- Developer Dontnod's tale of a vampire doctor is elevated by a lot of great story, characters, and world-building, but its systems and technical hiccups weigh it down.

Making good games is hard, hats off to the devs for trying something unique and different
Not really unique when there's already games with Vampire settings and the combat consists of braindead buttonmashing
UMA DELÍCIA all games are button mashing. Having over complicated controls are just as bad as games with simple controls
there are not many games with vampires lol and this game does have a unique system of the world being a connected web and each citizen feeling like a real person rather then a useless npc, I can;'t name a title right now that does this vampire like system with the blood also where you can see how healthy people are. Vampyr DOES have some things going for it then just stiff combat.
plus, i heard their budget arent even that massive
Every single NPC has a story, and are tied in with other NPC's that's pretty damn cool.
Who is here because its free with PS Plus?

I am. Both of these games look like crap.
David Summers NFS is garbage game that’s full of paywalls but Vampyr seems like a game I’ll give a try
IGN Review: Too much Blood, not enough Borne 7/10
That's actually a good review. I'm checking this out for myself.
Watch ACG’s review. He does long in depth reviews and he said it’s a must buy
oh shut up too much not enough bla bla /10
Is it like VTMBL tho?
like him, but his reviews are too indepth xD. After watching a few fully, now i just skip to gameplay review part. so to the last 10-15 min of the video.
They are saying that for a reason though because the whole "feeding on npc's" thing is supposed to be a tough choice you need to make for either surviving or getting info or quest, and they are saying that because the game is so easy that it makes that feeling of tough choices nonexistent. With the way the combat is, all the special powers and all the different enemy designs this game would have been much better with actual challenge.
This game needs sequels. Here's two a Dr. Jonathan Reid series!
“Two”
Don’t care buying it. Looks like a lot of love went into this game
TBH Reviews main ingredient: Love
TBH Reviews wish I could like this comment more than once I couldn't say it any better myself
TBH Reviews Lil' punctuation goes a long weh.
Looks like all this game needs is a a few bug fixes and a new game plus or additional difficulty level and it would be better i can see the devs doing this if fans request it enough
TBH Reviews no need to buy just pirate it.

The sequel could be set in the modern day as Dr Jonathan Reid runs around London trying to save the city from the coronavirus as he recycles toilet paper and hand sanitizer into medical supplies.
Lol funny but no.. I had just started to play the game though. The characters are interesting and I’m enjoying the story so far.
You had me in the first half... not gonna lie

You won't know who has disease if you guess wrong you contract it and perish
LMFAO
I'll just mute the video so I can read the comments and get a proper review.
Yeah this is what I do before I download a video game, lol
Exactly
omg nea hey
Did this game ever got advertised? I never knew its existence till now lol
TheBlackItalianGamer yea, for a while
TheBlackItalianGamer not really and ign never talked about it till now I’ve known it’s been coming out for months now thanks to GameFly but ign never mentioned anything about it releasing till now
This is interesting, as this game seems to has a slightly "smaller" budget than AAA games. AAA games budgets are usually 1/3 game development 2/3 marketing. Its kinda crazy though.
lentilgnz 0628 thats because ign are a bunch of self intitled snobs who dont actually care about anything entertainment they only care about trying to be a voice that wants to be heard video games and movies were made to be fun ign takes the FUN!!!!!! Factor out of a lot its a form of entertainment its supposed to be entertaining
IGN talked to the devs at last year’s E3, but that was it
Who's here because they have the sudden urge to drink blood and want to figure out what is wrong with them?
I feel that
WTF?!?!

We have a vampire in the chat
As well as ps plus
I'm just glad we are getting a vampire game, something we need more of imo
JacobOlli Did you miss the whole legacy of Kain series?
JacobOlli We need BloodRayne 3
We need a new Vampire: The Masquerade.
And then you'll get two more vampire games, and all of a sudden it's over saturated.
Wish we had more games with vampires instead of sh!tty zombies that are overused..
I wish the devs that made this beauty would make a werewolf game
And a Vampire/monster hunter game like you're Van Helsing or something. Or making a game where there's both vampires and werewolves and etc.

I see this studio has a LOT of potential. While I can't see myself buying this right away, I will definitely pick it up when it goes on sale. I think this series could greatly benefit from a sequel.
JKPRising I'll buy it instantly just to support them with a full $60 it's what keeps games like this alive and in production
I enjoyed Remember ME but it had potential to be a masterpiece. Ost is top notch though
Life is Strange is made by this studio. That explains why the mouth animation isnt good lol.
it's on sale now in PS store
Heads up, it's on sale.
This is why we don't get more unique games. Because shitty reviewers like IGN scrutinize the game and give it average review scores, without taking into account that it's a budget title that tries to do something new, while applauding shitty AAA games like Call of Duty that do the same thing every year and have had time to iteratively perfect their formula.
So what? They should give +3 point automatically if it is not a repeat game? This review is just on point, and the problem is not the budget.
Its up to the customers/gamers. If the game is good, it will sell good enough as well. Its that simple. But yeah, its much easier to blame the “bad, bad reviewers”, because they are the one’s who decides what game will be released and what not, right?
Could see it becoming a Cult Classic.
doesn't look like vampire the masquerade material. I will definitely try it out at some point though
I want another Remember Me :(

Coffee Break Hero yea tru
Coffee Break Hero - I'd be surprised if it _was._
Do not let this review fool you. IGN has severely overlooked this amazing game and the many new elements it brings to the table. This game is definitely worth a try
Never forget that IGN gave FORTNITE a 9.7.... this is a 9.8
CookiesOnaMilkyRiver Fortnite is more like a 7/10
CookiesOnaMilkyRiver Never forget that that game is a different genre and has different checklists. Also IGN isn't 1 person.

Its so sad how the lack of difficulty affected the game. I just finished it (on hard) and i felt OBLIGATED to mesmerize some citizens, enemies were killing me in two hits and taking no dmg from my abilities. The game, despite its bugs and loading issues, was incredible for me.
It really is a breath of fresh air.
I admire how eloquently Dr. Reid expresses himself when he speaks. A fine English form of expression. I wish I could speak like him.
This game is a hidden gem.

That's because both are inspired by Shostakovich.
I don't understand why there aren't more vampire games like this when they are everywhere in popular culture. Zombies don't suffer from that, yet the idea of vampires seems much more interesting to me rn, and is still fresh in video games. I still remember Soul Reaver, I loved that game.
I feel like the title of the game should be pronounced as "Vamp-ee-r" rather than "Vampire"
You are correct!
Yeah when he pronounced it VAMPIRE I was all “what Dafaq?”
Vampyre is an old english spelling. It's still pronounced the same
Harry Moore I didn’t know that. I thought it was Vamp-ear! Learn something new every day. I do know that in some cases it is pronounced Vamp-ear! I’m not a total uncultured swine. Lol
Sounds more unique imo
Can't wait to play this. Wish legacy of Kaine would make a comeback. Like a reboot or something. For today's consoles.

They were actually developing a new game but then cancelled it at very end, couple years ago.
I wish they would make a comeback.
World Wolf yeah it sure did had another and too bad it was cancelled but thosr games had so much potential and I wish there is remastered versions
I would accept Crash/Spyro/Shadow of the Colossus style remasters of Legacy of Kain....

It's amazing that a game like this gets a 7/10 when other mindless repetitive violence games get higher than 9/10.
We need Remember me 2
Underrated masterpiece
The combat system and platforming nearly ruined the game for me. They are just too bad to push thru even if you are a fan of story heavy games..
I remember it being a really good idea but the execution wasn't great. It was worth renting though, and a sequel could work if they do it right.
no one wants it dude that game fell apart in combat and platforming the only good thing was the story which is still forgettable.
never even herd of it
I love that game. Remember Me Was so good.😍
I just beat this game with a no embrace playthrough and loved it. I think of it as a vampire mass effect... Amazing surprise experience!!

This game is amazing. Yes some mechanics need to be improved on, but as a new idea this game is fantastic. The love, thought, and creativity that went into this game is ever-apparant. Truth be told the combat did get old, but the story is undying. A Vampyr 2 (should that ever come into fruition) would be a game of the year masterpiece. I hold games that attempt something daring and un-tested in very high regard, and vampyr may have struck gold.
I really don’t understand how this gets a 7/10.
You think it should be higher?

Bought the game last night before watching review and can honestly say it’s worth your time. The combat is actually pretty fun once you start dumping points into the various vampire powers (which all look fantastic and are fun to use). My one and only gripe is that the melee weapons are a little lackluster, but this is made up for by the amazing world, soundtrack and the many genuinely interesting stories I’ve discovered from patients at the hospital. & that bite attack 😍
Looks good, but I will wait for a sale. I would rather support a smaller studio that makes decent games that have some flaws than the bigger companies that put out polished cookie cutter games.
TLSPanthers err these guys made only like 2 games, the funding of life is strange helped them put this together
Yokonato That's what I mean. These guys are the smaller studios I'm talking about. I'm tight on cash right now, but I'll definitely pick this up when it goes on sale.
Waiting for a sale is hardly supporting a small team.

That's what a REVIEW is, lengthy & insightful to everything going on in-game, "aweful" because you don't have the attention span to listen ??? ok...
I recommend Worth A Buy. Very honest and hilarious reviews.
Ravus ACG is one of better reviewers. But he has this itch for beating his own trumpet.
I got this game last year when it was on sale for $5 and recently gotten around to playing(3days) and finishing it last night(Normal). Approximately 25-30hrs to 100% completion on your own.
I will say it has a lot of uniqueness about it. I was drawn in with the regards of being a Doctor/Vampyr but it obviously has similar mechanics of other well known action/rpgs, and that's not a bad thing. I will say that I'm glad I got around to starting and finishing it because I was sleeping on it for awhile 😉.
I like the fact that you can keep every main NPC character in the districts alive and heal them as Dr. Reid as opposed to giving into your Vampiric "thirst for blood".
The combat is definitely something. Fun but also hanky janky.
Moments of fun and greatness but also moments of disaster and frustration, especially within a group if locked on or dashing and getting "trapped" and can't move between furnishings or enemies in combat. That was frustrating! It would be nice to see us be able to dash/teleport without getting caught between things? I mean we are a Vampyr after all!
The boss battles were very cool, slightly difficult and lots of fun! If we were to rate just the boss battles, it's easily a 9!
The story has depth for Reids' story but also tons of depth in-between NPC characters. Lots of engaging information and you do feel for the characters in some way or form.
All in all, I think lots of people missed out with this title. Me almost being one of them!
With all that said, I absolutely enjoyed the game and I do look forward to a Vampyr 2.
I believe if they can address some of the bugs such as loading times, a little bit more consistency within the main gameplay and not getting booted because of error codes then this could be a big win.
I will give the game a very solid 7/10 for what it is. If they cleaned up the issues, it's an easy 8-8.5.
If you get it free or very cheap, I do urge you to play this title!
Overall, a very pleasant experience and more than likely exceeded my expectations!

You can't trust ign with reviews anymore this is an 8.5 for me reminds me of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, you want good reviews ACG is where is at.

GODDAMN AND THIS REVIEW CAME OUT THE SAME TIME AS THE GAME.
This reviewer has never completed the game.
And he played it on story mode
Im playing on story mode, but its my first time playing @BackNFourthHomie
The combat is the reason I'm hesitant. A vampire isnt supposed to move clunky. A vampire is supposed to move like the wind
this game looks really interesting,we need more games like this,im still waiting for a new game like vampire the masquerade bloodlines,i still play it every now and then
I really enjoyed this game it's one of my favorites. It's combat is similar to the Witcher 3. I really hope this game gets a sequel
30+ hours of gameplay is pretty good
Kamuro Tetsu isn't that just if you do a 100% of the game? I heard some people that if you don't go for a 100% the game lasts around 15hrs
is there ng+ ?
Hubert Loincloth Nope it's 24 hours of story and more if you do side quests, not sure what you did to make it shorter.
Hubert Loincloth Nope I've been doing everything, maybe it's because you're not exploring or talking to everyone and doing their side missions and helping them with their sicknesses.
Hubert Loincloth How Long To Beat says it's 37 hours for completionists and that's what I'm doing, they also say it's 22 hours for main story and extras. You couldn't have done 85% of everything else, their game times are almost never wrong.
For anyone wondering, DontNod added a Hard mode to the game which nullifies the criticism about not needing to kill civilians. The farther I've gotten, the harder it's been to level up without that exp boost
I wish someone make a game similar to vampire masquerade the bloodline
yes!
Yeeeees
Yes
Your wish has been granted.
WarhawkRevolver They are! Theres another one in development right now!
This game doesn’t exactly look like it comes out in 2018, tbh more like a 2014 release but I think quality of storytelling and atmosphere is more important than quality of gameplay as long as it isn’t entirely broken. At least for a narrative driven game like this
ehhhh looking forward to fixes or Vampyr 2. Really does have potential. I'd say if they are opting for DS or BB, they might as well go for it. No quest markers, Harsher enemies/punishment so that you feel more compelled to feeding rather than just "I might feed on him/her just to see what it does" Being a vampire should feel as though you need to do vampire things to survive, if I understood what was meant by "not being compelled to be a vampire" Also I'd love to see a Van Helsing kind of showdown.
wanderingbufoon a second vampire game and the first one literally just came out. Slow your role. Wow talk about impatient.
no, this is meant as I look forward to any fixes that they will provide in the future. May it come as patch or a sequel altogether. A lot of reviewers seem to agree on the loading and frame drops. They all have a varied view on gameplay and story. As well as the weapons. So I cannot make an assumption as it may seem very subjective. This was my piece on it. My main issue is the HUD. It looks simple and clean. Not at all very victorian/gothic, which should be the theme. The HUD feels as though it belongs to a futuristic or sci-fi game like Detroit:Become Human. Hopefully, after this release, they will have a bigger budget for the sequel and improve upon this. It really does give me the vibe of The Witcher in terms of how they are an "upstart" developer company that created something out of desire rather than a quick cash grab. Hopelly they will stay true like Projekt Red.

I remember being a vampire in Oblivion and spending 30 stressful hours trying to cure it. Almost giving up the game. I hope this is way easier and more rewarding..

While I understand you didn't feel the need to kill any characters, I think the review is lacking from the moral consequences and mechanical information of doing so. The game imparts their last thought and effects other npc's within the social circle.

I honestly really enjoy this game a lot. I understand it has various flaws, but it seems almost poetically apt in contrast to the flawed characters throughout the game. I really enjoy the mechanic of scavenging for various medical ingredients to craft cures for certain characters. One of the most unique experiences I've ever played!
ACG said it's a must buy. I can see why some bugs and frame rate issues (on consoles) are a negative, but a 7? Really?!
This is actually a common thing in metacritc, frame rate issues gets them a MUCH lower score than needed
Another ACG disciple:) I had the luck to get a free copy from work and its gorgeous! Its no AAA blockbuster and the combat is a bit stiff, but thats about it.
Magnificient NPC background stories and behaviours, sick atmosphere, amazing soundtrack. definitely 8/10, maybe even 8.5/10
I bought this with hopes of an rpg holding me over to bl3. Now, after playing for 2 days... Im switching it out for odyssey
Yeah, I find the game to be a bit lacking. The game world is certainly interesting, but all the mechanics - ability system, crafting system, quests - have been done before and the only uniqueness there is the "vampire flavour" if you will. The citizen system doesn't REALLY have consequences apart from making a district more or less secure or providing you with the XP boost you mentioned. The story and dialogue will every so often not link very well and seem to jump in that characters will talk about and mention things you are not aware of yet. They missed a lot of great opportunities there, too, for example by making you a doctor, but not letting you actually fill the role. You can speak with patients, but can't really make a decision or help resolve conflict because they never actually seem to say what exactly is wrong with them or what the injury they have actually is, to name just a few examples. Having them inform you about their condition and giving you dialogue choices about treatment for example would have helped greatly to identify with your character and flesh out their role in the world, other than being a "fighty vampire with an anachronistic hairstyle".
Vampire (tM): Bloodlines would have been great reference material about how to do open world, character development and branching quests right, but they simply missed this opportunity and thus instead of making you feel like a vampire in post-war London, the game just makes you feel like "generic 3rd person action game superhero". Which is a shame, considering that the setting has so much potential.
Epic will give this away tomorrow.
how did you know ?
Where did u get the leak
Support the devs, I bought this. I want the next game they make to be more like one of the greatest RPGs ever made, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. That, as the title suggests, also includes Vampires in a modern-day, gritty urban-jungle setting.
If you haven't played THAT game, you're doing yourself a great injustice.

I definitely need to get this. It looks like it's got some real personality to it.
I completely agree that the difficulty of the combat never put me in a situation where I had to leave the battle area and embrace citizens to return to the fight better equipped. Another mechanic that could have been better executed was the resource/merchant (trading) system. A player who chooses not to embrace citizens or buy anything from any merchants can make it to the end without any major hitches.

i can't stand the mediocrity of this game in almost all levels, the only thing that made me stick for a couple of hours are the powers to unlock when you level up, and boy that cursor thing even when playing using a controller is just lazy..if the developers for this game consider all the criticism as constructive, they could make a fine sequel
What annoyed me is that it didn't feel like it mattered when you take lives, if anything its worse, the streets are more filled, and upgrading things just makes you level up which in turn levels up the enemies.
disappointed....i give this game a 5/10 could've,would've,should've
Why 5/10
I know that 7/10 is not a bad score but this review doesn't do justice to this game AT ALL! ACG's review is far more detailed than this half baked thing.
It's an easy 9/10 if you ask me and I can't wait to see more of Dontnod in the future.
This was an inspiration from J.D's Dr. acula xD
Vampyr, or How I Became a Bloodsucking Full-Bearded Russ Hanneman Underwear Model Clone.
So a few bugs dropped it to a 7 well in future updates they'll most likely fix them so its a must buy for me😀
They did not fix them.
@@Callammurray the game was still pretty decent though
Hopefully they add a difficulty setting. It seems like the only thing this game is missing is tougher combat. I’ll buy this game as soon as that happens. It looks like a really really awesome idea
Anyone here after seeing epic giving away the game today for free as a mystery game🙂
I hate when people don't understand how opinions and reviews work when it's not what they want to hear.
Who would’ve thought this game would be relevant in 2020
1 hour in and I'm done. It feels so slow and clunky, nothing you would expect from a vampire. And the dialogues are simply boring.
couldn't said it better, NEXT
Whatever score ....I'm still checking this out
The reason they didn't give you an option to choose a difficulty is probably because you choose your own difficulty by making a decision to kill or not to kill an npc
Not a bad score though I think it deserved a bit higher.
I really liked the way they explained in the game why creating a new vampire by biting someone isn't that easy. That explains why there aren't as many vampire as humans. But then, her sister changed into a vampire after he first fed on her at the beginning of the game, I just think that was a plot hole
Wasn't a plot hole. She got John's blood on her lips during the hug.
