Hi - thanks for this video. A healthy Diet is critical during and post treatment (chemo, radiation, endocrine therapy etc) i was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer one year ago. I now follow a healthy diet. I stopped; drinking alcohol, eating processed foods and I cut out refined sugar and diary. I don’t have gluten or red meat. I also eat only between 10am and 7pm. I walk for wellness daily and it’s helped me stay well and my disease is now stable. I dropped 30 kg (60lbs) weight and feel well, even on cancer meds. I hope your msg on a healthy diet is adopted widely. I love your videos.
Hi Dr. Griggs - I really enjoy your videos. They are very informative and current. Can you please comment on the potential benefits of intermittent fasting along with good nutrition in reducing the chances of breast cancer recurrence, in particular for ER, PR positive, and Her2 negative cancers? Thanks.
Great question. Intermittent fasting has had mixed results in rodents. In people, the research is difficult to interpret because there is a great deal of variability in how intermittent fasting is actually done. Thus far, intermittent fasting is not recommended outside of a clinical trial. The primary goal of intermittent fasting is to reduce caloric intake in a way that is more acceptable to real people.
Hello Dr Griggs Many thanks for your helpful and easy to digest videos. These are extremely helpful for me to better understand my condition, treatment options and everything in general about my situation. I would like to ask you to make a video about the full genetic panel that is available right now to figure out whether we are genetically predisposed to develop breast cancer or not. It is often mentioned the BRCA 1 and BRCA2 mutations but I have heard about 93 genes that might be connected to breast cancer. However I could not really find a lot of information about it, available tests etc.
Yes please do a video on genetic panel testing of people with breast cancer & genetic panel testing of breast cancer tumors in primary BC tumors and reoccurance MBC tumors because this subject is not covered enough to inform people about what they & possibly there family members may have to deal with in the future. People need to know that these tests are available & where to get them. The liquid biopsy should also be covered as well a FES petscan for people with lobular breast cancer. Thank you in advance for considering covering these above subjects.❤😊
Thank you for your videos. I really appreciate them. Do you have any opinions on a whole foods vegan diet during breast cancer treatment? I'm not looking to cure myself, but I have been vegan for years and don't want to change.
There's no reason for you to have to change your diet during treatment. It is probably the case that you are an expert in getting sufficient vitamins and nutrients as a long-time vegan. Wishing you the best through your treatment.
@@yerbba I am thankful that you reply me actually these days I feel not good about me .some time my thinking about me that may be I did some thing wrong and life changed so much ..I don't understands my feeling
Many thanks for all your videos. Very informative and useful in these difficult times. What are your thoughts on mushrooms? I understand they are a good natural source of vitamin D and there are appear to be evidence they alleviate some of the side effects of chemotherapy.
Great question. There are some Chinese mushrooms that have been studied for people on chemotherapy, and they do appear to help alleviate some of the side effects. These are not the mushrooms we buy at the market but rather special mushrooms that you make into a tea (in general).
Thank you very much for pointing me at this video Dr. Griggs , it is indeed helpful 🙏. Citrus has indeed been very helpful. During my chemo sessions my taste changed and lemon juice in water or on foods helped me to be able to drink water and eat food. It is also good to get an idea of how much red meat one can eat. Can you kindly talk about sugar as well? It is commonly mentioned as one of the things causing cancer or feeding its cells. Is this true? How much sugar is an individual recommended to consume daily? Is there a particular advice for those who have or have had cancer? Another thing mentioned as causing cancer are the birth control pills, is it true? there are so many "myths about cancer" and we count on the oncologists to have clarity. Lastly, I would like to request you that you also make a video on how to behave after cancer treatment. There are many videos on what to do during cancer treatment and I think what to do after its treatment would also be useful especially coming from you. I have seen one about "recurrence" it is a very useful one. Once again thank you very much for the great work you are doing standing with those in need around the world☺, thank you for your invaluable videos🙏.
So happy that our videos have been helpful. Regarding sugar, there's a lot out there about sugar intake and cancer. Sugar does not, fortunately, fuel breast or other cancer (cancer myth). Our bodies regulate our blood sugar levels quite precisely. All that being said, eating a lot of added sugar, such as is found in processed foods, is not great for us. There's not a minimum amount of sugar that you should be worried about. Rather, it's excess sugar that leads to unwanted weight gain (in particular). Avoiding ultra-processed foods (snacks, chips, etc.) is one way to take good care of yourself.
@@yerbbasugar increases the insulin growth factor igf-1 hormone, which is what stimulates the growth of the tumors. and according to the research by Dr Seyfried sugar is what feeds some cancers. Cancers are fermenters and they cannot live on ketones.
Hi dr, how about crucified vegetables and some nuts have high oxalate in those foods, and apparently breast cancer cells have high oxalate in it, is it true? Also phytoestrogen feeds er+ cancers? Crucified green leaves foods maybe increase estrogen for breast cancer patients? Thank you X
Shakes are a great way to get nutrients and fluids. Options include fruit or vegetable shakes with milk or, for a non-dairy option, almond, soy, or oat milk.
I'm on Cytoxan and Doxyrubicin now, and it's horrible. The sight and smell of food makes me feel sick. I have nausea 24/7. I have lost 6 lbs in one week. Not sure what to do.
This sounds really hard. Make sure your medical team knows that you are suffering. It's common for people not to report nausea and the other symptoms to their medical team. In the meantime, ginger can help in the form of lozenges, tea, etc. Hoping you feel better soon. You're not doing anything wrong. Thank you for watching.
Hello ma'am I was diagnosed with breast cancer and my doctor suggested chemotherapy first then surgery ( Lumpactomy) followed by Radiation...What is ideal time gap between surgery and Radiation
Great question. Usually we recommend starting radiation therapy within a few weeks from surgery. Some people can start as soon as 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, but some people need to wait to heal completely.
Is paneer which is a form of cottage cheese in india safe for cancer patients after surgery and before chemotherapy? Also i recently found your channel and i w ish that god keeps you highest in his blessings....you are doing great job 👍
Thanks for watching and for your question. There is no reason to think that paneer is not safe. Obviously, we recommend everything in moderation, but giving up paneer altogether would be so hard!

Tell me diet for diabetic person along with breast cancer surgery
Great question. Your primary care physician can help with guidance about your diet. You may also be able to see a dietician for further guidance.
Is dairy ok? A lot of cookbooks seem to suggest plant based "milks", as in soy, almond, etc.
Dairy is okay, yes. Stay tuned for our upcoming video about dairy after breast cancer. Thanks for watching.
What about caffeine? Is it safe to drink coffee and tea? Thanks!
Everything is safe to drink in moderation. There's no reason to avoid coffee or tea. Ginger tea can be great for different treatment side effects.
Green tea is said to be really good for cancer protection
