Agreed, great coverage. I was an amateur sailer 30years ago and love this race! Have had the opportunity to see these beauties pull across the finish line!
This is a feature length movie filmed live in real time. A slow burn with a wild ending. The only thing missing is the backstory with character development. Don’t skip ahead.
was that cat spectator boat righht at the end in the way for anyone else? or just me? if we could all do a collective 'BOO' for the cat that got in andoos way that wou ld be great thanks cheers
From a boat racing viewpoint, boats create a divet of water behind that possibly installs a negative effect on their forward movement i.e., reversing suction, but equally, boats produce a forward pressure at their bow while traveling. As such do pursuit boats cause an advantage of stern pressure if they stay very close behind a racing boat?
Well that was a fantastic finish. Was great to see Law Connect take the win, but I think it is totally unfair to allow motor sailors like the Maxis, who sail with engines running all the time but not allow multihulls that are sailed by human power. Maybe after you see what Peccadillo is capable of in the West coaster you might invite them in the Sydney Hobart race next year, get with the program and move with the times. Cheers Rustie.
Hi everyone oh what an amazing Spectacle and Beautiful Race, with all the bow wash from the large News Boats that 're positioned right where they've been told to sit, it's certainly helping push Comanche up the river. Come on Aussie Come on Come On!!!!!🇦🇺⛵ Get the oars out Girls and Boys😲🤣😂This is where the real Skipper pulls the Trump Card. Go Law Connect
Fast sailboats generate so much apparent wind shift (boat motion pulls the wind you feel over the deck forward) from their boat speed that they essentially are sailing against the wind even when going down wind. Visualize a boat zig zagging at a 45-degree angle downwind. They downwind gybe to keep an angle of attack that allows use of a 'Code Zero' sail which is a really flat asymmetric spinnaker essentially. They make better distance over time downwind because, even zig zagging a longer distance, the extra speed they can generate makes it the fastest way to go.
LawConnect has won line honours in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, coming from behind to pip fellow supermaxi and defending champion Andoo Comanche in a thrilling finale.- New Zealand’s Tony Mutter was the sailing master of the vessel which edged across the River Derwent finish line 51 seconds ahead of her rival not long after 10am (NZT) today. The pair, who were neck-and-neck the whole race, played cat-and-mouse in light winds as they neared the finish.
What a fascinating finish! It would have been great to have seen a fast forwarded aerial view of the last 10 minutes of the race and some explanation of the tacticts involved, including an explanation of the right of way considerations. In other words, a bit of analysis and explanation. Where the commentary really went from OKish to bad was when one commentator asked another commentator (the incompetent narcissistic young olympian sailor girl) about her emotions... cringe cringe..
Your coverage of the race should be congratulated. As a non sailor but a lifelong sports nut I have learned so much about the race and sailing.

Watching every moment from France. Thank you for the great coverage.
Jibe by jibe closeup. Spectacular! “Ain’t over till it’s over” Thanks from The Bronx, NYC!
Good coverage though. Looking forward to it again for next year.
Most exciting finishing I’ve seen in no wind ever
Great finish!
Rolltacking a maxi to win. Legend
Well done Tony and crew. Interesting gybes by Law Connect using the keel to leverage the rig to propel
Pipped at the post; congrats #LawConnect !
Nice to see Peter, look forward to the 18 footers next week
One difference was that the Law Connect crew seemed to do a better job in keeping up speed through the gybes.

Watching from Nebraska
Thanks for the coverage.
Amazing finish. Well done all.

Great coverage. Thanks heaps.
As exciting finish as recent solo ocean races. Fascinating! Winter Armchair-sailors in the Northern hemisphere!

wow a first, watching one hour of yatch racing and being glued to the computer
Match racing 100 footers awesome.
4 tonnes lighter?! That’s a big difference between the boats.

Sweet Jesus, she is back on board!
just to understand, what is thw black smoke coming out from law connect min.59:52 and more? what kind of siistem do they run?
Does anyone know if there’s a calendar for the 600 races?
I think they should have had 'large' on the bow too! For those light winds
Well Done
incredible!!!!
Did Andoo not protect her advantage at 01:18:20:26 by not tacking to cover Law Connect ?
Epic !!!
It seems that Spinnakers are a historic piece of rigging no longer used. Why?

The retractable boards are lee-boards. Commanche has a swinging centerboard.
Seeing Law Connect burning diesel and smoking dark being a sail boat is very sad
Good
look at that bloody catamaran smack in the middle of the course. FFS
What ?!!!? WHAT !!!!!! Incredible finish. Boring in terms of speed, but the TACTICS!!!
"Law Connect can't come back", (1:14:33), How can you say that to us ,
Mr Peter Shipway, Please !!!!!!!!

Love all the armchair sailors in the chat telling them what to do and how to sail. If they are so good, why aren't they in the race??
Ma daii
Could have done without the background music near the finish. Unnecessary and takes away from the live feel.
Ma daii😂
There was no gybing in the Derwent by Andoo or Law Connect. If you are going to you use sailing terms at least know what they mean!
Why are the commentators saying they are gybeing when they are tacking … find some experienced sailors to commentate next year please.
Beautiful coverage spoiled by the cheapest crap voice handle
Good coverage though. Looking forward to it again for next year.
Amazing finish!
