Nobody can touch Janis Joplin. She was taken way too soon. Don't get me wrong as I have a lot of respect and love for many female artist. I wonder what these bullies have thought these past decades. I'm so sorry you weren't turned on to Pearl long ago but the great thing is you are now. This is so good it hurts. I just Thank my Lord I was able to exist in the music decades I did. PEACE.
Poor Janis. such a short tormented life. I'm 79 and loved her back then. She could have never imagined people listening to her decades later, let alone inducted unto the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Too bad she couldn't know.
I was 7 when I was singing her songs. There's a reel to reel recording of me singing... I loved her at 7 and I still love her at 62.... I still get chills ❣️ I actually cried when I heard my father say she was dead. 1970... Her "Candy Man" gave her a sac of pure heroin, she was at a very low point in this time of her life. She overdosed and died of a heart attack in her hotel room. This happened while they were tweaking and finishing up the Album Pearl... Released after her death. 😢
I'm living for BP to hear 'Ball and chains' . But it doesn't matter what she sings because as soon as that girl opens her mouth to sing, I'm living it. She pierces to your soul. RIP Baby Girl, thank you for existing and helping me through some very hard times.🙏❤️🙏💔🖤
I agree, it makes me proud and happy to have grown up in the 60's and been able to experience some of this music first hand. Today's music is 99% crap in my opinion
@@mariandavis7953Yes, most modern music is indeed 95% crap. Artifially autotuned, lameness created by a bunch of talentless 'artists' stamped out like cookies.
Yes, Janis is sadly in the 27 club. This song was released after her death. All of her songs are fantastic, but she's probably most known for Ball and Chain, Piece of My Heart, Summertime, and Me and Bobby McGee. The best Joplin video you can react to is her doing Ball and Chain at Monterey. She walked into that show a nobody (like, seriously - they didn't even record her first performance because she was an opening act but then they made her do it all again after they realized how special she is). So she walked into that show a nobody and left a legend.
I’m so pleased younger generation is appreciating our music. I used to play this record and stand in front of mirror with a hairbrush pretending to be her. Me and Bobby McGee is her most famous song. Piece of my heart was my favorite.
In 1970, I was a 16 year old in Ohio. My step-sister and I ran away to California with plans to see Janis at the 1970 Monterey Pop Festival. Got to LA, hung around a while. The fest was scheduled the middle of Oct. and we planned to be there.... However Janis was found dead in a chalet in LA on Oct. 4th., 2 weeks before the festival. We were so bummed! We did make it to Monterey in spite of Janis' loss. What a trip! RIP to all the members of the 27 Club. Janis, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Curt Cobain and Amy Winehouse are the ones I know of.
We discovered Californians in the 70's were another breed entirely! Strange, strange trip!! We met up with an engaged college couple, very preppy. They went to Monterey with us. Along the way we met a little, dirty biker dude and this guy convinced the bride they were together in a previous life. She dumped her fiancé for him! Stepsister's boyfriend got poisoned on the beach one night. I about fell off a cliff on the beach. 2 Hell's Angels were scheming something on me, friends and step sister pulled up in a car and rescued me. Oh, to be young and dumb again!! lol
Janis had a very turbulent life. She was very disliked in her teens by her classmates. She never fit in. You can tell by her clothes. But boy when she made it famous she went back to her high school reunion and rubbed it all in their face. A Little Piece Of My Heart and Bobby McGee were my favs.
That's an incredible story. I bet it was an intense time to be there. I was in London when Princess Di died and that was intense, too....the closest I can imagine....not the same but----
We sure had the talent back in the 60’s and 70’s. Now you know why we 65 plus people think there’s no talent in todays so called music industry. But….there is lots of great independent artists I’ve discovered. Great reaction.
You should watch her "Ball and Chain" live at the Monterey Pop Festival. A lot of people saw her for the first time there, and she simply blew everyone's mind.
She was a legend and she was at Woodstock. She bought blues and soul to the Rock and roll audience. She also took an Erma Franklin song Arethas sister Piece of my Heart to the mainstream.
Janis grew up in Port Arthur, Texas and was a fan of the black female singers of the 1920s and 1930s, i.e. Bessie Smith, Big Mama Thornton, and Ma Rainey. She also tended to dress like Bessie Smith, who was known for her flashy clothes.
She was one of the greats and I know many of us miss her. RIP, My most favorite song is "Try" What a soulful song and she does it like nobody can. I hope one day you'll play it here. Thanks for sharing.
I think Peace of my Heart, Bobby McGee, Ball and Chain, Summertime (Gershwin) and Mercedes-Benz are her most famous songs. Bobby McGee and Mercedes-Benz probably the likeliest radio hits, the others a bit more to chew on.
Janis IS a member of the 27 Club. She is the real deal. She is as authentic as it gets. She had a rough time growing up in Texas. Always the outsider. She had few friends and the were social misfits as well. Often the target of others making fun of her. At one point while attending the University of Texas, she was voted "Ugliest Man On Campus". She had to blow that town and she headed to the west coast (I'm skipping a lot here) and ended up in San Francisco, the home of free spirits, talented people, cast offs, artists, etc. In other words, she found a place where she fit in. She ended up hooking up with Big Brother & The Holding Company and started to build a following. The were invited to The Monterey Pop Festival where she (and Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, The Who, and several others broke open the American market and blew everyone's mind). I wager that you will not see a performer in your life that is more real and authentic, more riveting and unashamed to expose her inner feeling and emotions to an audience to let them experience all the pain and loneliness she had experienced in her relatively short life. She made you feel and after the first time seeing/hearing her, you are not the same. She had so many great songs in her short meteoric career. Just a few suggestions to check out: Down On Me, Kozmic Blues, Piece of My Heart, Ball and Chain, Get It While You Can, To Love Somebody, Me and Bobby McGee, Maybe, A Woman Left Lonely, and so many more. She was a once in a generation, if not a once in a lifetime artist. Janis Joplin Forever...
Great choice for your first listen. Songs you might know: A Little Piece of My Heart. Me and Bobbie McGee. Yeah man go watch any live recording of hers. I’m thinking there is a Woodstock performance that’s of pretty decent quality.
Try the Monterey Jam festival with Mama Cass watching her in amazement. Watchng Janis is like watching Joe Cocker Tough to look at but you can't turn away.
a true female GOAT!!!!! A one of kind will never be another one like her!! I am 75 & have loved her since she 1st came on scene in late 60's - Big Brother & Company - . Her last boyfriend/lover was Kris Kristofferson who broke with her due to her drug/alcohol dependence that was ruining her talent & hampering her future. Little did he know she had recorded "Me & Bobby McGee" - which was released after her death!!! So glad she made it to the R&R Hall of Fame - she so deserved it!!! RIP Janice - we still listen to you & love you!! The reaction folks are introducing you to a whole new generation of listeners!!! Check out her Woodstock Festival performance - it is mind-blowing!!!
I had the privilege of watching her from backstage when she performed in 1969. A few swigs of Southern Comfort before the set and she was on fire! I've never seen an artist put so much of their heart and soul into a performance. Its still my favorite concert after 50+ years.
Janis Joplin does not have any bad songs. Many have tried to emulate her, but there is only one Janis Joplin. When you react on Ball and Chain, the woman with the sun glasses spotted in the crowd is the late Mama Cass of the Mamas and Popas of the ’60s.
Indeed she does not and not only was Cass going to be the headliner of the show but she and John Phillips of the Mama's and the Papas were sponsors of this early 3 day iconic summer of love rock festival where so many huge acts got a huge boost.
@@acehays Janis and her band almost did not make it into the movie. They refused to sign the waiver that Philips and Lou Adler required in order to be included in the planned movie. Apparently, they played a second show so that the promoters could record their performance. That's probably why Cass is sitting in the audience. She already had an idea what was to come. And the rest is history.
I’m of the belief that reaction channels can go both ways you react to things you haven’t heard but then show us the stuff you love and if you feel the need to elaborate tell us why, show us your favorite parts. I bought this album when it came out in 1971. I was 16. I played both sides many times repeatedly. She sings the kind of blues I like, but as a singer, she is still one of a kind. I remember being very sad when I found out she died. I wondered what the world would miss because of it. RIP Janis Joplin.
Janis Joplin ...without words the best love all her music. She has so much soul and her voice makes you feel every note she sings. Thanks for the reaction to janis
Welcome to the world of Janis as you can see she is much beloved, you got over 4600 views in 3 hours and ~400 while I was watching!. There has never been anyone like Janis; she had grit and soul. Kudos to the band’s excellent performance. You’re in store for more great listening from Janis! She's got lots of wonderful songs and you must watch her live performance of "Ball & Chain" at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival!
“Piece of My Heart” (from the 'Cheap Thrills' album with Big Brother & the Holding Co.) was her biggest hit till (Kris Kristofferson's song) "Me and Bobby McGee" came out after her death on the 'Pearl' album, which also included "Cry Baby" "Move Over" "Mercedes Benz" and "Get It While You Can" all personal favorites👏✨
I was a teenager when Janis hit. I've listened to this song uncountable times and I STILL get chills, every time. She was unparalleled, totally unique, irreplaceable. She sang her soul.
Piece of my Heart, Summertime, Me and Bobby McGee, Cry Baby and for me a Song from the Album that never got big because it was a Cover: Cripple Creek. I used to fall asleep hearing this from the living room. My Dad worked graveyard and my Mom stayed up Late. Janis was one of her favorite artists.
I remember as a little girl about 5 or 6 seeing Janice on TV and I asked my mom, "Who is that crazy screaming woman?" and she said "Janice Joplin, one of the greatest singers in the world." Momma was right. 👌😊
I'm 76 and boy we had some fantastic music and musicians and singers! We lost them too soon!😢 I love that you are expanding your music knowledge! We were do lucky! We had Motown, blues rock and classic rock! I miss those days!❤❤❤ New to uour channel and love it,!
This was my generation of music, and she stood out. The first time you hear her you fall in love with her. I wish she knew how much she was loved. I wish she knew she would be a legend of legends. She was bullied as a kid in school, outcast, tormented by bullies. But she rose above it. The pain in her voice is real. She sometimes wept during and after her performances because it was so evocative for her. It was such a loss when she died.
She is my all-time favorite female singer ever, and there will never ever be another Janis Joplin!!! if autotune had been invented back then it would have ruined her, her raw raspy soulful voice is one of a kind!!
I am almost 50 years old and have been listening to Janis Joplin all my life and I still get chill bumps sometimes. Please react to a live performance. You'll be blown away.
Janis is one artist I can never get enough of! She is someone who always gave 100%! She became known by the world at The Monterrey Pop concert, in 1967. Unfortunately she passed in 1970. Yes, she is one of the 27 Club, along with Hendrix and Jim Morrison…. She was poorly treated in Port Arthur, Texas, and continued to have her progressive views on race, etc. She had been singing the blues since age 14. I love this woman…raw, all out talent! Janis loved Aretha, Otis Redding among others and didn’t live long enough to see that people loved her just as much as those icons!
I love that you and Anthony Ray are on this journey of discovery. I was in high school 1968-1972 and it blows my mind that Janis, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Beatles, Stones, etc etc were what we listened to on the radio! And the concerts!!!!! So enjoy reliving this with you guys.❤❤❤❤
Please I have to tell you how wonderful it is as a 62-year-old woman to watch someone discover the music that I grew up with, the best era for music ever. We had the beautiful sounds 60s harmonies to the grungy hippie 70s with some country and Bluegrass sprinkled in between. We had rooms that were better than the originals, guitarists who sounds went through your the veins in your body through to your soul. We had voices that didn't need Auto-Tune would just as amazing as guitar solos and then we had drum solos that would just pound inside your body like a wonderful reminder that you're alive. Enjoy your journey and I want to give you so many ideas of other songs. But being that I'm on a Joplin reaction I think I'll leave you with, try her singing summertime, from the Play Porgy and Bess. Please enjoy. Love you
I was in high school in the 70's when "Me And Bobby McGee" came out, and I fell hard. Had to go back to her early music, and that was it. Definitely keep down this journey, and yes, watch the live videos when you can. She didn't just sing, she testified, 200% percent every performance. So glad you've found her, and are helping keep this phenomenal talent alive. Thank you,
You can never have too much JJ. She grew up in Port Arthur Texas. She ignored the racism and would listen to the great black artists that she would drive across the state line into La to hear. She literally grew up in those "Juke Joints".
Got goosebumps didn't ya? I did too when I first started listening to Janis. I still do, in fact. LOVE her... such a beauty, inside and out Definitely check out her "Kozmic Blues", "Get It While You Can", "Little Girl Blue", "Ball and Chain", "Maybe", "Summertime", "Me and Bobby McGee", "Mercedes Benz", and To Love Somebody and DEFINITELY "Work Me Lord!" ALL absolutely phenomenal. And DEFINITELY check her out live. She is a firecracker. Shy and laid back in interviews, a hurricane on stage.
Man you killed that in the song never met that was my favorite verse. Oh, I did like when Anthony Ray said something about throwing the keys in the water that was funny.
No one has ever been able to even come close to copying the raspy wailing beauty that Janis was able to bring... She really had an ability that is unmatched. Amazing vocals with "soul". She was one of a kind for sure. Thank you BP for exploring her sound. I really appreciate your reactions... you are "real" dude and I'm always looking for what you're going to bring next.
She was a force of nature - maybe one of the original screamers but possibly did some damage to her vocal chords (not sure - maybe one of the other listeners would know).
God, that woman put so much soul into her music. I was 14 in 1968 when I started listening to Janis Joplin to my mothers dismay. She let me listen to any music I wanted.
This lady was pure raw emotion. Yes >>I was born in the 70´s and I loved Janis. Amy Winehouse had such abn amazing voice that even my 84 yo mom loves Amy.
"How much soul does this sister have?" ----> Watch her live Performance of "Ball and Chains" in Monterrey 1967 and you may get an answer ;)

"Piece of My Heart" is another great one from her....
I absolutely love Janis Joplin! You gotta hear "piece of my heart" and "me and Bobby mcgeee" they're 2 of her other really popular songs.
Janice is the queen of soul. Love her music so much! Classic woodstock 4ever❤
I love Janis Joplin!!
You really must watch her live . She was amazing
Janis had a voice like no other.
Her performance of Ball and Chain ar the Monterey Pop Festival is a must!
I am almost 50 years old and have been listening to Janis Joplin all my life and I still get chill bumps sometimes. Please react to a live performance. You'll be blown away.
"Piece Of My Heart" ..... Soooo Good! And "Ball and Chain" Live. OMG!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤🎉
She blows your mind bro....
Pearl. Forever young and forever in our hearts !!❤️❤️🎶 🎶❤️❤️
63 now and was 9 when this released . My dad played her music on the turn table a lot. Joplin, Santana, The Doors it was a great time for music
Pure soul.
75 and I still have that album. Love it
One of my favorite videos is Janis and Tom Jones singing "Raise Your Hand" live on the Tom Jones show. Two legends together.
I love the way Janis belts out this song. She was such a soulful singer. She was such a unique talent. Thank you.
This is just one of many of her best songs. ❤
Love Janis. She is such raw emotions when she sings. Generational talent.
There is NO other than Janis Joplin. She is a legendary icon and The Goat! Yes, please react to more Janis.❤
This is a sermon in the church of Janis 🕯️🙏🕯️💓💓🔥🔥🔥
Thank you,
I lived next door to her bass player and saw her perform many times. Always like this.
You can never have too much JJ. She grew up in Port Arthur Texas. She ignored the racism and would listen to the great black artists that she would drive across the state line into La to hear. She literally grew up in those "Juke Joints".
One of my favourite songs of all time.
Another member of the "27" club ...😢❤
Got goosebumps didn't ya? I did too when I first started listening to Janis. I still do, in fact. LOVE her... such a beauty, inside and out
Definitely check out her "Kozmic Blues", "Get It While You Can", "Little Girl Blue", "Ball and Chain", "Maybe", "Summertime", "Me and Bobby McGee", "Mercedes Benz", and To Love Somebody and DEFINITELY "Work Me Lord!" ALL absolutely phenomenal. And DEFINITELY check her out live. She is a firecracker.
Shy and laid back in interviews, a hurricane on stage.
Man you killed that in the song never met that was my favorite verse. Oh, I did like when Anthony Ray said something about throwing the keys in the water that was funny.
Never met was sooooo fire 🔥
I haven’t heard this in awhile. I’ve got chills all over. Love Janis!
Summertime live with the holding company is a must listen to hear the soul of the woman
She was a force of nature - maybe one of the original screamers but possibly did some damage to her vocal chords (not sure - maybe one of the other listeners would know).
Not Then, Not Today!!
Immediately go to “Ball and Chain” live at Monterrey 67. Janis is BEYOND.
Janis is a legend ❤
Of what? What it takes to be a drug addict that no one can understand a word she's trying to belt out!!! 🙄
The sister's has a old soul it deep, legendary and heart breaking 💔 to love this deep.
Janis was the best. Period
Loved her emoting as she sang. I'm 73 today, but I identified with the depth of her emotions. Great reaction!
One of my all time fave's
Here we go. Bobby Magee, Piece of my heart.
Her first big hit I believe was piece of my heart
Love your reaction to one of my favorite artists. Thank you. P.S. Do more Janis reactions, please. You gotta do Piece of My Heart.
Janis Joplin is Awesome..... Love me a soulful growl in my singers; especially women. Still melting hearts long after her life here on earth.....
God, that woman put so much soul into her music. I was 14 in 1968 when I started listening to Janis Joplin to my mothers dismay. She let me listen to any music I wanted.
Find her live version of this on UA-cam. That will MORE than blow your socks off! I’m 75 and have loved her all these years.
Yes, she's in the 27 club and was inspired by the Blues. Many called her the Queen of the Blues for her generation.
This lady was pure raw emotion. Yes >>I was born in the 70´s and I loved Janis. Amy Winehouse had such abn amazing voice that even my 84 yo mom loves Amy.
- Janis was PURE SOUL!!! :)
Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop festival...that performance shot her into stardom....FANTASTIC!!
