Rodney Crowell is one of those artists who towers below the radar. Just fantastic.

Rodney: "I wouldn't presume that my career would be worthy of anybody's attention" Is he kidding. I'm just amazed at the humility of this Man. I could listen to his music for hours. It's real, honest, and from the heart and experience of life. He is probably the closest to Merle Haggard, in his down to earth style.

How am I just hearing this? What a true gift to this chaotic world this human brings with his music! Thank you, thank you, thank you for having the courage to be a real artist.

I had no idea Rodney was such a fine guitar player. It's as if he gets out of the way and lets the guitar sing with its own voice. I'm not surprised really, the man is a master.

So glad I had the honor of meeting Rodney recently... Got a lot of catching up to do, as he said he has written a lot of songs since Ieft...I spent 40 years in Connecticut, raising two boys, pretty much alone and working hard [not a lot of music time]. Good to be me, retired back home in Tennessee.

Great writing, great playing, great sense of melody - just found out about this guy. Fretboard Journal has been my favorite UA-cam channel for a while now and will probably stay that way!

Great interview thoughtful, especially like his description and explanation between song writing and book writing. Great performance, nice Gibson 00.

I’ve always wanted to hear about his collaboration with Steve Lukather on Hate Everything About You. How did that come about?

Wonderful though the sound at the Tiny Desk concert is better, there is some distortion coming from the guitar mike but easy to ignore with such beautiful songs. Now that I'm retired I can go find him rather than wait for him to come to Atlanta. The Outsider album is a truly electric Rodney at his best.

What kind of capo is he using? I have an L 1 and that neck is a tree trunk. I'd love to learn what he's using.

65 years you had to use finger picks like all the cool folk singers except I never liked them and didn't use them and still don't. Finally, finally I feel vindicated so many top pickers like Rodney and Mark Knopfler and Vic Gill pick with bare fingers. Rodney and Emmylou have always played Gibsons. It's interested that he's on a Martin show mostly touting Gibsons.
