Should probably note that it supports four controllers with one BlueRetro if you have four cables to chop up. Also, it supports a ton of other Bluetooth controllers including DualShock 4, DualSense, Wii Remote, Wii U Pro controller, and much more.
all extremely good points!!!
Does the 4 controller configuration require the DB25 connector or can this all be soldered directly to the board?
@@amahumahaba6534 They can be soldered directly without the DB25 or secondary PCB since BlueRetro only uses (and doesn’t actually need) the pass-thru board for N64. You shouldn’t need the redundant power and ground connections either, so it’s literally just three more wires straight to the stock dev board. I’m very tempted to install the STM32/BlueRetro completely inside the console to eliminate even the controller cables but I don’t know what will happen if you plug a controller in at the same time.
does each controller need a receiver? and could it be soldered from the inside and to keep the clutter minimal?
@@swide2750 it supports all four controllers with one BlueRetro. It also replicates the N64 Mouse and will soon replicate the Controller Pak. The standard multi-console build would have a DB25 board and a shell with a corresponding DB25 adapter for each console. The adapter would also have a shell and have one plug for each port on each console. For most consoles it also replicates the multitap and supports all the controllers through one BlueRetro. Not sure how it supports 10 player Bomberman on Saturn since Bluetooth typically only supports 7 controllers but the creator has a video demonstrating this where it replicates two 5-player Saturn multi taps (single BlueRetro + single Saturn adapter that plugs into two controller ports). That’s 5 players per port, just like the PC Engine/TurboGrafx adapter. ;)
The fact that this is already available so soon after the controller was released is insane! Really cool to see what the modfing community can do and I'm sure there will be more to see for this controller in the future! Great video and keep up the good work!
Well, the BlueRetro has been around a while and wasn’t getting the attention it deserved. DarthCloud rushed to add support for NSO N64 controllers and that seemed to change everything. ;)
Really neat stuff here, nice video.
Great video RockerGaming, I’ve been following this great project for a while but have no experience to create one. You make it look easy enough to try, thanks
I wish I had been paying attention earlier. Its a pretty easy project to get into and works super well! If I didnt spend a bunch of time on the 3d printed case this is a 30 minute to 1 hr project. Now that I made this its a 3 hour project including all 3D printing time.
This is pretty neat! This is honestly what I'd use the new N64 controller for more then the Switch itself lol!
So ngl... since doing this I've been playing n64 almost exclusively with this exact set up 😂
I’ve been using blue retro on my GameCube for a while now but I have it hardwired inside, I have a switch on the 5v so I can turn it off and use original controllers still.. It’s awesome, I’m glad it’s finally getting some more publicity the creator is a legend.
Love that idea... I may need to put that in my back pocket if you don't mind 😂
@@RockerGaming Happy to share more details with you dude
Yes! Thank you man!/- I was waiting for a video like this - First thing when I saw the Switch n64 controller was how could we connect this to an OG 64 lol
you are one step ahead of me... That was the big brain play all along!!!
Same, I hope we can find some pre built versions of this online.
Note that in the web config you can tweak the joystick maximum individually which would allow to near perfect max value. But the default will be very close. Will vary between individuals ctrl. I had one NSO spot on ideal value.
I should have mentioned this in the video for sure, the fact that all of this is possible is super impressive, thank you again for your efforts with this project!!
Is it possible to make BlueRetro play nice with original controllers and controller paks if I install it inside the console?
@@emmettturner9452 I'll probably do something for internal install in the future. For now you would need either one switch on the ESP power or one for each player data line.
@@jacquesgagnon4250 Thanks! I guess it would also enable us to use the other half of the extension cable as a pass-thru for Transfer Pak, Microphone Pak, Bio Clip, etc (external install). ;)
@@emmettturner9452 In theory, yes.
Great video RG, it's surprising Nintendo didn't come out with those solution themselves for their og hardware lol ... But I guess they want to resell their game on newer consoles over and over. Anyhow great testing and you covered it all 😊
You said it not me, but I hardly disagree. The reality is most dont have the n64 anymore so the actual market for something like this is likely "small" in Nintendo's eyes, while I do wish an official solution existed, the reality is if it did, it would do nearly as much as this one. The actual feature you can tweak on the back-end of this is actually pretty staggering. I think you need to make one 😋
@@RockerGaming you are right we are a small niche market, I tend to forget about that as I hang around with a lot of retrogamers lol.
i mean cartridges don't last forever, it was nice to see the snes and nes mini but scalpers ruined it for all, i wasn't able to buy one because paying 300 dlls for a snes mini it's not sane
This is WILD
Dude, this is a lot of fun, hit me up on twitter if you want one. I made a couple extra and I know you still rock the OG N64!
I really hope someone creates a retail/ already made version of these for this controller.
love the gummybears background music xD
Thank you and excited to test out what you are cooking up :)
I’m so excited for this project to improve even more.
Controller pak (prefferably with many banks and maybe a SD card slot would be cool).
I don’t think it’s possible but having the device somehow read what game is playing and then select the correct bank for mpak would solve all my issues with having to carry 10 controller paks around🤣
Transfer pak would also ofc. be very nice.
And I wonder if one could have the adapter compensate for the little overshoot in sensitivity somehow🤔
I like when you talk about highly technical things like it's super normal. I just nod in agreement even though I don't understand a thing. 😂
Like I actually laughed out loud when I read this, I am going to take that a complement thank you!! 😂😂😂
Dude! Nice find and much faster than i expected. I wonder if there is one for my 6 button megadrive controller id love to use it on original hardware. That rumble sounds awesome
I am pretty sure this project supports it! You would just need make a different adapter (to support the MD) and flash the correct firmware, but I am almost positive I saw DarthCloud made it as well!!!
@@RockerGaming parts ordered even though i dont know what im doing its worth a try😉👉🎮 very excited about it.
@@ScruffyLookinRGB it definitely works. The creator of BlueRetro, DarthCloud, even demonstrated it in his YT video. :)
really cool
nice
Interested in doing this…. Have you noticed much input lag? How about a comparison between this and the Intecgaming adapter?
It exists, but I didnt notice it when I was playing. I have not tested the intecgaming adapter so I cant comment, but this is so cheap I would give it a go!
Extremerate should hire you
It would be a lot of fun to be able to put more time, effort and energy into the scene. Currently, I am about tapped out, but I truly love doing this stuff!
Any chance your currently selling those custom recievers > n64 console plug setups?? Id buy one if you kept them on your etsy page :)
Not right now, there are some other pretty cool variants others have released
@@RockerGaming Any chance you could share a few links or company names and ill look them up myself?
Edit: nvm lol
Hey... Can you mod the old controller to work the switch??
Is it possible to connect this controller on Wii?
Very cool. Sad the benchmark results aren't closer to the original one. Thanks for your work!
You can edit within the configuration where I enabled rumble. I didn't realize that till Darthcloud mentioned it to me after I published, but you can edit the gate on a controller by controller basis to make the gate basically perfect.
Sorry for Deleting the comment but after seeing where the cable go. I was wrong a little bit. Now I know what to do. Thanks for the reply.
Boom glad to hear it!!!
Great video, do you know how to do it with a GameCube controller? I would love to use rumble on a GameCube with a wireless controller!
There is video of someone doing an internal GC install though you probably don’t want to connect an original controller without disconnecting the BlueRetro or powering it off.
@@emmettturner9452 a switch will do the job I jus want to know how to do the mod for GameCube!
@@Hermas_360 Well, when I try to tell you the search terms UA-cam filters my comment but it’s literally the top result when I look up BlueRetro. :)
@@emmettturner9452 thanks Men I will look for it, much appreciated!
Any plans to add an optical joystick like the original?
that would be interesting. I think its possible, but you would need to add another microcontroller to translate the digital values from the optical stick to the analog values expected by the controller. Totally possible but would require quite a bit of R&D to make it work correctly.
@@RockerGaming understandable have a nice day
@@RockerGaming Yeah, and by that point we are translating translations of translated approximations, removing any advantage the native optical encoders had. Best just to get the translation right in the first place.
Algorithm poggie woggies
Honestly though your first thought about switching components to other controllers wasn’t entirely not big brain lol it would be useful for something like converting special controllers to wireless. Like I have a Special Pikachu Edition N64 that’s UltraHDMI modded and I’d love to convert my Pokémon controller to wireless using the components of the wireless controller
NGL this is smart... basically your thought is, hey can we add a wireless adapter to the OG controller to be able to use it on the switch and with this adapter, correct?
@@RockerGaming yes! Nailed it right on the money
😋😂😂😂 its same technology ?
That's hilarious I always thought you were like 20? Just based on your voice but you sitting down to play reveals you kinda look like my uncle and I'm 34 so
Haha, you and I are the same age, the grey hair came in fast 😂
I hate the title.
