my arms and shivers running down my spine!!

This heart- rendering version reminded me of my music lessons at Murray's Rd School in Douglas, where we would occasionally sing it, but in no way as passionate or as meaningful as Robin Gibbs....I shall make sure it is played at my dismissal, when the time comes.......Thank you the Bee Gees!
