You're right, with 100,000 pairs it is the largest colony in the world. Dibidil bothy has certainly been improved. When last there in 1987 it was still Karrimats on the floor, no bunks, no furniture, just a shell. In 1987 my friend Mike fished the lochan you camped by and caught some lovely small trout. Walking back and standing by that river, that was lovely hearing the water, and oh, hi there to that beautiful stag! Bet you'll never forget your gators again lol. Thanks for bringing back fond memories. 30 - 40 years ago, my friends and I stayed at Dibadle bothy three years in a row wintertime. The last time we ascended Askival, there was a low cloud. When we broke through the cloud on the ridge, we saw a Brocken Spectre and a brilliant blue sky with white clouds below. The Bothy had no furniture and no wood lining on the walls. Well done Murray. That was a seriously hardcore day: lots of overall ascent and plenty of rough ground, but Rhum looks spectacularly rugged and well worth a visit. Thanks for sharing 👍
As close as you can get to an actual tv documentary. Great drone footage which really adds to the atmosphere. Thanks for taking us with you on the adventure. All the best.

Enjoyed this one alot. Love seeing the smaller islands around the west. The Corbett's certainly take us to some wild and remote places away from the crowds. I like that 😊
It is something i think too - as good as the Munro’s are I reckon he Corbett are a good bit tougher to complete ( and one reason is the lack of paths in comparison!! Lol ) wouldn’t have it any other way though Thanks for watching Atb Murray
Very well done on getting them done and in such difficult conditions... Can't be many left? A very tough day on those ridges... You looked broken on that path back to the Scarp.... I bet you was cozy in the tent that final night.. and yes.... a lovely sailing back as well... Thank you as always... 💪💪💪💪 PS... I feel your pain with streaming eyes... 😎

Thanks S- a grand trip and like you say I have gazed across the see from Skye so many times - nice to finally get round these ones :) Hope to catch up soon sir M
Thanks Lyndsey - yeah agreed - something about remote locations makes the outing a little more serious and care is required on these mountains for sure. However a wonderful place to visit and i am sure i will return soon :) Thanks for watching Murray

Wow, those three days sounded intense but unforgettable! 🌄🏴 The rough Scottish island, trolls, high mountains, and wild weather must have made for an epic adventure. Definitely not a place to underestimate. Thanks for sharing this special journey! Cheers, Simon - Tales From Abroad
Fantastic walk that is Murray, hard going though. Pitty you didn't get better weather so you could get some views. You will have to give Rum another visit. ❤
It’s a grand hike Karen - and you are right - I’ll need to return when the weather is better for another bash at the Rum Cuillin:) Thanks for watching Murray
A thoroughly enjoyable video thanks Murray, and definitely a bonus to have the extra viewing time. What an amazing island. Although the weather wasn't the best, we were still able to see glimpses of the views and they were absolutely stunning. I can see you returning there in the not too distant future. Thanks again.
Thank you Bryce - i think you maybe right and i will return at some point soon :) hopefully in better weather when i can see the views from the Rum Cuillin peaks :) Thanks for watching Atb Murray
Thankyou for another brilliant video Murray but have to say this one worried me as looked very perilous to say the least. I was glad when you got back safely to your camp. Not one for the amateurs to try that's for sure. Stay safe and hopefully Gerry will go with you if you go again. ATB.
Brilliant again Murray, really enjoyed that. Only have three Corbett’s left myself and yes you guessed it these are two of them. Was hoping to get out in April while the midge are quiet but as you know weather was pretty grim, maybe have a go in autumn. Cheers Paul

@ScotlandsMountains hi Murray we used murdo Grant from Arisaig. He had a bar on his boat back then and always stopped at Eigg for a couple of hours as the locals came on the boat for a few beers. So a couple of us ran up the Sgurr of Eigg. Great memories from then. Thank you very much for bringing them back

Great video. Did the ridge in similar conditions and found it very rough ground. Slippy, steep and loose ground made navigating challenging. The remoteness makes it a serious day oot. Amazing place though...
Absolutely - even if it was placed in the central belt , the terrain and landscapes make this a demanding round for sure but as you say when you realise you are plonked on a wee bit of land in the middle of the Hebrides it makes it that wee bit more serious …. However a wonderful place and some magnificent mountains Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Took 2 cups of tea, a choc digestive and a pack of Mini Cheddars this one. Thank you Murray beautiful video and a beautiful Island. Torn between Rum and Skye now 😂 Hope you enjoyed your Viking adventure even if it were a tad blowy. Cannae wait to see you and Gerry do the climb there one day.

I’m guessing you parked on the mainland and ferried over on foot? Quite the adventure. Cheers, and ATB!
Hi Erin - yeah - parked the van back at Mallaig before getting on the boat:) not many places to drive to once on the Island :) a cracking place to visit
Great adventure Murray. 👏 Tough indeed. They do look tricky when the clag is down. Always fancied there like. The walking club nailed the weather there a few weeks ago. Bothy looks great anaw. You'll need to return for a view 😎

Great adventure film again. No way would I have been filming while traversing those narrow ridges in the wind. Once again, thanks for creating and sharing.
Thanks Alasdair - was a wild trip this one and you ma have noticed I didn’t film anything from the summit until i was on safer ground for those reasons - it was a really tricky decent for sure. Can’t wait to return in better weather at some point soon Thanks for watching Murray
Great video considering the conditions. Went to Rhum (old spelling) about 25 years ago. You didn't mention the 'grass arete' on the north ridge of Askival. Bloody scary in the mist as very narrow and due to the lack of visibility, what felt like an infinite drop on each side. Excellent!
Absolutely - the drop off most of the summits here is pretty sketch, steep slippery serious ground for sure . I would like to return in good weather to enjoy the views though :) such an amazing place Thanks for watching Murray
Cheers Dave - must admit I found it tough going ! However it’s an amazing place to visit - hope you get there at some point as would enjoy the video :) Thanks for watching Murray

That was first class Murray. Really enjoyed watching this adventure. I'm pretty sure I watched the Highland Hikers on UA-cam doing this traverse a while ago now. ATB look forward to the next one.
Thanks Marco - its such a great islan to visit and the mountains are serious when you close with them!! Lol much fun though :) Thanks for watching Murray
Watching again over my morning cuppa - a perfect video in every way. Glad you didn’t meet any trolls and hope you don’t get plagued by the idiot human kind either. During the week I watched 3 men climbing the east ridge of Mount Edith Cavell ( Canadian Rockies and named after our local heroine, nurse executed in Brussels during W W 1) the rock looked very friable so it was good to see Scottish firm gabbro . I always look forward to Wednesdays. Thank you Murray. 🏴❤️👍😄
Thanks Anne - I too was glad I didn’t see any trolls although i feel they could’ve put some sign posts up for me on their mountain as it was a nightmare to descent off :)lol maybe I’ll meet them the next time i am out there :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Thanks for your reply. Just a thought about the lovely shot of the stag on the misty horizon. It reminded me of the first line of a verse of a song sung by Moira Kerr - “ McIain of Glencoe “ which begins “ The royal stag stands proudly on the hill.. .” If you’re interested you can hear the song on Utube. Anne.😊
Thanks again Murray. Just had to cancel my summer holiday to bonny Scotland due to not knowing if I will be moving house or not. God I hate Solicitors lol. Thanks for giving me a fix of the beautiful scenery even if it is a touch cloudy.
Looks different, we climbed it one Easter on a university geology field trip, it was covered in snow! Remember the ledges but we were looking at their geology. We actually stayed in the castle, I remember the toilet located in the corner turret! We also did a hike to the northern side of the island. Interesting you mentioned the possibility the ferry might get canceled, our trip out was canceled but our lecturer arranged a trawler, only my mate Neil and myself didn’t get seasick, maybe the scotch from the boat skipper!
Haha - never heard of Scotch being good for sea sickness - might have to try that or at least use it as an excuse next time i go on a boat!!lol Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Somehow guessed Rum from the thumbnail! A poor lady died a few months back doing exactly what you managed to do. Just goes to show even these small mountains/hills can be dangerous.
Wow, what a place the Isle of Rum is! Full of mystery, she didn't want to give away all her secrets this time, you will just have to visit again for those elusive views! We think we would have given up after the first two peaks, especially with the challenging weather and navigation issues you were facing, an amazing route🙌. And what a camp spot. A truly wild and rugged place. We loved this adventure, and have added the Isle of Rum to our travel wishlist 😊👍
Thank you - as you say the poor weather this time means I will need to return to Rum when the weather goods are smiling :) Thanks for watching Atb Murray
Thanks Mike - i can see why askiva is one of your favourite peaks ! I will need to return so as i can see what the views are like from the summit !lol cant wait to return to the Rum Cuillin for another adventure another time :) Thanks for watching Murray
Sorry you were in the clag on Askival. Mountain summits with a sea view are my favourites. On Askival the sea’s all around you, with views to the Skye Cuillin, Eigg etc. I’m sure you’ll return - Rum has its own magic. (If it helps, we got eaten alive by midges though!)
Another great video Murray. My mate and I were there last year and stayed at bunkhouse on Rum (excellent btw) and climbed Hallival and Askival. Richard suffers with his knees so we abandoned rest of ridge at Bealach an Oir and contoured round Atlantic Corrie (tough going) to Bealach Bairc Mheall and back to bunkhouse. Correct decision given our age both wrong side of 70 (just). Put a short vid on my U tube channel but nowhere near as professional as yours.
Ah - fantastic Paul - well done - it really is rough going and even the paths are rough on the isle of Rum !!lol hope you had fun and it sounds like you did :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Another great watch Murray🎉. Sorry you didn't manage to get to film more great views. But I guess that makes your trips so "real". In the hills, weather changes so quickly & even in "summer" can't be relied on🙄. However, your enjoyment through the most difficult conditions are so inspiring 🥳. Keep on walking, we love to watch your adventures. 🤩👌
Thanks Marilyn - the Scottish weather certainly keeps me on my toes for videoing these trips - makes things interesting as it also deciphers what camera gear i can (and cannot use ) for filming (keeping it dry and not breaking it is a battle in itself !!lol) It was a fun trip though Thanks for watching ATB Murray
You should grab yourself a set of German or Swedish army folding goggles, they look a bit mental but they fold up to the size of a credit card and come with a little pouch they give you pretty good coverage. I usually carry them as spairs to my ski goggles for in the winter. Worth a look 👍

Fantastic video one of my favourite places have been a few times to Rum over the years shame about the mist because the summit views are truly spectacular but another reason to re visit in the future. I had mist on my last trip in April this year I stayed at the bothy it was a special place. There is an excellent book by Magnus Magnusson (mastermind) called Rum natures island that I recommend worth reading about Rum. I also went to Eigg last year and climbed An Sgurr and wild camped looking across to Dibidil I put a small video of it on my channel I highly recommend going if you haven’t been it’s fantastic. You continue to make fantastic outdoor videos that are truly inspiring thanks so much the trolls mountain is a fabulous peak cheers ATB Andy K (Kim Yong young look alike)

Well done Murray. That was a seriously hardcore day: lots of overall ascent and plenty of rough ground, but Rhum looks spectacularly rugged and well worth a visit. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Ross / the Rum Cuillin we’re amazing / such a lovely location - cannae best mountains and sea combinations 👌👌👍
As close as you can get to an actual tv documentary. Great drone footage which really adds to the atmosphere. Thanks for taking us with you on the adventure. All the best.

@@ScotlandsMountains Awesome epic stuff and a portfolio of adventures to one day look back on!
Absolutely fantastic! Always wanted to do those hills. They look too hard for us now though. Well done in those conditions x
It’s a fantastic place to visit - there are a coupe of nice beaches too :)
Lol ) wouldn’t have it any other way though

I was certainly puggled on the return ! lol - the whisky tasted good that evening 😂😂😂
An amazing trip and video. The stag running on the hill was stunning. Thank you for all the effort you put into your videos.
Thank you - was really nice to have the deer as company - shame I don’t have a camera with a bigger zoom !lol (footage was done on a iPhone 11 :)) maybe one day I’ll get all the correct equipment :) lol

Thanks S- a grand trip and like you say I have gazed across the see from Skye so many times - nice to finally get round these ones :) Hope to catch up soon sir

What an adventure Murray. Great trip and good judgement about the risks in a pretty remote location. No midges a bonus despite the winds.
Thanks Lyndsey - yeah agreed - something about remote locations makes the outing a little more serious and care is required on these mountains for sure. However a wonderful place to visit and i am sure i will return soon :)

Incredible, Murray. Some proper Scottish weather.
Another great video Murray.
That climb looked quite treacherous, glad you made it safely.
Thanks Wendy - one certainly needs to be spot on with their navigation on these mountains for sure - a few spots when i had to go back and retrace my steps on this one - a magnificent mountain round though and I cannot wait to return to the Isle of rum for some future adventures :)

Although the weather wasn't the best, we were still able to see glimpses of the views and they were absolutely stunning. I can see you returning there in the not too distant future. Thanks again.

Brilliant filming and commentary. Always wanted to visit Rhum (and its famed Midges)
Nice video, I done all these tops back in April 1987. Beautiful, excellent Isle of Rhum.
Thankyou for another brilliant video Murray but have to say this one worried me as looked very perilous to say the least. I was glad when you got back safely to your camp. Not one for the amateurs to try that's for sure. Stay safe and hopefully Gerry will go with you if you go again. ATB.
Its a remote and wild place and careful navigation was certainly required - not mountains to be taken lightly

Brilliant again Murray, really enjoyed that. Only have three Corbett’s left myself and yes you guessed it these are two of them. Was hoping to get out in April while the midge are quiet but as you know weather was pretty grim, maybe have a go in autumn. Cheers Paul

@@ScotlandsMountains The rate I’m going with my final few I could also be looking at 2030 😀. Guessing your final one is a bit inaccessible maybe another island Corbett? My last 7 were island Corbett’s, managed to do those on Arran two years ago hence three left. The one on Mull I managed in December 2008 when I compleated my Munros. Keep the videos coming, appreciate the effort involved in making them. Look forward to seeing we’re next months Corbett is, cheers Paul

Great video considering the conditions. Went to Rhum (old spelling) about 25 years ago. You didn't mention the 'grass arete' on the north ridge of Askival. Bloody scary in the mist as very narrow and due to the lack of visibility, what felt like an infinite drop on each side. Excellent!

Congratulations on a great “walk”
Another great video Murray. My mate and I were there last year and stayed at bunkhouse on Rum (excellent btw) and climbed Hallival and Askival. Richard suffers with his knees so we abandoned rest of ridge at Bealach an Oir and contoured round Atlantic Corrie (tough going) to Bealach Bairc Mheall and back to bunkhouse. Correct decision given our age both wrong side of 70 (just). Put a short vid on my U tube channel but nowhere near as professional as yours.

You should grab yourself a set of German or Swedish army folding goggles, they look a bit mental but they fold up to the size of a credit card and come with a little pouch they give you pretty good coverage. I usually carry them as spairs to my ski goggles for in the winter. Worth a look 👍
