As an employer, I just want to say cheers to any new managers that are here watching this on their own volition. Make leadership, management, and communication your craft. The more you understand your responsibilities, the less burdensome they will be. You're already 1 step ahead simply by being here and learning how your role works. Many new managers aren't doing this and will fail but not you. Good for you!!
This! I'm not new to leadership, but I am new to management. The skills are different, and it always helps to brush up on, and learn new skills. I'm here for the latter
My boss is a great example of being able to trust. She will let people vent, visit with them, even end up friends with them. But she also makes the hard decisions and makes sure we all understand that she still has to be a boss.
As a manager or team lead, your team should come first and you should remember your responsibility for their well being as well as helping them meet business goals. It's very easy to simply become an executor of your bosses wishes and to let business goals be the only thing you're concerned with - this makes for a very poor manager and I've seen it time and again. Management often seems to forget that the people they're responsible for are people and this is one of the many things that ruins a job for someone. Take your teams opinions and needs into account in all your decisions because at the end of the day, they're what gives the company any worth.

Excellent advice! Each one is helpful in every field. What I hated about my last manager (before quitting and starting my own small business) was she went out of her way to lie and get the old manager fired, took her place, told lies about me even though I had 15 years more experience than her, eventually drove me out the door!! Not friends to this day, 2 years later. Can not befriend a backstabber!

I'm getting a second chance in management in the next week and will keep on my toes making sure I'm asking the right questions this time around. Also, I did try to be every body's friend while simultaneously being as fair and honest as possible. The ladder will do without the former. I’m currently assessing the company and determining how to approach my role. I find it challenging to assign tasks to colleagues who are much older than I am. Although I was hired as a technician, I have unexpectedly become a technical manager (AWP) for various reasons. I didn't question this change because I view it as both a challenge and an opportunity for growth. Your tips will be incredibly helpful, especially the "Knowing the Expectations" part. Thank you so much, Sir!
I’m about 3 months into my management promotion. I’d say the things I have struggled with the most are: -Finding a balance between being too lax or too strict. The last manager was very lax and it has caused many issues. They are not used to being “managed” and I don’t want to change things too quickly and have people quit. -Becoming a manager to people who were once my equals and friends. It makes things very awkward and sometimes incredibly difficult to reprimand. -As I said, the last manager was not good, and the mess I’ve been left has been incredibly stressful.
Thank you for sharing this. Yes, finding the right balance can be tricky. So is leading former colleagues and friends. Maybe this advice will help you. Being a leader is not about being popular but being respected. Don't shy away from unpopular decisions if you think that it is the right call. Maybe some team members will be upset at first. But over time they will respect you for that. As long as you act consistently and don't play favorites. I wish you much success in your new leadership role.
i'm a new manager that sees all these issues and this is exactly why i am getting through to my subordinates and upsetting my managers, because they thought because they are managers they must be obeyed and respected for their position, not their behavior. it's reassuring to know i'm doing something right and to know what to avoid to prevent conflicts! thank you

Thank you for this video. I struggle a lot with your last point on trying to be popular. I am naturally kind person who really tries to help as much as I can as a manager. However this mindset will help me achieve where I need to be one day. Thank you once again, future manager in the making .
Let me start by saying I am an ARAB MUSLIM and A WOMAN in usa. I had to mention these facts. I just got this management position. CONGRATS to me. However, the team cannot comprehend what's on TV is not what's inside the retail shop. They think I am a shapeshifter or something. I am a strong woman; I won't let myself be rolled over. I am the boss.
@@gun123456zak is not the first time being a manager, but every time the team finds out that their boss is a hijabi Arab WOMAN, it's hard for them to understand it.
You gave yourself a title, now whether others address that will either offend you or offend others. You should have listed your skills, instead of how you assume what others impression is of you. Your religion is irrelevant in most corporations and your sex as well. Most would say sexiest. I as a unit leader want the nost QUALIFIED.
Let me share a few tips for management trainees and potential managers as they seek to be promoted: understand the company culture, build relationships with your co-workers and customers, seek feedback from colleagues, show initiative and proactiveness, seek out mentors in your organization.
I'm a manager for the first time after only working there for six months. I'm very nervous and I'm pretty sure I was only promoted because they were short on managers and I happened to be a good worker. The thing is I have issues with telling people what to do. I'm a pushover and I know I'm tolerating way more than is okay. But I don't have the heart to be stern with people. I have workers who sit around or disappear while on the clock. If I were a manager of a better store it'd be easier. But I just so happened to become a manager of a place that was being on the verge of closing down. And the people they hire are always lazy, or high schoolers who honestly couldn't give a shit
Great video. In my first role as a manager of onshore and offshore resources in telecommunications and appreciate the non activism tip the most. There is alot to learn in the effective management space and I'm completely out of my comfort zone and from the comments can see I'm not alone. Keep up the great work! Liked +Subscribed 👍
I have read a few management books and talked to several other managers. I’m really happy to hear so much of what I have heard echoed in so many videos like this. You do a great job of sharing examples.
This will not be the 1st time for me becoming a manager but there's always room to learn and utilize the skills taught to build, a better team together
Mayden. Mayden, based in Bath in the UK, switched to a flat structure where "everyone would have an equal say in the life and direction of the company." Instead of managers there are 'volunteer internal peer coaches' who support their colleagues and help them find their own solutions.

9:13 cracks me up every time. "uh-huh, I see." Trying too hard to be liked and accepted would lead to a reaction like that.
This was exactly what I need to know for my start next week. Thank you a lot!
I enjoyed the video very much. Had alot of great information I need and help sharpen my leadership skills. I was offered a supervisor role but I didn’t accept as I was joining another company. However this mindset will help me achieve where I need to be one day. Thank you once again, future manager in the making .
Thanks, for taking time to consider and then post the video on 5 crucial tips on leadership.
Salute to a fellow Moroccan (?) first time manager!
@@gun123456zak is not the first time being a manager, but every time the team finds out that their boss is a hijabi Arab WOMAN, it's hard for them to understand it.
to be manager in the usa it'shard yes but you must to be strong fo your islam and for your life
You gave yourself a title, now whether others address that will either offend you or offend others. You should have listed your skills, instead of how you assume what others impression is of you. Your religion is irrelevant in most corporations and your sex as well. Most would say sexiest. I as a unit leader want the nost QUALIFIED.
And there is your problem
This is actually very good. The number of times I had to pause and go back testifies just how great the lessons are. Thank you
I was content with just being in our IT Department, then just like that i became the Marketing Manager.
Your videos are fantastic, you rock….great content…great energy…great examples…..
This is crucial tips for me as I will be manager next week. Thank you a lot.
A very straightforward advices, I would like to thank you for the simplicity and informative video.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this great information and tips❤ bcoz I'm the person who is starting a position as manager on Tomorrow onwards.
How is it going so far?
Just accepted my offer for store manager at a large grocery store chain! Cheers
Congratulations!
I wish i knew this earlier when i got first promoted, definitely real applicable advise in real situations👍
Looking for a video on this!
Thanks a lot. Glad it was helpful.
How you making out now?
Valuable video Mr Bernd Geropp
I have read a few management books and talked to several other managers. I’m really happy to hear so much of what I have heard echoed in so many videos like this. You do a great job of sharing examples.
Thanks
Such great advice.
I think being honest and transparent goes a long way with building good relationships.
didn't expect to wake up today taking management advice from christopher walken but here we are!
Congratutlations!
Love this it is one of the many hidden secrets of it all through others which is the whole foundation of it. all
I just got promoted myself. Thanks for the video
Great presentation Bernd, I thought of the same 5 things you outlined. I hope my next job advancement will allow me to utilize the skills and comments you included.
This video is exactly what I need. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks. You are welcome!
This is really important discussion for beginners and to all of us.need to learn more from you! Respect!
Fair and honest.thats the backbone right there
Hello Rebecca😊
The thing I struggle with is remembering that I'm the boss and not the employee
I think that a lot of people struggle with this. I plan to make a video about it!
Do not worry. I am also new to my management role, and this is also happening to me.
Same.
Bro that's litteraly the only thing I've struggling with right now is because im still having to do almost the same but I'm in shift lead. I will sometimes just go ahead and do what the other person is suppose to do because I want everything right but forget that I'm suppose to make sure he does it.
Mr. Bernd..i will practice your tips..thanks
Great! Best of luck.
😭😭😭 Why did it end. I want to hear more. 👏👏👏👏Thanx so much

Thanks nice vedio about leadership qualities
Actually what I learnt over the years in management roles, leading is about empowering team members and listening to them. But first thing mentioned here YOU SHOULD BE VERY CLEAR ABOUT YOUR ROLE
Good replay value will watch again.
Very good, very well iillustrated.it is not just the communication the thought process is very well presented
Thank you for your video, although I would like to point out that you often said “he” when referring to the boss/manager in your examples. I understand these examples are hypothetical but it’s important ensure women are also represented in these leadership roles.
Great video to new team leaders. All best to you Bernd.
Thank you!
My tips for a new manager are :
Learn the system and the national and international standards and laws which apply.
Be systematic, not situationalist.
Recognise the role of industrial democracy in promoting continual improvement.
Use your policy manual for training purposes.
Thank you for this. I was doing #3 and #5 in Retail and wasn’t doing #1 and wondering how I wasn’t performing well as management.
Hi... And Thanks.. that was a good head start for first few weeks to exercise these points..as a new manager i was supposed to do some changes bt nw i ll take my time to get more familiar to the wrk environment b4 doing so😇
Great job! Keep it up. You got this.
Really a good points you have shared . It's true that we must not speak bad about our predecessor.or about our previous job too for anyone
Just became shift manager at McDonald’s. Got promoted yesterday
Congratulations!
Thank you for this video. I have recently made a mistake in my first one month of being a senior personnel. How do I handle difficult people who work in a factory? Also my boss expects me to be proactive but I'm still learning the processes and the people around me? How do I make the right changes?
Take your time to learn and don’t rush into decisions. In most companies there are hidden agendas you need to know about before you make important decisions.
I really appreciate your explanation and your experience. Thank for your channel
So nice of you
Thank you for this. I feel more confident now and am less nervous about my interview on Wednesday. We shall see. Thank you!
