First of all, I love this channel! I'm a rookie trackday rider. Last year I started doing trackdays on my roadbike, riding behind an instructor. Bought a small trailer to haul more stuff. This year I bought a proper trackbike and started doing my first proper trackdays without instruction. I'm making lots of progress and your videos helped me every step of the way! But there's still tons of stuff to learn. So far i've learned that: - A racebike without a sidestand is a nuisance. invest in a front wheel chock and make your life easy. - Buy a tire pressure gauge and monitor your tires after each sessions. My tire wear has been flawless. - bring a lawn chair, a parasol and a coolbox. You'll spend more time waiting in the paddock than riding on track. Make sure you're comfortable. - buy proper brake pads. The road stuff isnt suitable for trackdays and you'll soon cook your brakes. Scary stuff Long story short there's still so much to learn. I'd love to see more videos about the practical stuff of trackcraft. Things like RaceBike maintenance. How to safely strap your bike on a trailer, how to swap wheels and brakes. What things you can't do without in a normal trackday etc. Looking forward to any new videos!
This is the newest video, at 2yrs old??? What happened? Love your content and you’re mentioned in Reddit and whatnot as having put out great stuff. Will you be coming back to UA-cam? I’ve gotten a lot of great info from you as a new track rider. Cheers!
A great break down of chicanes. The track near me has a nice fast right-left chicane that I'm starting to find speed in. I use the throttle to stand the bike up at the transition but if you leave it on too long, the bumpy track gives the bike a bad headshake, and the same on the exit of the left if your too aggressive on the gas. So it's a great place to learn timing and throttle control lol
That was a very clear and informative way to break down attacking chicanes! So what is your technique for a 3 point chicane? For instance we have a double chicane at HPR in Colorado just before going uphill to the start/finish line. It’s a left, right, left. A lot of us aim to take the first left tight so that way we have a more direct approach towards the apex of the right hander for a quick snap back to the left so we’re as close to the apex as possible to be able to hit it at full throttle.
Interesting points raised where you talk about the amount of force required to make the bike change directions, my track experience surprised me with how much force is required on the bars to countersteer in 2 spots, either fast section cornering into a slower corner (trail braking) and changing direction when already at a high speed without the need to brake. In my experience i agree that at times there is a place for both pushing AND pulling the bars together to force that countersteer.
How do I stop my boot touching down on corners when the ball of my foot is on the peg. If I put my toe on the peg my foot is slipping of then I grip the handlebars to compensate. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Thanks so much for producing and allowing for free, your e book on beginner track riding. Im having an hour on Three Sisters, Wigan tomorrow as my first time on a track. Studying your book and videos has been a great learning time for me on improving my riding. Best Wishes, Andy.
I was getting ready to post in a forum about this topic when I saw this video. I had recently been on a track where there was a fast chicane. I had to twist quite hard on the bike's bars to get it to flip, and even had to slow down to make the next turn. I may have been committing too much body position in the first turn, making it harder to get the bike to stand up to get into the next. I'll focus on body position next time there.
Are there any videos that address vision, meaning where to look, looking ahead, finding apexes? This to me is a foundation of control And definitely increased speed and control
Got a trackday booked at Jerez next week. I have had 3 weekends studying the lines of the professionals. Don't know if it will make me any faster, but looking forward to it very much!
Love watching these videos, just bought a dedicated track bike that was set up previously by one of the racing school instructors. Thanks for all the tips!!
Loving your videos I'm finding them very useful. Do you have any advice for trackday novices who have transitioned from years of schoolboy motocross? It's a common progression at least here in the uk so might help some others! I was pretty competitive at motocross and am new to track riding and just trying to adjust to the higher speeds and mental blocks with leaning the bike over. Sometimes feel I'm trying to break old habits like elbows up etc
That used to happen to me… turns out it was both… I was using more input then I should on the handlebars while committing to the transition… So more relax arms and a steering dampener did it for me…
Just found your site, I have been binge watching these amazing videos starting from the back and working toward the newest. Subscribed and bell rang. I have access to a large private paved parking lot, I wonder if you could recommend training exercises for these areas as track time is not always available. Figure 8's etc. just a thought.
Hey Dan. Do you know of a chart/book that deals just with racing lines - the perfect line through any given corner type? I am thinking about something to aid with efficiency-planning a track and lines before you go really. Do people chart a track with lines, braking points, corner speed targets etc. - or am I just a weird nerd? (rhetorical) :-)
sorry to jump in here before Dan does but I think you get a feel for it the more tracks you ride, or the more times you ride a track. It's not a specifically nerdy thing to do, anyone who wants to ride a track at any kind of level other than just cruising should really study the racing line, corners and braking points. It's a good idea to google/youtube the racing line and any tips before going to a track day anyways - for me it's just removing another thing to worry about, so I can get more to focusing on my technique and any mistakes, rather than trying to remember what's coming up next.

Hi, hope all well. Your videos are awesome but we haven’t seen any new ones. Let us know what’s up.

Yup. Our instruction would be to pick the bike up with throttle. However we can do this but maybe this is an advanced technique?
Hey man! Its been a long time since your last video, could you update us on what's up?

If I can suggest, what helped me last year on Jerez was a guide from Simon Crafar on motovudu channel. Enjoy, beautiful track.

friend,in the race ,do you use counter steering?when will use counter steering?thx

My bike wobble teribbly when I do a highspeed flip flop (change of direction) is this because of bike setup or because i change direction aggesively?
That used to happen to me…
turns out it was both…
I was using more input then I should on the handlebars while committing to the transition…
So more relax arms and a steering dampener did it for me…
push and pull at the same time - hmm should I try it on a next track day?)))
Sir?? If you and the bike leaning do you still have to counterstir??

Do you have a video with tips to high speed cornering?
Smooth throttle application, don't hang off too much, turn in later then you think.
Hi buddy do you have any tips for track riding on standard tyres on a wet track
