I'm working at a large chain pet store and just started my training in petcare. Your videos are educating me so much on proper aquarium keeping and I hope I can try and discourage certain stubborn customers when they reach for the 2.5 gallon tank for their 3 African cichlids
I’ve been keeping fish for 30 years. You can never learn too much. I wish I had you tube to watch back when I started. A lot of fish would have been spared! 💀🐠☠️
After watching this, I'm considering improving my betta fish's setup. I was thinking about going from a 10-gallon tank with a regular filter to a 20-gallon tank with a sponge filter. I kinda want to improve the aquascaping a bit, maybe by adding a carpeting plant. I might use the 10-gallon to make my younger cousin a cool fish tank as he likes whatever I like. I know some people will say "it's just a fish", but he's my fish.
That’s why I am getting into it, I already love plants and I love fish so I am gunna get some shrimp and some small neon fish not sure which ones yet. But I’m doing an 8 gallon set up and just wanna keep it small for now so I can get used to it and hopefully not run into any issues. I wanna have some excited fishes to see me haha
Just bought my toddler fish for Christmas. I didn’t realize it was this much work… but I’ve become obsessed. The store told me to get a 3gal tank for our betta. Then I researched and saw they needed 5gal minimum. 2 days later I bought a larger tank with more aqua scape and more currently researching how to get him to the new tank without shocking him (that how I ran across these videos). But yes the videos def pushed me to buy a bigger tank and it’s much prettier with everything in it! I think he will like it more!
I get so excited when we catch a glimpse of the lowboy molly tank! Your advice for new hobbyists is great, and I'd add one more tip: DON'T PANIC! It's easy when you first get into the hobby to see a detail or an element you've never seen before, immediately assume the worst, and start throwing meds/chemicals/radical water changes at something that's not actually a problem. It's a case of a little knowledge without experience being a potentially dangerous thing. Notice, observe, research, ask questions...but DON'T PANIC!
Your language and delivery is spot on! Love the clear, concise information! I Had tanks growing up 25 years ago ... just recently got into a 20ish gallon tank for my 2 daughters, transitioning away from 'artificial' decoration...just added 4 Nerite snails, few plants .. tank is looking amazing, having creator content as a resource now is indispensable!
I love being a newb! I want to be one forever as I like to learn and experience new things in the fish world! IN the old days a 20 gallon was for rich folks and what the heck was a hang on back? That is how long ago it was when I got my first tank!
I wanna give you a shout out for expressing the absolute importance of doing your research to give the fish the best life. Not only did it make me subscribe, but if and when I do get into this, I will be that much more vigilant and make sure these goobers have the best life possible.
Your presentation was very well organized and spoken. Thank you. I also learned a lot of crucial information that I will need for my first set up of an aquarium.
Just want to say “”THANK YOU!” I’m in the preliminary stages of considering whether or not I might want to keep fish (again- I had a couple in a 2-gallon tank years ago, and throughout my childhood I watched my dad keep an aquarium he enjoyed), and I can not tell you how helpful this video is in guiding me to do a personal inventory & reality check about my abilities, expectations, and preparedness. For the sake of the lives of the fish that are at stake when we humans make these pet-keeping decisions, I want to celebrate & thank you for this public service video! I’m going to peep your other videos as I continue to evaluate whether or not fish keeping is REALLY something I can accept responsibility for at this time in my current home space. All the best to you, and thanks again for sharing/educating!!💐💐💐
I just found your videos while trying to solve a ammonia spike with my new tank! My wife and I are doing a 3 month run before going to a 55+ gallon setup. Just lost my 3 bloody Mary shrimp due to ammonia spike, but my guppies and mollies seems to be pushing through. Just ordered a filter sponge. First tanks setup I've had in 20 years and my 7yo daughter absolutely loves watching the fish doing their things
Am getting closer to the "one year in the hobby" mark. And i must say, half of the mistakes i made during this year would have been avoided if i had done more research and had more patience. Those are indeed the tow most important things to keep in mind when it comes to fishkeeping.
Thank you! I’ve been thinking about getting some fish for a while but wasn’t comfortable with the fact that I knew NOTHING! This really helped a lot, thank you!!
Very good and informative and you really explain it clearly. I've wanted an aquarium for.. years (marine biologist), but finally have a house and the space. Will be looking at the rest of your videos. Thank you!
We used to have a fish tank years ago, it was too much work so we sold it. I remember me and my cat loving to watch the fish, I’ve been considering for a while now to get a new tank. I’m doing some serious research and put up as much knowledge as I can. It’s gonna be a expensive hobby but I think it will be worth it!
Your videos have been a great source of information to me since I'm new to the hobby as of April 2020. Before setting up my aquarium I called our local water authority and talked to their chemist about the type of disinfectant they use, which is chlorine only. Ken, their chemist, spent some time talking with me about our local water parameters such as pH, dissolved minerals, salinity, turbidity, etc. I live roughly six miles from the southern shore of Lake Ontario which is our water source. It was a very educational discussion. I would suggest hobbyist consider calling their local water authority. They may reach out to talk to you. Happy Holidays, Dan
This was a great video. Before I bought my 150 and 90 gallon I knew I wanted to keep my wet pets like discus as you probably remember. I did ALOT of research on how to keep them. I learned with these fish they need more TLC. I was on YOU TUBE collecting all the information I could possibly get. I was also honest with myself whether I would have time to dedicate to maintain them. You keep me learning about fish care, filtration and so much MORE. I put my tanks right in front of my couch and out of direct sun light. I never mentioned the glass fish you got are cool.😎
Thank you for your "itemized list "that anyone's honest answers and personal introspection WILL separate them from being one who IS READY to be in the hobby as opposed to one who is merely suffering from a "WHIM." This IS one endeavor that IS NOT A "CHEAP PURSUIT" in regards to time ,energy, and financial resources !
I made the mistake of playing the golfish game at the fair thinking I would win one and keep it in a small tank at home. I guess because it was the last night of the fair and I didnt go to pick the fish up until 2 minutes before close, they lady gave me 10 fish. I told her I've never owned a fish and dont have anything at home for them but she put them all in the bag anyway 😭 luckily Walmart was still open and i was able to get a fish tank and food, but I really had no idea what to get and only bought a 10 gallon tank. I've been researching like crazy and I know thats NOT big enough for 10 goldfish. My brother in law gave me his old 6 gallon one and it's priming right now, I'm gonna move 2 of them to that tank tomorrow. I know a 6 gallon tank isn't big enough for a goldfish but I am not a rich woman and I cannot give these fish away to save my life. I absolutely love watching them though and I'm so excited to learn about aquascaping a beautiful environment for them. I have a 75 gallon tank on my Christmas list, god willing and I'll turn the 6 gallon and 10 gallon tanks into beta fish tanks 🤞🏻
Great information! Your videos are so helpful! Can’t wait for the next one! :) My fiancé said that once I master my 5 gallon betta tank, I can upgrade! So far, so good! I’ve really been enjoying the hobby so far! My dream tank would be to keep some Celestial Pearl Danios someday...wish me luck! ;P
Thanks for talking about child safety on an unstable surface. My son now 16 was trying to rock my tank stands when he was about 2. The visual I got from this made me get out of aquariums for quite some time! I’m back but that vision haunted me.
I was researching care for an axolotl because I really want one as a pet. I realized they're very complicated and I have no where near the knowledge I need to have one. Instead of making an animal suffer because of my ignorance, I'm gonna start from the ground up with a beginner tank. Hopefully one day I'll have enough knowledge to be able to care for one!
In the 80s I had a big interest in aquatics so I read every piece of text that came onto the public domain with reading every fish book in library's near and far but still within the UK even visited sales so I could speak with others with the same interests as I but over the years a;d habitats I stopped but still kept an interest, and last month out of the blue a carer mentioned about her tropical tank and setup within earshot of me so we began talking fish and water paramiters to which she realized I'm not just a name or face and she sparked my interest again and this is why I'm on the net picking at fish topics educationally with UA-cam for visual help something not available in the 80s.
Great Video , I love your channel 😁Even tho I have currently alot of tanks , love watching your videos to get even more information 🤓I'm loving the hobby even more as I get deeper into😇
I have no pations, and time, but I'll start my way from research and youth videos. U seems like a cool chill dude. I got my mother in law fish tank and now it's on me to clean it)))
The beginning fishkeepers of today, have got it made🙂 starting keeping fish in the 70s with no internet like we did at least for me, was trial and error. Excellent video as always! Even old dogs like me learn a lot with the right instructor 👍🏻
That's better for the fish too. Easy access to knowledge on the internet should negate mistakes that may been more common before the Google age. Acclimatizing new fish is one example. How many new hobbyists knew then that you have to float bag on surface for half hour to avoid thermal shock and gradually add water to bag to avoid nitrate shock. on the new fish? Most know now thanks to Google
I been keeping fish for nearly two years I made a lot of mistakes and I still do but not that many I keep live-bearers and taking care of the fry is the most fun I've ever had doing anything and being only 28 I see myself doing this for along time
Im 28 and just set up my first tank after taking care of my father's while being away and have fallen in love. I keep live plants such as orchids and what not. This just co insides with all the things that you need to know to be successful. I try to learn it all if I can! Can't wait for my future tank having self as well
I just bought a 55 gallon tank, used of course. I also have a 10 gallon that I'm experiencing with the dirt bottom/sand. I'm new to this so I don't know which method is best. I do like the idea of a all natural system that can take care of itself. I know it will take a long time to get to that point. I'm retired so I will have time to put in to this. For the past 34 years I didn't have time because I was a truck driver.
This is a great video and what a wonderful resource for somebody coming into the aquarium hobby or even somebody who's had tanks and is wanting to set up a new one like myself! I agree a 10 gallon is a great starting point and usually very affordable. Plus it gives someone an opportunity to set up a really nice planted tank 😁 with some easy low light plants!! Always the best tips and education with dealing with our aquariums on UA-cam.... Prime Time Aquatics!! You guys rock!! Have a very blessed day! 🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
I also suggest that new fish keepers consider the longevity of a fish breed. Some only live a couple of years while others live for 20 plus years, that's older than most dog breeds. If you can't see yourself spending 10 plus years looking at the same fish then you might want to choose something with a shorter span. I know in this hobby it is "normal" to trade off fish or rehome them, it's just not in my nature.
planning on getting a 20 gallon tank set up in my room this will be my first time but i’ve always wanted to do this since i was a kid i am super dedicated to have this as my side hobby other than my car lmao trying to take in as much information as possible!!
Wow still learning beginner stuff thanks Jason I struggle with maintaining 82 degrees in my 20 high. Didn’t consider it being at the back door would be an issue. It sits right at our back door with heavy traffic
Great channel. May I make a suggestion? Throughout the vid are cools aquariums, like at the 6:35 mark. Would love to know the names of some of the plants and fish in them. Cheers!
Thanks a lot, I'm starting with a low tech 60lt tank just added good quality sand and filter and researching what plants and fish will I keep. Nice vids!
I just bought 2.5 gal fish tank literally just now. Didnt know its not beginner friendly, this would be my 1st time doing this. I just want goldfish in the house since no hairy pets allowed in condo unit. Subscribed so I would know how to maintain my fish and fish tank.
My attempt was with rainbow 'sharks' that my local store said were beginner fish. Get the tank setup and the fish settled in. Once they started fighting i did my own research, finding their super territorial and need large tanks for two or more. Upgrade my tank, the whole 9 yards for a 40 gallon tank, before one pushed yhe other out still before the other died a week later.
Love your videos. Just retired and looking into setting up a 55 gallon. Got the tank from Petco. Almost finished the stand, 2X4s. Now I need to find everything else. My town dose not have a local fish shop. Is it a good idea to by fish form the internet?
If your local Petco does not have the fish you want, and you don't have any local fish stores, yes you can buy fish from the internet. Just make sure they have good reviews, have live arrival guarantees, and use heat packs/cold packs depending on the season. No matter where you get fish from though, quarantining is a great idea! Good luck on your 55 gallon, and keep us posted!

Thank you!
Dude knows more about aquarium maintenance and fish care than i could hope to learn in a thousand lifetimes. Excellent series of vids.
Thank you for being here!
love how he starts off his videos with the biggest flex known to fishkeepers
And what’s that? Number of tanks?
After watching this, I'm considering improving my betta fish's setup. I was thinking about going from a 10-gallon tank with a regular filter to a 20-gallon tank with a sponge filter. Been keeping fish for about 3 months, started with 12 now only 4 left. Got alot to learn thank you for the advice.

Great Video , I love your channel 😁Even tho I have currently alot of tanks , love watching your videos to get even more information 🤓I'm loving the hobby even more as I get deeper into😇
Thank you so much for this series! It’s so helpful for a new fish owner like me :) 😊
Glad you are here!
Thank you for a helpful video - will be watching your other videos too
I have no pations, and time, but I'll start my way from research and youth videos. U seems like a cool chill dude. I got my mother in law fish tank and now it's on me to clean it)))
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for this kind sir. Your very informative!!
Awesome video! Looking forward to the rest of the series. 🐟
Thank you!
The beginning fishkeepers of today, have got it made🙂 starting keeping fish in the 70s with no internet like we did at least for me, was trial and error. Excellent video as always! Even old dogs like me learn a lot with the right instructor 👍🏻
I remember those days too. Man I had some weird fish combos. :-)
This is going to be so helpful! My family is thinking of getting fish, and don’t know how to take care of fish.
You're in the right place. Have fun!
Excellent thank you. Just what l needed to watch as I’m considering acquiring a fish tank. Best wishes and take care, from Rob, United Kingdom
I been keeping fish for nearly two years I made a lot of mistakes and I still do but not that many I keep live-bearers and taking care of the fry is the most fun I've ever had doing anything and being only 28 I see myself doing this for along time
Same. I got into the hobby 2 years ago and I’m now 30. Out of all my hobbies this is the one I would keep if i had to drop everything else.
Im 28 and just set up my first tank after taking care of my father's while being away and have fallen in love. I keep live plants such as orchids and what not. This just co insides with all the things that you need to know to be successful. I try to learn it all if I can! Can't wait for my future tank having self as well
Here's another nice one from you!! Thanks for sharing😘
Thank you!
Always great information 👍🏻
I just bought a 55 gallon tank, used of course. I also have a 10 gallon that I'm experiencing with the dirt bottom/sand. I'm new to this so I don't know which method is best. I do like the idea of a all natural system that can take care of itself. I know it will take a long time to get to that point. I'm retired so I will have time to put in to this.
For the past 34 years I didn't have time because I was a truck driver.
Happy I watch this video
This is a great video and what a wonderful resource for somebody coming into the aquarium hobby or even somebody who's had tanks and is wanting to set up a new one like myself!
I agree a 10 gallon is a great starting point and usually very affordable. Plus it gives someone an opportunity to set up a really nice planted tank 😁 with some easy low light plants!!
Always the best tips and education with dealing with our aquariums on UA-cam....
Prime Time Aquatics!! You guys rock!!
Have a very blessed day! 🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
Thank you! Appreciate it!
I also suggest that new fish keepers consider the longevity of a fish breed. Some only live a couple of years while others live for 20 plus years, that's older than most dog breeds. If you can't see yourself spending 10 plus years looking at the same fish then you might want to choose something with a shorter span. I know in this hobby it is "normal" to trade off fish or rehome them, it's just not in my nature.
great brief! thanks!
i'm new to this and i would get myself a fish tank this year and this guide is helpful
Cool - have fun!
Very helpful thank you
planning on getting a 20 gallon tank set up in my room this will be my first time but i’ve always wanted to do this since i was a kid i am super dedicated to have this as my side hobby other than my car lmao trying to take in as much information as possible!!
Good job redoing your older videos hope to see more!
Thank you! Ya, some just need an update. :-)
Thank you for the terrific video.
Wow still learning beginner stuff thanks Jason I struggle with maintaining 82 degrees in my 20 high. Didn’t consider it being at the back door would be an issue. It sits right at our back door with heavy traffic
I'm watching this because part of me is not sure what I would like, this is so informative.
You are WAY ahead of the game! :-)
good talk! i'm not a novice but you give me some ideas
Great video 👍
Thank you!
I’m new and I’m getting a 10gallon tank 🎉 I have a idea for my fish can’t wait to enjoy them watching a little tv
Thank you sir.
mad credentials instant sub. great video looking forward to my new hobby
Thank you for being here!
Great information. It's good to know, no matter what level you're at. Very impressive credentials as well!
Great channel. May I make a suggestion? Throughout the vid are cools aquariums, like at the 6:35 mark. Would love to know the names of some of the plants and fish in them. Cheers!
Best beginners video on UA-cam. Truly excellent. Simple, clear and detailed. Thank you!
Thank you!
Thanks for asking to subscribe at the end of the video vs taking to long to get to the point! Great video
Glad you are here. For a 2.5 gallon maybe try a betta instead? The goldfish can get huge! :-)
Thanks bud 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Came here to educate my friend, she's keeping multiple koi(baby koi) in a fishbowl with no filter😭
Glad you are here!
Did she not do ANY research at all???
thank you much appreciated
Super
Best video ever
Good series for all
😎😎😎
Thank you
Lol iv been keeping fish for 15years bro but this is still an interesting video well done
I guess I'm too lazy, I'll just keep using the 4k fishtank video on youtube as my virtual fishtank 😁
I wish there was a plug in fake aquarium with lights and sounds and moving fish
