What a voice! What a singer! It doesn't get any better than Etta James. She should be the biggest legend ever. Shame on the news media and the record executives who didn't promote her like they should. She should be a legend worldwide among all generations.
"I'd Rather Go Blind" is a blues song written by Ellington Jordan with co-writing credits to Billy Foster and Etta James. It was first recorded by Etta ...
I’m agree. Recoded in Muscle Shoals AL, in the studio with the “Swampers.” So many greats from R&B (Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and others), Rock (Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and many more). There was and still is, music magic made in north Alabama.
My German born Grandmother loved Etta, and when I went to see her in hospice on her literal last day I played "At Last" and she was semi conscious and reacted very positively to the songs I played for her. I was told not to come by my mother, Aunt, and Uncle, but they never understood the connection I had with her. So I drove from Philly to NYC to see her at 6am that day, and it was the greatest farewell I've ever had. I would have never been right if I didn't get to see, and feel her that day. She passed at 7:30 that evening. Sometimes family can be your worst enemy.

Right. I was so hurt when Beyonce sang "At Last" for the Obamas. I couldn't BELIEVE they didn't consult The greatest singer Etta James for her own song.
I saw her many times. The last time I saw her was on the blues cruise a year before she died. It was clear she was suffering from dementia. Her guitar player would lean over and whisper the lyrics in her ear. Her band clearly lived her. I went to all three performances and sat in a corner where no one could see me cry. Hearing this today gave me chills. Bless you for sharing this wonderful woman with us.
Ms Etta James was an absolute LEGEND!!!!! What a pitch perfect voice this beautiful lady had. Love her. Please listen to At Last well worth your time. Love from your 70 year old fan ❤
She was one of my favorites. Etta was the "Bad Girl of Rock n' Roll." For one of my birthdays, my sister bought me a booth (at BB King's in New York City), at her concert. It was late in her life, after losing 150 pounds and soon after being diagnosed with dementia. She looked and sounded like pure magic. It was an evening I will never forget. I never listened to her but i see where Janis Joplin got her inspiration from. Why people say they never heard of certain performers amazes me cause you just hear about them during the course of converstions or reading...theyre so many people i havent given a listen to but i know about them.
WOW to make that physical connection (the pic of you as a child) and then proceed to feel the connection and express how you resonate so personally was beautiful to watch. She (Etta James) must have realised that the essence and energy she used to portray her emotions and message would break the barriers of age, gender, ethnicity, etc so people would know they’re not alone in those feelings. ❤ Arohanui
Another great performance is Christine Agularia sang at Etta’s funeral. It’s So loving and fantastic. Etta’s song “At Last” was sung by Beyoncé at President Obama s inauguration at his request. Also a beautiful moment. Etta was so loved by so many. Keith Richard’s of the Rolling Stones writes about her with such pain and love
I watch or listen to this song at least once a week for the last decade. As I have gotten older and experienced more of life, this song has such a deeper meaning. Loving someone so much that you don't want to know the truth when its dead in front of you. I think we can all attest to wanting to turn a blind eye to things, and like she said, not wanting to be alone. This song and her performance are riveting!!
EVERY time I listen to her it brings TEARS to my eyes. Doesn’t even matter what the song is about, it’s the depth of her soul that’s going straight to my heart. Se must have been an incredible person. Can’t believe her presence.
Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone ... heart breaking, inspirational talents. Feel so blessed to have been exposed to these women at an early age.

Totally Agree!!
I love her track and the stories she was nuts
My goodness, she is amazing! It always surprises me that one or two generations later have never heard the earlier music. So many wonderful artists are waiting for you!
Montreux Switzerland... Love Etta James....
Love, love, love Etta James!! If any of her songs were to sound familiar to u, it would prob be At Last! A few of my other favorites by her are, A Sunday Kind of Love, Stormy Weather, Something's got a hold on me, & Don't cry baby!
Oh!!! You named some great ones- Thank you !!
I never listened to her but i see where Janis Joplin got her inspiration from. Why people say they never heard of certain performers amazes me cause you just hear about them during the course of converstions or reading...theyre so many people i havent given a listen to but i know about them.
That Baby, baby, baby, baby …. GAVE ME CHILLS!!!!
Love Etta James, she's a powerful singer and full of grit & soul
The LEGENDARY Iconic Ms Etta James ❤❤❤❤❤❤
WOW to make that physical connection (the pic of you as a child) and then proceed to feel the connection and express how you resonate so personally was beautiful to watch. She (Etta James) must have realised that the essence and energy she used to portray her emotions and message would break the barriers of age, gender, ethnicity, etc so people would know they’re not alone in those feelings. ❤ Arohanui
Seeing Wilson Pickett on the Chitterlings circuit and Miss Etta James highlights of my life..
My Grandma used to play her music, I Rather go blind, At Last, Something gotta Hold on me, etc ❤️❤️❤️
I love this performance, but I must admit, I love the recorded version even more.
So many times I`ve put this on a loop and just entered another roam.
Good to be reminded of such music.🎵 🙏🫶🏽
Love Etta James, one, if not the most powerful female singer ever ❤️
That’s the blues. Only Etta does it the way she does!
This wonderful lady ETTA is marvellous AMY WINEHOUSE listened to ETTA and loved her too 😊
EVERY time I listen to her it brings TEARS to my eyes. Doesn’t even matter what the song is about, it’s the depth of her soul that’s going straight to my heart. Se must have been an incredible person. Can’t believe her presence.
Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone ... heart breaking, inspirational talents. Feel so blessed to have been exposed to these women at an early age.
literally i hear this song hundreds of times and still making me cry 😢
I sang At Last for her manager in the doctor’s office about 20 years ago. He told me Etta would have been proud.
I had the privilege of seeing Miss James when I lived in London England in the late sixties. It was the most incredible performance I have ever seen. She is long gone but her music lives on in my heart 💗❤️😢
I’ve been listening to Etta James for years what a pearl she was.
