Olivia singing one of Karen Carpenter’s iconic songs. ❤ Karen had one of the greatest voices of all time. And Olivia had such beautiful gift too - with her delicate, soothing voice. Both were beautiful souls.
And both were very good friends ❤
Their beautiful soul legacy lives on in all of us who remember and connect with this enormous body of work they gifted us with.

How wonderful is it that we live in an age where brand new HQ videos of Olivia are dropping regularly, and we can watch them at will on a machine in our homes (or pockets). If you think about it, It's fantastic, and this video is fantastic. 💞💕💓💞💕
The video quality is incredible, really, for the early 70's. The resolution is so sharp, I can literally see the pores on her skin. I've seen videos from the 90's that are much worse.

You listen to her and see her and you know she was an angel.
Those delicate overtones of sadness and mirth that Olivia melts in her bright performance just enlighten the text that she sings so gracefully.
As well as the voice and the astonishing beauty we often over look the fact that there were few singers who could express the emotion in a song like ONJ. Her face feeling the emotion of the words was often so well expressed that the viewer was under no illusion what she was feeling.

Carole king , olivia newton john, donna,summer, Barbara Streisand, and Linda rondstadt among other female singers, did not have a male figure such as a brother to help them create and promote their stardom like Karen carpenter had been given
No nearly every other female solo act in the same time frame as Karen Carpenter had to rely solely on her own talent and intelligence to promote her own career and each of those female singers that I previously listed each sold at least 100 million singles and/ or albums during their individual careers.
So as much as you like Karen carpenter, there were several female solo singers during her lifetime that were at least equally talented if not far more talented than Karen carpenter.

Olivia has an entire catalog across different genres to showcase her talents. Olivia NJ is a great. I love listening to her. But this cover is terrible. It's not her style. She doesn't really share vocal range with Karen Carpenter, though she tries. She sound breathy.
Really, the biggest thing probably is the fact that I know this song as a Carpenters hit. It's the version I know. It's the version I like.
For what it's worth, I don't think Karen Carpenter could have done any Olivia N-J song any justice. If she did, she would have "Carpenterized" the song, like Jambalya, a cover of a Hank WIlliams song or Mr Post Man a song by The Marvelettes.
Olivia should have olivia'd the song.
@@tarstarkusz apologies to you for misunderstanding your original points concerning Karen carpenter. Still I thought olivia newton john did an acceptional version of the carpenters' song .
My opinion is maybe you are correct in believing that olivia newton john should have performed the song in a style more suitable to olivia newton john still, I think she chose to sing it in Karen carpenter's style out of respect to Karen carpenter's vocalization and avoid singing the song in Oliva newton John's style that might compete or overshadow Karen carpenter's version.
So as a greater fan of Karen carpenter to olivia newton john, as you remind it to me, it is greatly reassuring that Karen carpenter's legacy as a great inspirational singer continues today through her fans such as yourself.
