Thank you Dr.Griggs likes your videos I know now what to eat during my chemotherapy very helpful to us all who’s facing our difficult situation @ this moment in time .
I will be having my 7th of 12 weekly chemotherapy infusions of Taxol and Herceptin this coming Monday. This past week I have just begun to notice that food has taken on a metallic taste. It's not horrible, but it definitely is unappetizing to eat these days. Thankfully, I have had no nausea. The 40 weeks after the 12, I will be having Herceptin infusions every 3 weeks. Hopefully, once I stop the Taxol, my taste buds will improve. Thanks very much for your videos. They are very helpful. Diane
Taste changes during Taxol treatment are quite common, and the metallic taste often improves once chemotherapy is completed. In the meantime, you might find relief by using plastic utensils, adding citrus to meals, or experimenting with foods that suit your current taste preferences. We're so glad to hear you've been handling treatment well overall! Wishing you continued strength for the rest of your infusions. Check out our video on managing taste differences during chemo here: [ua-cam.com/video/_Fa3oC9AxSk/v-deo.html].
Thank you for this diet info. I wish my doctor would have given this to me. I have stage 4 breast cancer in the bone and have been on Enhertu almost 2 yrs.
We're so sorry to hear about your mom. While we focus on breast cancer, we hope the resources here can still be helpful, and we encourage you to explore ovarian cancer-specific support. Your mother is fortunate to have you looking out for her. Some people have said they have felt well when they water fast before and after the chemo sessions. Is that good to have on fast as you bodies glucose level will be lowered and cancerous cells will be starved of their fuel?
Cancer cells will get their energy any way they can. Short term fasting does not starve the cancer cells of their energy. Most people find that the nausea is worse if chemotherapy is given on an empty stomach.
During ovarian cancer treatment, focus on small, frequent meals that are high in protein and easy to digest. Options like soups, scrambled eggs, smoothies, and yogurt can be gentle on your stomach. Hydration is key, too-try water with a slice of lemon or herbal teas. Ask your care team if they have any specific recommendations for you.
Thank you for your question. Protein powder often contains high levels of phytoestrogens, particularly those derived from soy. It's important to be cautious with these products during chemotherapy.
In general, the less the food is processed by mankind, the better. Powders and shakes are processed forms of food. Trying to eat foods that haven't been processed is the best way to get nutrients naturally.
Hi dr , My mother has stage 3 breast cancer & undergone 4 cycles of cyclophospamide , Which is said to have risk of causing blood cancer Can you tell any suggestions to avoid the risk pls 😢🙏
For people with breast cancer treated with cyclophosphamide, the risk of leukemia is extremely low. There are no known prevention strategies at this time.
My father 62 years old and having Accute myeloid leukemia (blood cancer) 4th stage and having liver syrosys with HBSAG +ve and also having diabetic with avg 400 pts. Am in confuse state what kind of food i can serve him. Because some fruits and vegetables are good for blood but that increases the sugar levels. Please please please suggest good diet for fruits and vegetables and with veg food.
We're sorry to hear about your father's health challenges. We encourage you to rewatch the video for more guidance, but here are some specific ideas: For meals, you could try grilled chicken or tofu with steamed broccoli and quinoa. Low-sugar fruits like berries can be a good snack, and leafy greens like spinach or kale can be added to salads or soups.
Dr. Griggs, is it safe to eat store bought corn chips. Is it considered processed food. I have stage 4 breast cancer and having chemotherapy for almost 2 years now.
Regarding store-bought corn chips, moderation is key. While they can be considered processed food, enjoying them occasionally isn't likely to harm your health. Balancing them with a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is beneficial, especially during chemotherapy.
Yes, the video serves as a guide to the best foods to eat during chemotherapy, which can be beneficial for those undergoing treatment for ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) as well.
I was told. not to have kale as high antioxidants affect chemo. from working. Very confusing bc before chemo this is what I was juicing &;eating dark leafy greens.
My doctor told me that vitamin C and E shouldn’t be taken during treatment. Focus on your vitamin D and take with vitamin K for better absorption. Have blood works because sometimes our rbc decreases so you will know if how many mg of ferrous you’ll be taking. Focus on boosting your immune system.
Multivitamins containing antioxidants like vitamin A, C, or E should typically be avoided during chemotherapy in general as high doses of antioxidants may interfere with treatment. Watch our video here for a more detailed explanation about why avoiding antioxidant supplements during chemo is recommended: ua-cam.com/users/shortsbH8ojnsgEEI?si=ZtFXGrcIJPH2DRWy . With TC in particular, the drugs do not work through oxidation, so there is less concern.
Organic ghee can be part of a balanced diet during chemotherapy, but it's important to check with your oncologist or dietitian to ensure it fits well with your specific treatment plan.
Thanks for all your videos. I’ve just come across your channel. I’m about to restart chemo in a couple of weeks time. I’m hearing conflicting advice about raw fruit and vegetables. I love berries but how can I be sure they are clean enough when I’m immunocompromised?
People receiving chemotherapy were told many years ago that they should not eat raw fruits and vegetables. This recommendation is no longer made because it is not accurate. Washing produce is something we recommend for every person and this is sufficient for your safety.
Yes, carrots are generally safe to eat during chemotherapy and can be a healthy addition to your diet. Make sure they’re washed thoroughly or cooked to avoid any risk of contamination that could affect a compromised immune system.
Grass-fed kefir can be beneficial for gut health, but during chemotherapy, it’s important to avoid raw or unpasteurized versions to lower the risk of infections. Look for pasteurized kefir products if you’re considering adding them to your diet.
Check your peanut butter ingredients--some brands add palm oil, sugar, or salt. It should only be peanuts--maybe a small amount of salt, but at least not palm oil or sugar.
Yes, ginger is a great option! It can help with nausea, which is common during chemotherapy. Garlic, on the other hand, should be avoided if someone is on a treatment that lowers platelet counts or who is going to have surgery due to its blood-thinning properties. We hope this clarification is helpful.
1. ginger
2. protein : chicken, fish, eggs
3. whole grains
4. healthy fat : olive oil, avocado
5. leafy greens
6. hydrating food: watermelon, melon, pears
