  • A short and sweet vid this time, and not a lot of jabbering. Just making a basic wand from cherry wood with some ebonizing on the grip. Be sure to check out the Etsy shop to see all the wands I have in stock before they all go to the next convention: nemesisgear.et...

I was always wondering.. when you use the wire, or also when you touch the wood while it's turning - doesn't it hurt?

Not at all. When I touch the wood, I'm feeling for smoothness and defects. It's a light touch, not enough to build up enough friction to burn. The wire does get hot enough to burn (obviously), but it's localized at the point of friction. If I were to touch the wire at the contact point right after use, it would indeed burn, but the heat dissipates fairly quick and I stay away from the hot part. It takes time for heat to move and you can usually feel an area warming before it gets hot enough to burn skin.
