I'm a 75 year old Scot, and I feel truly blessed to have grown up listening to wonderful, awesome lady singers like Brenda Lee, her voice was unique, and there will never, ever be another Brenda Lee 💜🙏🏴
"The little girl with the big voice." Brenda Lee was only 15-years old when she sang this classic ballad. Just to see her self confidence on the stage and hear her incredible depth of feeling and amazing voice at this young age still makes me shake my head in disbelief. No girl singers today have this kind of technique, their voices are all thin and contrived. When will we ever see her like again??
Brenda Lee I was 14 when I heard her she beautiful emotion s go with her emotional her beautiful voice and all her songs just captures your heart she never dies in my heart especially now that Iam a widow I totally love her❤
The good old days.i am a French Canadian lady born 1944.I meet my husband in Year 1961 he just broke up with his girlfriend and she would call him and play Brenda Lee The song I am sorry so sorry. But he pick his French girl that me. My husband was Jewish. In those days that was not easy. But we got married. After 45years of marriage He pass away from cancer he was only 65years old. Every time I hear the song I am I think how I was lucky. That he married me. We wore in Love. And still in Love. Will never get married again. 💞💞
This is the song of Manos Hatzidakis. The original song was title " Min ton rotas ton ourano" , " ask not the sky", and if you find the translation of the lyrics you will see how astonishing they are!
All of us who have heard this beautiful little woman sing will never forget her. Such a powerful beautiful voice comes out. One of the best female vocalist to ever record music.
There are no words to describe what a powerful voice this woman has/had. Little Miss Dynamite was/is a very apt name for her. She was just 12 years old when she had her first hit. A true talent to my mind.
I wanted to marry Brenda when I was 14, I live in Ireland her in America so that dream never happened but I got to see her and meet her in both countries, best female singer ever and a lovely lady as well. ❤
Having been born in 1950 I feel the singers back in the 50 and 60"s were the most talented and could not be compared to the auto tune wannabes of today .
It's unbelievable how strong her voice was at such a young age. Truly a prodigy and thankfully she's still alive and didn't fall prey to all the issues that destroyed so many child stars.
Great performance! She's been singing since age 11. She had good people managing her career, to keep her from drugs, alcohol etc.: Her mother, Red Foley, Owen Bradley; good support from her record company (treated her like a friend/family, not as a product. Brenda doesn't work as much these days, but stays busy with family and friends, hold bible studies at her home every Wednesday, and does a lot of other activities. I met her a number of years ago---a truly wonderful, kind person.
Pure talent. No electronic modulation, no electronic echo chamber, no electronic enhancement other than amplification. Absolutely no fake anything. Just beautiful, unadulterated talent. Today all we get are talented "marketeers" pushing non-talented wannabees.
Im 28 years old i grew up with music like this since i was a baby now today i only listen to the 50s through the 70s music if i ever have a son im going to pass on this music just like my dad did to me
Isn't this just perfect? I'm English and collected all Brenda's singles back in the day, they still affect me now. Her songs often mirrored my young life and helped me through it, I felt we cried together! Thank you for posting, forever a fan of Brenda Lee and her beautiful voice.
@@SeaBreeze2247 I must add though, 'I Want To Be Wanted' probably changed the course of my life. Those words always came into my mind during courtship years: 'Someone I know I'd love to spend a million years with'. Still looking!!!

I am so used to seeing singers lip-synching songs on "American Bandstand" that I didn't realize that the Ed Sullivan show had an actual orchestra playing. Needless to say, Miss Brenda Lee was NOT lip-synching this song. Tremendous!

Thank you for this great performance! "All Alone Am I" charted at #3 on the Hot 100, #1 Adult Contemporary and #7 on the UK Singles Chart, and remains one of Brenda Lee's most enduring and beautiful songs. "All Alone Am I" started out as a Greek song entitled "Μην τον ρωτάς τον ουρανό", was re-written, and English lyrics were composed, but much of the haunting melody was used from the original. It is certainly one of my favorite Brenda Lee songs, and this is a fantastic rendition on the Sullivan show!
It was more or less unnoticed at the time, but some of BL's big hits were European songs with new English lyrics. "I Want To Be Wanted" was the Italian "Per Tutta la Vita" from the San Remo song contest in 1959. English lyrics by Kim Gannon. "Losing You" was a French tune with English lyrics by Carl Sigman. "All Alone Am I" is by the famous Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis for the film known as "Island of Brave" (1959) in English. Originally recorded in Greek by Tzeni (Jenny) Karezi. Legend has it that Hadjidakis was late getting to work on the assignment and went to Karezi's home and more or less composed the tune on the spot on her piano. English lyrics by Arthur Altman.
In 1967 this wonderful lady came to our base in Thailand, Korat Royal Thai Air Base to sing for us GI's. It was a night this old man will never forget, she was such a great touch of home for us home sick GI's. Thank you Brenda!
I remember this song and Brenda playing on the radio around the time my uncle Felix died. She said everything my ten-year-old heart was feeling. He was a police Captain, and a great man. I will always love Brenda Lee.
Tremendous stage presence, she must have been about 19 back then, but she must have had some experience by then. Strong voice but well controlled, very nice.
Her voice singing that song has been playing in my head for the last 65 years.. having lost the love of my life in 1968 I'm now 75 and that song still makes me cry

One of the great female voices of the 20th century along with Ella Fitzgerald, Karen Carpenter, Billie Holiday etc; She was literally a child singing with the power of an adult
