Tom, could you ever do an interview with Mark Evanier at some point? I’d really love a discussion between the two of you.
On top of everything else, Tom does the ultimate voice for Darkseid!
Only Baron Karza of the Micronauts received from Tom a similarly royal treatment of velvet vocal villainy.
I love how you do literary analysis of the text, like the oblivion/silent line.
It has often been remarked that Jack wrote as he drew the pages. I can see why this would frustrate a publisher hoping for a neat ending to tie up the 4th World epic in a single issue. Whatever Jack's original intent, he had to go where the story took him. Any hack writer could hand in a forgettable twenty page confrontation between Darkseid and Orion; Jack wasn't a hack. Jack was the most creative, inspired writer in the history of mainstream comics, so he gave them this and they didn't understand it. It is wonderful! :)
Doing a POV shot of the hero taking a shot at an unarmed opponent is pretty harsh stuff. But then holding that dying opponent in your arms and taking your helmet off to give them something human to look at in their last moments? Orion's got the compassion a genuine hero needs. What else would you expect from Kirby?
5:08 I was just thinking a similar thing except I wanted printed in the format they they did for the Hunger Dogs and Even Gods Must Die.
I see stuff like this and it makes me wonder what Kirby would've done with He-Man. Because Eternia is a world of magic and science and it just feels like maybe he would've channeled some sort of blend between The New Gods and Thor with it. Also Tom has one of the best voices I've ever heard for Darkseid.

I really, really hope you’ll consider covering the King’s 1970s run on Captain America and the Falcon. The best comics ever. Cap, blind and hospitalized by the Red Skull fights his deadliest battle, at the mercy of the Perfect Assassin, the Night Flyer. But wait! The Falcon cometh by air!
Not exactly the cosmic crunchiness you’re obviously inclined toward but a run that’s trippy as hell in its own right: Red Skull, Batroc, Arnim Zola, Doughboy, Agent 13, S.H.I.E.L.D. gadgets galore. Could lead right into Steranko’s run on Nick Fury, Agent of Shield. Second greatest comic ever.
Just to let you know I got your Star Warriors comic and I love it, even the Cyclone Burke was a nice treat. I have read it twice and will look at this many more times

I'm still scratching my head as to why it wasn't published. It's market is all the Kirby fans, 4th World Completists and art aficionados. It would have sold a bunch, definitely a money maker.
What were the actual real time sales in the 70s ? How did the 4th World stuff sell compared to Eternals?
Maybe TwoMorrows could do a solo release of this story in a different format?
WB/DC are still BRAINDEAD when it comes to Kirby's NEW GODS! If you have any pull with them PLEASE and I do mean PLEASE tell them to do a NEW GODS MOVIE! LIVE ACTION would be great, but imagine a company like PIXAR doing a NEW GODS TRILOGY, something like they did with THE INCREDIBLES! No COMEDIC/FUNNY stuff though, NEW GODS should be a SERIOUS, HARDCORE, EPIC, ACTION PACKED, COSMIC BATTLE between NEW GENESIS and APOKOLIPS!
