Oda has played with this idea before - we thought Arlong was pure evil and then we saw his point of view.
We saw some Mjosgard's point of view as well to make him more relatable.
Perhaps Imu will also get something to recontextualise himself?
I'm certain that Luffy will end up having the saddest backstory flashback by the end of the series.
If the stairs beat Mihawk then Zorro's goal is now to be stronger than the stairs.
Better yet, his goal becomes to destroy every set of stairs in the world; he goes from minority hunter to stairs hunter.
Down D Stairs is too powerful, especially with umbrellas.

There was actually a really good fanfic I read a while back where Sanji made the choice to remove his emotions during the fight with Queen and ends up winning, but then has to deal with no emotions afterwards and how he and the crew interact in the aftermath. It may have made me cry a few times. Talk about tragic. orz

The chaotic ending of Merphy's fanfiction is something I didn't know I needed in my life, but now that I have it, it's so much better. And I can't believe it all started with Mihawk being low-diffed by Down D. Stairs.

But our protagonist is a regular normal competent marine but not over powered and he struggles to protect some civilians here and there from pirates but sometimes bad things really happen and cities are indeed raided and all sort of violence and crimes really occur

When Vivi Joins, I want Brook to go from fawning over her to being absolutely disgusted with her upon learning she tried to kill Laboon. He storms off if a hoof, saying he doesn't even want to see /her panties. Then after a whole arc, she redeems herself, and Brook forgives her, and finally asks to see her panties. The arc ends with Nami, Robin and Vivi happily wail on him like out of a sitcom.
No, it ends with Vivi actually showing Brook her panties, and they end up together.

the emergency rations joke really could come full circle as just another joke. with a scene of chopper and crew being stranded somewhere and him coming to realize that this is the moment where it happens, the moment he's always feared. but he resigns himself to his crew, goes giant form, puts his leg up on something and reluctantly asks zoro to cut it off. zoro just flat out like "dude no im not doing that"
Zoro would then proceed to cut his own legs of.
He'd probably think of the same solution only that he would rather sacrifice himself.

I actually kind of love the Mihawk dying by falling down the stairs take. It makes Zoro realise that his pursuit of strength is ultimately meaningless because we all must face up against our own mortality in the end. And this is what steers him towards what was always the most important thing; human connection. It was his connection to Kuini that kept his passion burning, and now it is his dedication to his crew.
And then he goes and starts a ramp company and replaces all stairs he comes across with ramps, because that's the only way he can defeat stairs.
In a more serious tone, what if Mihawk DOES die before Zoro can beat him? It doesn't have to be from falling down the stairs - maybe someone gets in a lucky shot or he drowns or something? Hell, what if he doesn't even die but gets crippled in some way so he can no longer be the best? It'd be an interesting thing for Zoro to have to deal with.

Spandam is pretty good character. He together with Lucci is a contrast to Luffy on the topic of leadership, because the entire Water 7 - Enies Lobby story arc for Luffy was about leadership and what it means to be a captain. Luffy finds his answer in strength, just like he said in the Arlong park, he can't do million things in which he relies on his crew, but one thing he can do is to beat the big evil guy when they cannot. In Enies Lobby Luffy decides that for him to be a captain it means to be the shield for his crew, to protect them from all the guys they can not beat, and that's why he develops gear 2.
Spandam, on the other hand, is the opposite. He is weak, has 0 respect from his subordinates, and EL is the first major arc where Luffy has to fight a subordinate of the villain (Lucci) instead of the actual villain (Spandam). By the end of their fight even Lucci acknowledges Luffy as a worthy leader and compares him to Spandam, taking it full circle.
Spandam, Ceasar, and Foxy are all better villans than Dofi because they actually do the thing villans are supposed to do: make the audience hate them and want their demise. Dofi just has too much drip, everyone just thinks that he's to smexy to die.
I hope he and fake Robin finds love.

Yeah. It also got a bad reputation because the anime put more challenges as filler. Foxy is not that bad, and a breather arc in between massive ones is always welcome.
The anime dragged it out a lot, and added another arc about foxy. He is good, he just, too much

After all the fallout of this hypothetical situation, Luffy decides that people having absolute freedom maybe isn’t such a good idea, and that maybe there should be some rules. He realises Garp was right all along, so abandons being a pirate and instead joins the marines, serving directly under Koby (actually, he’s 3rd in command. Helmeppo is Koby’s first mate)
I agree with the take that Oda power scales based on vibes > feats, but the agenda pushing is still fun. As for that last take about Blackbeard winning, I'm of the mind that the Yonko will both make it to Laugh Tale and will acheive at least one of their goals or dreams. So even with Luffy becoming PK, Buggy, Shanks and Blackbeard will get something out of it for themselves.
The fandom certainly scales on vibes. Most of the cast are a lot closer in strength than people realize.
Though their are some clear tiers like East Blue Coby has no prayer of facing Kaido, a lot of the differences are exaggerated both in-universe and out.
It's a popular theory that we are hearing Usopp tell the story of One Piece, but what if he is telling a lie? Then Merphy's fan fiction of the crew's demise could have been the reality, while Usopp gets away and tells the story of what he dreamed would happen.

This makes sense cause he broke Buggy's heart when he put the search for the one piece on hold. Buggy will be the character that takes Shanks place and saves Luffy from a Shanks sneak attack and clash equally with him, it's gonna be juicy and filled with drama. Buggy as the ultimate Roger stan will be enraged at the betrayal you know?
I think Shanks should be a good guy because otherwise, his character would not make much sense. But I think many people would unironically want this plottwist.
Spandam might actually be deep and philosophical. At the very least he is well written. He is exactly the character he is supposed to be with no deviation. He is basically like luffy, he knows what he wants and he’s gonna go for it, he just uses other’s strength and deplorable methods.

Ever since Oda decided that Chopper is cute merch and not a character anymore he's been totally redundant on the crew. They don't need a doctor in a world where no one dies.
Honestly I feel that. In turn for more exciting stories we got less intercrew drama. Like needing to find a doctor cause someone is sick.
They don't die because they have a doctor. They wouldn't have gotten to WC to rescue Sanji nor to Wano if Chopper didn't help cure the Minks. Luffy and multiple samurai would have died in Udon due to Queen's plague. Even in Onigashima, without Chopper Zoro would have been out of it earlier on since it was Chopper's injection that healed him enough to face King.
Punk Hazard Chopper is goated tho.
Not going to lie a part of me kind of wouldn't mind seeing Merphy playing Perona in the live action just to see how well she could pull off the shocked face when Ussop informs her of his clinical depression after her ghosts fail.
The only one I want to join before it’s all said and done is Vivi. I believe that’s what they’re going for too. With Cobras death and Vivi on the run it really is the perfect time. It’s not like she isn’t a straw hat already. Remember it’s, “I have to stay here but if we ever meet again will you still call me your ‘nakama?’” Not “Sorry guys bye. See you never.” A reunion was always in the works the only question was how long it would take.
Also, regarding scabbards.
I agree that Denjiro's arc was pretty bad at the end. But you could say something similar about all of the scabbards. You could easily combine them all into three or four strong characters, but we needed them to be nine, apparently.
Ashura had his few strong emotional moments, then just disappeared from the story, only appearing as collective being that was "nine red scabbards"

His dynamic and friendship with the scrabbard that got most time to grow with.
He got to be relevant in saving odens daughter and raise her as spy.
He got to have a great cunning moment.
He with the minks chefs and a character we folloe a lot over arcs, gets probably the best showcase as characters.
I like Denjiro too, but he could easily be combined with Kawamatsu or even Kikunojo, and not much of value would be lost really.
Denjiro, Kinemon, Ashura and Kanjuro are one of the strongest scabbards personality and story relevance wise, and I'm putting Kanjuro there only because he ended up being the traitor.
Mink rulers could easily be combined into one character, they rarely exist as truly separate entities from each other that do something other one would never do, thus making them interchangeable.
I love most scabbards...
But we don't have enough time to invest in making all of them feel relevant, important and memorable for everyone.

Foxy’s arc is one of my favorite in the series. It was actually my first exposure to one piece and I really enjoyed the humor of it, so after seeing that I decided to go back and read from the beginning

A bad (but cool) take I saw on Reddit - After Zoro becomes the greatest swordsman he will go to Ivankov and ask him to turn him into a female, this will be his last gratitude to Kuina.
Then she will marry Sanji and give birth to so many blue haired kids. After 10 kids,Sanji sees them all and says “They are all-blue” and realises he achieved his dream. He uses his kids as cooking ingredients and everyone lives happily ever after.

10:05 100% One Piece just has vibes based powerscaling, which is why serious discussions about who would win and who's "Yonko Commander" level all kinda silly. It's pretty clear Oda makes character's as strong as they need to be for the story he wants to tell in the moment.
And I love it that way. Power levels are always weird in shonen and some storys get ruined over hard numbers on power scaling. Also with how diverse power sets are in One Piece there will always be situations where a Kizaru is better than a Kaido and vice versa. Power scaling them rarely makes sense.

Zoro doesn't actually get lost, he's just purposefully looking for a way to get to his destination without encountering stairs (or he'll have a panic attack and ptsd flashbacks).
I never really thought about it before, but Zoro and Nami do have a dynamic that is pretty fun to watch in a romance anime. Bumbling idiot and too serious. They’re also both heavy drinkers, which is fun.
Wierd take, but I always shipped Robin with Luffy in my head; I think some would ship her with Franky. I just think back on all the times Luffy would make a wild choice and the crew would be shouting “Why?!” And Robin would just laugh and smile and just accept Luffy’s decision wholeheartedly. Also the scene in Sabaody where Kuma is attacking the crew and Robin is the last one, and Luffy and Robin scream eachother’s names.
I think if it comes down to it, Sanji will actually end up with Pudding.
I actually completely unironically thought Zoro and Nami would make a good couple in the early anime. Not that I really believed it would happen, but they had really good chemistry. It kind of got watered down after they entered the grand line and more and more characters and dynamics got added and I definitely don’t believe it will ever happen…but I was aboard that train for a bit there
I'm not the only one to say it, naturally, but Vivi is part of the crew. Once a crew member, forever a crew member. Someday you'll start the long, pleasant journey that is the anime and be amazed at Vivi having her own eyecatch wanted poster. And personal jingle, like everyone else. (Actually Karoo's on it too.) Yeah it's all been said before, but it must never be forgotten.

I think Imu should be revealed to not be imortal (from laws fruit) and instead have it revealed it was actually Foxy, and give him a tragic backstory of why he's continued the Davy back fights for hundreds of years.. just for good measure :)

Oda is writing a fun pirate comic, not a D&D campaign.
It has to fit into the realm of plausibility (like Zoro could not have beaten Mihawk at Baratie at that point in his journey, no matter what).
Haki is only strong because it's tied to willpower, which basically means "I want it more, and I'm more determined"
Back to Zoro, he needed that loss to build his determination upon, and physical strength comes after determination.

One minor add-on to the lovely theory that has been born here:
Brook is at the verge of breaking seeing all his crew leaving him for a second time, but that wouldn't be enough to lose hope just yet since he still has one nakama left... that's right, Laboon dies as collateral damage of the Luffy vs Jimbei fight (also the conclusion of Luffy returning to be Laboon's enemy), pushing him to join forces with the only DF user who could amplify his powers, allowing him to send all his fans to the afterlife after listening to his new death metal band playing the magnum opus of Brook's creational lyric: a requiem for the entire world, leaving him to wonder the seas all alone once more, finally at peace.

I don't know if you have read the Daevabad Trilogy Series but I highly recommend it if you haven't. I know you have read the first one (The City Of Brass) as you have mentioned it in one of your videos but the series has much more to offer in the next two books.

At the end of the story, Zoro gets turned into a woman by ivankov or Doc Q, this makes the world's strongest swordsman a woman fulfilling Kuina's dream. This makes Sanji admit that he can't beat Zoro in a fight because hes a woman now.

I have a depressing take. At the end of the series all the strawhats die except for Usopp. He spends the rest of his life telling the tales of his crew but no one ever believes him because Imu wiped Luffy and Co from history.
My late bad take is that fake out deaths do a lot for the story. The better the fake out death, the more joy you feel when a character turns out to have survived. They make me so sad each time they happen and then so overjoyed when a character comes back to life. Like Pound. I'm so glad that he survived, despite his fake out death being so well done.

This is only a bad take beacuse of your reasoning imo. Oda loves to eat his cake and have it too, both in terms of character deaths but also in fights. He will sometimes ignore pre established or logical facts to make things more hype/dramatic.

Bad Take - Kuina didn't die by "falling down the stair" the die by falling to "Dawn D. Stares" which is wondering swordsman who also seeks to becomes the worlds greatest swordsman in his travels he comes across Kuina who at the time was the strongest in her dojo. Zoro will then come face to face with Dawn D. Stares after his fight with Mihawk.

A development I've thought of is that Buggy gaining the determination to once again go after the One Piece will awaken either his Haki/Devil Fruit and become not necessarily the strongest character but deserving of his title of one of the Four Emperors.

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind S-doffy getting adopted and raised like law was, but it shouldn’t be law who does it. The amount of trauma law went through because of doffy would make it damn near impossible for law to look at him through an unbiased lens. However, if an older marine (like the wash wash lady) were to adopt him, I could see that being super wholesome, while also tackling the themes of nurture vs nature
Yamato's storyline wasn't dropped, people just don't understand that the point of being like oden is to not repeat the same mistakes he did, like leaving wano for such a long time before making sure it was safe

If yamato after the fight with kaido stopped saying that,i would say yes, but oda didnt.

After i gonna protect wano moment by yamato, every wanna join strawhats, is ruining that. Why would yamata keep it up after stating that. Yamato isnt the type to not keep up with a resolve. It gets entirely unserious. And there isnt a conflict later either that would explore that, so just stop yamato saying shes gonna join. Thats bad writing.
The arc was there and oda did ruin that payoff organic with weird next strawhat trolling.
@marocat4749 yamato did stop saying it after the raid ended, after the fight they met with the strawhats and yamato said it there for the last time, that was also the last time he called himself oden, after that the words used were" i will live the same way oden did"
Kaido is going to come back as a Joy Boy fan boy that rivals Bartolomeo and join Luffy’s crew. Kaido will want to get Big Mom to join too but it will take her being bribed with Sanji’s red bean soup and wedding cake to fully get on board with it. Soon after Big Mom joins, the weaker members will remember that her sweet commander killed Pedro but they are too terrified to bring it up. Then the Straw Hats go to Elbaf. Big Mom and the giants will realize their beef stemmed from one big misunderstanding and they will make peace with each other.
The crew dynamic will be that Big Mom is the Sanji Tsundere that is constantly getting into food eating contests with Luffy. Kaido will constantly be praising Luffy and asking Sanji, Zoro, Jinbe or Luffy to fight. He will always ask Luffy nicely because he respects him but will be a bit more forceful and angry with the others until the crews antics can mellow him out a bit. When Kaido isn’t asking his fellow crew members to fight he is Zoro’s drinking buddy and weight spotter. Big Mom will fit in immediately with Luffy, Usopp and Choppers antics but it will be nothing Nami can’t handle with her fist of love.

Magellan's diarrhea is thematically brilliant. He is inherently poisoned, so he fights that poison with more poison which gives him the screaming squits. This reflects the world government fighting crime and corrupted individuals with their own brand of toxicity that corrupts the entire world (or host body). As a result is a never ending cycle of chaos and violence that causes more waste to be dispelled into the bottom of the sea.

Kuro is the true main villian of one piece. He planned it, all major villains even Enel were all fabricated by Kuro to keep luffy busy. All conflict even with the straw hats Kuro. He even created gol d. rodger. Kuro has been planning this since the void century to distract the straw hats enough to steal Kayas gold without anyone ever suspecting the captured pirate who was defeated by "pirates" to do it again.
