But "this" video is about the actual role of operations manager across a wide range of organisations and industries even if they don't call themselves that.

Everything you buy has come to you via operations managers. Your furniture, your laptop, your internet service, medical care, the water coming out of your tap, the amazon package you got delivered... Operations Managers were responsible for every one of these products and services - created and delivered under their design, planning and supervision.
Operations managers are responsible for designing, delivering, developing and directing the operations of an organisation be that a factory, restaurant, hospital, airport, in the armed forces or a law firm.
Designing - the processes, facilities, layouts and systems of the operations
Delivering - planning and controlling of the ongoing operations. Responsible for the results being achieved
Developing - improving the operations. Identifying opportunities, prioritizing, allocating resources and implementing them
Directing - medium / long term management - steering performance, preparing and adapting for the future

Iโve struggled to find a career that suits my personality. I want to be able to help people, contribute, create, organize and develop. I would appreciate doing this on a large scale and working with teams to create strategies and processes to make things easier, safer, reliable and efficient. I would go as far as to say I would appreciate having a part in creating new cities even. Operations management just seems like itโs suitable to my personality and I feel as though I would be genuinely happy doing something like this.
I think it could be a very good match indeed! Give it a go!
I just started taking my optional operations management module at uni, the only reason I chose it was because there is no seated formal exam attached to that particular assessment. However, I think I may have inadvertently discovered my future career path in the process. It so fits my personality too, I am dead set on learning as much as I can about this topic.
It's amazing that you genuinely care. This is the kind of thing I lie about to get a job. Never dawned on me that some people actually feel this way. I need to find a job I actually like.
Iโm highly analytical and inquisitive individual. Does that work with operations management ?
Everything...we do everything. That's all.. That's all you need to know. We do EVERYTHING!
is the pay good??
@@teddy.yellowbuckets Operation managers have the potential to make 6 figures
Ahahahaha. Spot on!
My learning is that it has a lot of purpose of being an operation management.
The purpose of Operation Management is to deliver the good quality value to customs or consumers. It has a core role, everything that we buy comes to operation management; food, technologies, services and etc. every product that we purchase is created, designed, and planned by an operation management. They are also responsible for designing, delivering, developing and directing of the operations of an organization.
There four major characteristics of an Operation management; First of all what does it mean to design things purposely? It actually means you need to take a step back and consider the narrative you want to offer about your company, what you stand for, your current clientele, and the kind of customers you want to draw in. Next is Delivering; it plans and control the ongoing operation, third is Developing; it manage the continuous improvement or enhancement of the agency and employees, well lastly is the Directing; it is the controller of all the ongoing operation inside and outside the agency. Viewing the performance, mandating what to do, changing resources.
I think youre on it! :)
I'm starting my career as an operations intern and I love it. It's just amazing that I have a lot of things to do all the time and can learn so many things. I still want to work in the financial department, but It's a great start position. Haha, the best part is that I am working in English. I have the chance to learn English while I work and earn money. This job will open many doors to my future, mainly because I work internationally.
Operations management experience, plus English, plus some business finance understanding.... you'll find more career options open to you than you can handle!

Iโm an operations manager @ flying flags. Itโs a very commanding but also rewarding job. Iโve been at it for 5 months now. I went here from AGM of a hotel to working at a resort with a supervisor role in between. Great videos on the role I watch all of them.
Do you need an MBA to get into this role or are there alternatives?

Absolutely amazing Presentation. I really enjoyed viewing your impartation of Knowledge.
I get confused about this because I'm a scheduler but some of what you're saying fits into my job like choosing resources be that systems or people, to get things done.
Scheduling is often a specific department or job role as in your case, but it also typically fits under the umbrella of the operations department / operations function. As a scheduler, you are a kind of operations manager, but also your own manager and their manager are also likely operations managers and scheduling forms a crucial part of the overall operations sucess.

Thatโs funny because Iโve always loved playing Rollercoaster Tycoon and The Sims. Now, Iโm a strong Event Operations Coordinator turned Complex Solution Specialist and Iโm being considered for a Supply Chain Specialist role. My father is also a strong [Engineer] project manager.
A childhood well spent! (That's what I keep telling myself anyway :)
Thanks Laurence!! lol i like the humor and the simple breakdown of the role or function the operations manager plays. It's all about systems!!

It's a great idea, please make more videos about this subject.

Hi Zenul. Glad you liked it!
Thank you for properly and clearly sharing important information about the function of an operations manager in a company.
We know that in a company there are different departments, the question is does each department need to appoint an Operations Manager and why?
Hi Estrada. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Companies structure their departments / divisions / teams very differently. "Operations" can often be considered to be one of the departments / functions of a business and would have a head operations managers (and likely other managers who are also by some definition operations managers too).
Other functions like marketing, finance, customer service will all have their own managers who manage the workings of those departments but are not typically called "operations" managers in the same way.
Often the distinction is that the primary value generating activity of the company is... For a marketing company who sell marketing services, then marketing could be said to be their primary operations. Whereas for a pencil factory, the marketing department is just a supporting function.
Most operations managers in the world dont even have that title but the skillset, management theory and attitude is of value whenever processes and resources must be managed to do something productive - whatever we call those job roles in a certain company.
Q
Absolutely brilliantly put. Thank you.

i do product management and operations management for my company. how do i tell people what i do? what kind of MBA can i do?
I have a question from 6:10, do you think i should start a different career before going into operations management ( like get promoted into the job) or can people actually go to varsity for operations management and go straight into applying for that post?
Good question! The path to operations management varies. Some start in a different field, gaining experience before transitioning. Others go straight from university. It depends on your goals and preferences. Both paths can lead to success in operations management; choose what suits you best.
By the way, I'd like to invite you to my free mini course in operations management.

Tell us about which MBA is a desk job ?
Is an Operations Management degree the same thing as an Industrial Management?
What is the difference between an old Industrial Management degree and what's being called Operations Management degree?
OM and IE are not the same but are very similar. Industrial Engineers provide a service to senior operations managers and typically work within the operations department /function.
Many would say that IE is a sub section of OM.
Industrial engineers only focus on designing, implementing and improving operations, systems / processes, whilst OM is an umbrella subject that covers all but OM is also primarily responsible for running the day-to-day operations. IE does not have any responsibility for the day-to-day running of the operations.
In then next month, I will be releasing an introductory course on Industrial Engineering so stay tuned :)

Thank you for the upload. What are the best certificates in operation management?
Many university business schools offer degrees / MBA based specifically on operations management and there are also many online degrees or "massive online open courses" (MOOCs). If you search MOOCs operations management on google you can find lots of providers.
I offer a variety of shorter video courses through my website RowtonsTraining.com including one specifically called "Operations Management A-Z" which is a 3hour online video training course.

Operation as Major and MIS as minor are nice combination in MBA ?
Operations and Management Information Systems certainly complement each other well. If you are taking and MBA I assume you are working towards a very senior role. Just beware that as you aspire to get more senior in an organisation, it is the higher level understanding and the interplay of the departments and systems that will matter more than deep knowledge of how to operate certain software packages.

hi. I'm from srilanka. i will have to select operation & technology management degree or administrative (special) degree for my bachelors degree in sri Jayewardenepura university. can you give any advice to me about two degree. Which one better for todays job market
Whilst I have no knowledge of those specific courses at your University, Im think the simple reputational value of having a degree in Ops and Technology management would be much greater than looking for jobs saying you have a degree in Administratio (however serious and sophisticated that particular course is).
