My wedding was well under 1000 and didn’t feel cheap and tacky like this one did. Outdoor wedding like you suggested, a lot of luck getting a dress off Craigslist, family took the photos and I cooked the food and did my own hair and makeup and made my bouquet with flowers from Trader Joe’s. Man this made me cringe.
Yes, it can be done if done with some decent thought and planning put into it. For my wedding we bought a whole heap of flowers that I like'd and all of the bridesmaids and I made our own bouquets ourselves while we had a few drinks together and it was really special they were all very beautiful. My Aunty made the cake and helped decorate the outdoor wedding site. My sister-in-law did my hair and we did our own make-up and it was really nice to spend that time together at home rather than running from one place to another all morning on the day.
That's what I was saying! My Gram did her last wedding in her back yard for well under $1000 and it was beautiful and everyone enjoyed themselves, why is this mom buying literal TRASH for her daughters wedding!?
You would think so..but this mom is making the wedding about HER and her ability to to be "cheap" when in reality she's giving her daughter a trash wedding
Got my wife's wedding bouquet for under 25 bucks and it turned out really pretty. I went to a local florist, picked the specific stems we wanted, and they arranged them for free. I had actually called the same florist a few days before and asked about a wedding bouquet with the flowers we wanted and they quoted 150 minimum. The key is to never ever mention that it's for a wedding. It's a 'gift' or a 'decoration' - amazing what the markup is when people hear the word 'wedding'.
My wedding was a total of like $300. My cake was beautiful and it was from Meijers. My dress was thrifted and was $30. I homemade all of the decorations. we got married in a park on bridge under a willow tree next to a duck pond. We had a picnic after party and bought foot long subs for 15 people. Cheap doesn't mean trashy. I wouldn't of changed a thing.
Same. I paid the Justin of Peace to come to where our family was vacationing. I didn’t buy a dress. Told everyone. Wear what you want stay in your swimsuit. I was just happy to get married to my best friend and be with people who love me.
I agree that you don't have to spend a lot of money. I'm not married, but if I do, I would rather spend money travelling for a honeymoon, but this lady is so tacky about it.
I paid $84 to marry my husband in a chapel in Reno. I wore a sundress that was white with pink and grey flowers on it. We went to Olive Garden after. It’s been a decade next March ❤️ They probably would have been happier eloping without mom.
We got married in a courthouse almost 6 years ago, for about $175 total including the dress and marriage license. We also went to Olive Garden after 😂 I wouldn’t change a thing!
My wedding was the opposite- I wanted small and simple and my mom was like “No way. You’re my only daughter and I’ve been planning this your whole life!” 😆
the doesnt sound like a good thing like i could be reading it wrong but she said shes been planning it your whole life but its supposed to be abt yu and what you want again i could be reading too much into it i dont know the full situation but yeah
@@neenayannelli2334 i mean yeah dont get me wrong i understand tat but due to that alot of parents will go against what their kids actually want is what i was trying to say
You can't, because you don't work there, if an inspector catches you or better said the owner in the act she will have to pay for it, not sure about how much is in USA but in Europe it reaches thousands plus you may be charged with working place (which is a kitchen) contamination. In better words you will lose more than you may gain in months for a cheap garbage of a human being. Will be way easier to call the police on them and be done with it.
We actually did find my friend's wedding dress at a thrift shop and it was exactly her size AND still had the tags on! She was basically having to elope and was going to go to the court house and I was like that's fine, but you should at least get a dress, let's check the thrift shop. It was $75 and needed no alterations.
I got my prom dress at a thrift shop. It was small but I loved it and it was only $100. We knew of a very sweet elderly lady who did alterations for cheap for people who couldn't afford it, so we went to her and she turned the back of the dress into a corset for $20 and the cost of the materials (which was just two types of ribbons and she had matching thread).
I made my daughters wedding dress. My grandmother taught me how to sew & make patterns. My daughter wanted a dress that was several different designs put together. It turned out gorgeous. I made it for less that $300 & it looked like one costing over a few thousand. I even added the sm pearl beads in the floral pattern on the lace, accenting the wide lace on the dress & veil. (I dont like & wouldnt use the netting. It looks so cheap). It took a while doing all the details on it. But it was impressive.
Same!! I found a beautiful lacy dress, still with the tag and fit perfectly! I was 2 months postpartum, and we were eloping on Halloween. The white dress was a bit more so went with a classy black, and had so many compliments!
My husband and I got married while he was in the Coast Guard. We had almost no money so we had his mom and aunt plus his coworker who was an ordained minister. It's one thing to work with what little you have, it's entirely different from being cheap for the point of it. I hope they get a do-over
So I planned a wedding for me and my ex fiance (this is part of the reason we didn't get married and aren't together anymore) and the mother (or as I call her devil in disguise) took over. I didn't want to get married in their family's church but respected it because of family and religion. Wanted us to change our colors because she didn't like the color she would have to wear as a mother of the groom. I had a limit of 100 people because the church SHE picked couldn't hold more and she complained not enough of her family could come and insisted I cut down my side (mind you it was about over half the people there were hers) then tried to change our music because she didn't like the songs. She tried to correct my wedding dress because it had an open back and it showed off my tattoos. Wanted me to pay for a caterer so family wouldn't have to cook as well as maybe a decorator for the church. All while she had my family paying for the whole thing. I wanted to use my mom's old bouquet of flowers my great grandmother had made by hand with a Japanese inscription of love on it and she ordered a lilly bouquet (I don't even like Lillie's) instead because it was ugly. Mind you through all of this her son who was supposed to be helping make OUR wedding special let her act this way and when I would stand up for myself saying it was my wedding and his not hers. He didn't want half of what she was doing either but figured why not have his mother have HER day since it was her oldest son's wedding day.....I'm so glad I did not marry into this family
You were very smart to get out before she started trying to dictate other things. She sounds like the type that would relentlessly pester you for grandchildren and dominate the whole parenting process, right down to the names.
I'm happy for you that you got out, that was definitely the right decision. I hope you're surrounded in your life now by people who see you, hear you, and support you because your exes did none of those things
My husband and I got married for less than $1k including rings. We had maybe 5-10 people there and went to a park where we had our first date. Reception was at the pizza place we ate at on our first date. My dress was clearance prom rack, he had a suit, our cousin is ordained, and my friends and I all went to school for media arts so they did photography. Wouldn’t change anything for the world bc everyone wanted us to have an extravagant wedding and we did what we wanted. Celebrating 4 years in May 😊
Is that girl's purse strap a measuring tape? My original wedding was going to be in my uncle's back garden and his partner was going to do the flowers (he was a florist), My maid of honors mom was doing the cake. Some family was going to make food. Our small Polish wedding lol.. dress was discount and my husband was going to wear his dress blues. And it all had to be scrapped because he couldn't get leave lol. So my uncle bought me a weekend in Vegas for our gift, I still got the bouquet. He drove from CA for a day and a half. Still wore my discount dress and we went out to eat with the couple who drove him. Must have worked out. March will be 30 years.
Just be careful with this and read all the contracts you sign. Photographers will frequently have clauses to cover themselves since party photography is not the same as wedding photography.
Lol I tried to do that as much as possible. Then luckily covid downsized my wedding and we skipped DJ, changed venue to a much cheaper one. Had a 2nd chance to get smart & save. Made out GREAT!
@@jafafam5972 it just means that those things get charged more (for no reason, because companies are greedy and will use any excuse to charge more for no reason). Like the "Pink Tax" where womens items are priced higher than mens items (Like Razers and Deodorants/soap etc.)
The problem isn’t “there could’ve been better choices that were also cheap!” The problem is her daughter was upset. It’s HER day, her special day. I find the mother selfish she only wanted to save money for her own benefits and pleasure. The part when she said “we can get a discount from the rat pee” annoyed me so much. Like wtf it’s your daughters WEDDING and you’re treating her like a peasant.
If it's her wedding then she can pay for it. 🤷🏾♀️ I'd only be pissed if mom WEREN'T paying for it, but she is. Her decision how much to spend. Daughter doesn't like it? Pay for it herself. Same way if she doesn't like house rules, she can move out. Same concept. If she wants control over the situation then she needs to take control.
@@kiyokumabear Except Mom won't let her pay for her own. That is why she is not letting future MIL have a say or offer to cover costs. This is not about who pays. This is about Mom getting things for as cheap as possible everyone be damned. She is even worse for her second daughter's wedding where she sets a budget of $750. She even gets pissed that the 2nd daughter and her husband bought their own rings. You notice it isn't a situation where the Mom is "we are only willing to spend X amount, if you want more pitch in" It is "This wedding will be done for under $1000". The daughters go along because it is obvious over both shows that they have been steamrolled by mom's cheapness their whole lives.
@@kiyokumabear that's honestly such shitty mentality, especially for the situation. did we watch the same video?? seriously, if you think it's okay to do any of this shit, you aren't any better than her.
@@ramsfan515 you took the words out of my mouth, I was floored by the other persons response, it’s like they didn’t see the video at all and completely missed the point about caring for your loved ones and wanting their special day to actually be enjoyable. If she really wanted to save money so bad she should’ve not offered to pay for the wedding and let her daughter’s special day actually be special instead of making her miserable for her own benifit. The way she treats her own kid is so degrading, she’s going way too far to save money, and it’s clearly not because they don’t have the money to make it a nice event, it’s because she gets a thrill out of these extreme bargaining moves and will put this addiction above her own family
We had a court house wedding and then had a reception on the weekend where we rented out a restaurant with food and drinks for about $800. my family and friends loved it. Casual, fun and memorable.
That's what I don't get tho... My Gram had her 3rd wedding in her backyard and spent under $1000 for the cake, tent, ex. And it was wonderful and beautiful, I don't get this lady trying to get bullcrap for her daughters wedding???
@@brooklynnbailey4356 Because the wedding isn't about marriage it isn't about the daughter it's about being a crappy person who is delusional enough to think it was perfect and cheap. Its also seems like a power play like "even if you don't live with I STILL CONTROL HOW MUCH YOU SPEND AND WHERE YOU SPEND IT DON'T FORGET IT"
@@madisonlewe1057 i think its because of the word wedding. i would just get all the kids and women in the family and make our own cake. that's if you cant save 400 or less. creates memories and (if you know what your doing) a good cake.
Professional cakes are high priced for a reason. You’re paying for not only ingredients, which aren’t cheap unless you’re a huge company.. but you’re also paying for skill and all the time the person put into making it. Honestly most bakers grossly undercharge for the work they do. It’s hard work and long hours.
My mum makes the most amazing cakes and got asked by my cousin to make wedding cupcakes to cater to different tastes and diets (there were a couple vegan friends at the wedding and she wanted to make sure they got cake too). She knew that vegan cakes could be a little tricky, and she spent months working on three different recipes for the wedding to make them as perfect as possible, and the end result was so popular that not a single cupcake got left behind. The people at the venue were boxing up the remaining cakes cos everyone wanted to take them home, and the owner actually asked my mum if she was a pro baker because she would really like to sell those cupcakes at the counter. My cousin cried so much when she saw my mum again after the wedding. It had been so much more then she had been expecting. Those cupcakes are still talked about five years later and are now a special family recipe. I can’t imagine how much my cousin would’ve had to spend to buy the same thing from a cakery or something, especially the quantity. Only downside is that it took me nearly a year to want to go near a cupcake again after all that. Being one of only three taste testers for all those experimental batches will take a toll on you 🤣🤣🤣
We do charge more for wedding cakes in general though. We also include delivery in that cost, and set up because usually the cakes way well over 100 pounds. But if you really want a good deal on a cake for your wedding, don’t tell them it’s for a wedding we were automatically charge you a minimum of about $300. It’s just how the industry works. If you get just a normal two-tier, For about 100 people, in white with some nice designs, and then don’t tell them it’s for a wedding you could pay about 250. If you tell them it’s for a wedding you’re paying automatic 400. Because we’re going to insist that we deliver it because we know that people are dumb they can’t deliver the wrong case for some reason. I literally watched a guy say no I can deliver my own cake and then drop it right outside my store
My wedding was definitely under $1,000, and it was perfect! Outdoor, courthouse wedding, my mom made my wedding dress, my flowers came from Trader Joe’s. We had our reception the next day at our house, pot luck style, and my best friend made our wedding cake.
Sounds beautiful and still classy something doesn’t have to bankrupt you to be nice,I think the mum is selfish and is doing a lot of it because she’s cheap does not care and enjoys the attention from the shock factor she certainly does not care her daughter is upset! as for the mother in law she needs to man up! I would take my son and soon to be DIL to the side and offer to pay for there day to be special only if the mom does 0 planning, can you imagine how embarrassed her future grandchildren will be by her behaviour in public if I was her daughter I wouldn’t want her near my kids in public!
My mother and father used to own a restaurant, so that's catering taken care of right there. If you have a friend with a big backyard, and a pool, that can be the whole shebang. Pool party / wedding. I think it works great!
Honestly I'd rather elope, run off on a vacation and marry on a beach maybe bring a few close people, just have a reception/celebration at home when we get back maybe.
Lol literally a field *by* a highschool would have even been better because there wouldn't have been a ceiling falling a sort above you and natural lights
I would literally… tell my mom to f- off if she did this. She would never do this, but I’m just saying, I’d pay for it myself. I would NOT let MY wedding be all about showing how cheap someone could be. Be cheap somewhere else, not at my wedding.
The funny thing about all these scenarios is how much these people enable these cheapskates because they have no thoughts of their own. If my mom only had $1,000 to put to my wedding, I'd thank her and add it to MY budget. And I'm saying this because my mother is crazy too. If my mother tried to say "Well I'm paying for this so I deserve a say" I'd tell her to sit down because her money is contributing, but its not paying for anything. No! Even better, I'd tell her I spent her money on my rent. XD
@@madturtle8826 I mean it's not about the money. You can still have a nice and classy wedding and do it cheap. Like Ken said - do it outside. Or have a yard wedding if you or your friends have a nice house with a nice yard. I'd also say do your own decorations (didn't see any there), there are so many instructions available nowadays, like how to make cute fairylights out of a used jar, some flowers, lights, etc. And you could cook actual homemade food (for example potato salad is a super popular celebration-food in my country) and it would probably come out cheaper than tons of dry sandwiches. Friends could each bring one dish as part of their gift. Also the mom was soo fixated on the total being no more than 1000 just for the sake of it (so she could brag how she did it with this exact sum), leaving no room for small changes. I bet it could've been a nice wedding in under a 1000 but the mom or anyone didn't put in any effort (like I said, decorations, buffet and etc).
I feel like a justice of the peace at city Hall and a reception would be cheapest?! I'd be down to minimize the ceremony and.maximize the party. Lol I mean .. I'm not married so, I can't say, I know anything about the sentimental ceremony. But, I also feel like a wedding is all about a piece of paper that means nothing
I love the idea of an outside wedding, but you'd probably have to rent the place months before and you won't know what weather to expect. A storm or heavy rain can ruin these very easily, too risky I think, sadly.
There's a line between being resourceful and being tacky. This was all over tacky and I hope they had a second party that wasn't so embarrassing. They deserve the party they want and the service they want.
My sister went to the David’s Bridal clearance section and found a dress that was the perfect size, in the style she’s always loved for $90. It’s okay to be cheap, but keep it classy.
The problem with people like her though, is that she is too uneducated about going to such establishments. Sometimes we think Walmart is the cheapest, and get surprised that clearances elsewhere are cheaper. I once got a 12¢ office desk from Office Depot (it was part of their system where it rolled out of inventory as a loss - meaning the company already declared it as loss years prior and got their tax cut or whatever) either way, never will you find a 12¢ (yes, cent) desk at Walmart OR a thrift store or pawn shop. In fact, I got a lot of things from Office Depot from $0.12-$4.92 (the 2’s where how they identified them in their system). Anyways, all that just to agree with you that you can often times find better deals at the source brand new than going 2nd or 3rd hand at thrifts or pawn shops I feel bad for that girl and I don’t much believe in weddings
I used to work a lot of weddings as a musician, and let me tell you there are so many nice work arounds for cost. Flowers: Have friends with some land pick wildflowers and greenery, or my personal favorite was homemade cloth flowers that the aunts did. The bouquets were so cute and not intended to look too real (patterned fabric and such) and really fit the DIY feel of the wedding. They gave me a centerpiece and I still have a couple of those flower to this day. Cake: Just have a baker friend make one instead of a gift! You can make a plain 3-tiered cake for very inexpensive, no need to fake a display cake! Dresses: if you know your measurements Etsy has a ton of vintage dresses, and just get matching less fancy dresses from a normal store for bridesmaids.
@@doggolovescheese1310 my dude, I'm nearly gen z, yall gotta get out more. Most people have friends that can bake and someone's family with an acre of land, kinda how they were suggesting just going outside somewhere. Just sharing my thoughts as someone who's worked a lot of weddings and some cute stuff I've seen that didn't cost much
For a lot of places, if you dont tell them it's for a wedding specifically, you'll get normal "event" prices. As soon as you drop the word "wedding" prices are gonna hike up 🤷🏻♀️
Because a lot more time and effort go into a wedding cake. They are also made with better ingredients usually. Wedding cakes are hugely important and you are feeding a large group usually, they stack higher than your average birthday/event cake. Bakers take a very different approach to wedding cakes than regular event cakes.
@@omoidashu You are completely wrong. At least in my shop we use great ingredients already in all of our cakes. Wedding cakes are made more differently than any other cake and any other shop. And we don’t really take different approaches. If it’s a tier cake with some type of beautiful, fancy design it’s gonna take us a while anyway. With weddings we offer delivery, which means we have to take time out of our day to deliver. Which means were taking a decorator away usually on a Saturday to take your cake to some god-awful location, to put it on the most unstable of Stands, and then we make sure that your cake looks nice before we leave and sometimes leave and stay and cut it for you if you so choose. But if you really want to save the money, don’t tell them it’s a wedding cake. Look up how to safely transport a cake by yourself, that’s assuming if it’s three tears or less cause I really want to try to transport anything else, and then order it as a normal event cake. Because we’re still gonna have to take all that time out of our day to decorate a tiered cake with a nice design. We’re still gonna have to stack all the layers, make them sick, then ice the cake then tear the cake then with the cakes that then decorate it. The only difference is we’re not delivering it to you. I work in the industry and I can tell you right now, the process of a wedding cake is really not any different than any other cake. It’s just that we had to do a tasting with you and we have to pull at least two or more employees to deliver your cake which takes time away from other cakes. So basically when you book a wedding cake, you’re booking a delivery as well which means you’re taking the time of about two or three other cakes away from the business. And that’s why we up charge you now because we do it special. We do cakes just the same. that’s a complete fallacy
Had one week to get married. My grandmother made me a dress, hubby wore his dress blues, my husband's grandmother made our cake, family pitched in for the decorations and food. Got married at my church, no charge, brother-in-law bought me flowers. A friend who was the boss at a car dealership gave us a brand new expensive suv to drive for the weekend for free. It was great. Married 21 years now.
This is one time I would NOT mind everything being staged. I want to imagine that a lot of what's going on here is due to friends and family sitting back and letting Mom have her time to shine on this show she wanted to be on. Best case scenario, this was just a spectacle for the camera, and the couple had another ceremony later. This girl grew up with her mom being Like That, she's probably (hopefully) used to just rolling her eyes, playing along, and making her own plans later. The fiance's mom also does not look like someone who would quietly sit still and let this happen to their son on a normal day. Everyone knew the cameras would be there, and with one of those in your face it's easier to get someone like the Pawnshop owner to play along as well. I mean, I'm not too bothered about having a "nice" wedding, personally - I myself wouldn't mind doing something like that for a family member under the right circumstances.
I did help a friend out with being cheap for their wedding, they wanted pebbles as their centrepieces, they were gonna spend a stupid amount of money on it (one place wanted £5 for 10 decorative pebbles), I live 5 minutes away from a pebble beach, I scooped up loads and put them in a bucket, took them home, looked for the nicest shaped ones, cleaned them, varnished them, there you go pebble centrepiece! Well, it was all fun and games until I found a lil baby crab in the bucket that I had to take back to the beach
I got a beautiful 3 tier wedding cake that was delicious for $200 at a local supermarket that makes the best cakes in our smaller town. You just have to bring back the columns and separators after the wedding. There are lots of ways to cut costs if your on a budget. I did the flowers, made the veil, dress was $250 on sale, used the grooms family church for $100, and had some deli platters, cooked a couple of turkeys, and all the immediate family made a couple of side dishes each. I think we spent about $1000 in total, but it was beautiful. This lady may say her budget is a grand, but her budget in her brain seems to be 50 bucks for the whole wedding.
I got my wedding dress with a beaded bodice and needing no alterations no imperfections whatsoever for literally 15 DOLLARS AT A THRIFT STORE!! IT WAS ABSOLUTLY PERFECT!! I still have it for my daughter's wedding or when we renew our vows in 100 years lol
traditionally its the bride's dad who pays for the wedding. basically like a "dowry" situation to give her away. But barely anyone strictly abides by this tradition anymore. it's uncommon, which is much better :) everyone chipping in is much fairer
If anyone is planning a wedding I highly recommend doing some research in this comment section lol. Some people seem to have had beautiful weddings on a budget, and have shared their tips and tricks. Congrats to anyone who is about to tie the knot ..and wishing you luck, health and happiness
Protip: if you're getting married, sort out what you want and how much it'll be before you tell them it's for a wedding. As soon as they hear wedding, it's like Mr Krabs with dollar signs for eyes. "That'll be 400% more than it'll normally be, thanks"
There's some reasons for that though. Everything for a wedding is checked and triple checked, because if it is for someone's wedding, everyone turns into a Karen. "I see a fingerprint." " The colours are uneven." "It clashes with the table runners!" Seriously. People are usually prepared to pay extra for a wedding, but the expectations are through the roof.
@@JuMiKunot everyone. I'm not a picky person and I tend to avoid confrontation. The only thing I'd be close to picky on is my cake and dress which I'm totally fine paying extra for. Everything else, I can care less.
@@fanime1 Me neither, but could you say the same for the bloody guests? (People often give the brides a hard time, but it's usually guests that are super picky.) Anyway, even if at one venue everyone is nice and relaxed, the business won't know until it's too late. So they can't take the risk.
I've definitely been to cheaper weddings in the south, when the family didn't have any money so they did the arrangements out of wild flowers, grandma made the dress, and mom made a beautiful cake, and the service was in grandpa's barn... cheap doesn't have to mean trashy, this Karen just gets off from shocking people, it's not even about the money for her it's about the control.
I had my wedding for $500. Got a David’s bridal dress off of a lady from Facebook for $75, got a canopy and a 2 tier wedding cake from Walmart for like $100 total, my mom had craft supplies for decorations, bought fake flowers and a cake topper from Michael’s, had the wedding outside at a friend’s house and our family friend’s brother is a magistrate so he married us. And our wedding was really nice while also being crafty so you can have a cheap nice wedding
My wedding was in a church but I wore a wrap around denim skirt with a white blouse. Groom wore multi colored suspenders like Mork (tv show character) with denim jeans and a Tee shirt. Spent night in the Cow House Motel. priceless memory!
My wedding was less than $750. We got married in a beautiful botanical garden, in the rose garden, complete with a raised natural waterfall fountain and beautiful archways. We went to the place my husband and I had our first date for our reception, Steak n' Shake. My best friend photographed it. My grandmother made my dress, and my mother did my hair and we got fake flowers from Hobby Lobby when they were 50% off. It was beautiful, and there weren't many dry eyes in the place. It's a great day. One of the two happiest days of my life. The other was when our son was born.
Florists aren't stupid. You can't order a bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres, and then flowers for the center pieces and say it's not for a wedding. Also the price of the each stem of flowers doesn't go up. It's the fact that you go from 10 min for a nice arrangement up to two days of work for a full wedding which ends up costing you. The price of the flowers wanted, whether they are in season or not will also affect cost and of course labour. Plus delivery, setting up the center pieces day of wedding etc. Most things for weddings are like this. You can't compare a simple birthday cake you pay $20 for to a wedding cake made to feed 150 people. You can't compare a family session for photography to a full 12 hour day, plus the hours editing, plus making photo albums, delivery again for the products etc. So no, a lot of things cost more because there's more to it than just oh it's for a wedding suddenly this rose costs $100 a stem!!!!
@@SkibblesT I just made my own with fake flowers from the craft store. Did the same for my sister's wedding. Bought bulk flowers from wholesale websites and Oriental trading for centerpieces and saved a mint.

I can understand wanting to cut costs on weddings. They're expensive as hell. But what this woman did to her daughters (yes both daughters, she went even more cheap for her youngest) is shocking. I'd be surprised if they still talk to her.
My hubby and I did a last minute wedding with dollar tree supplies, pizza, and some clearance prom outfits. I baked my own cake and made the decorations. We spent well under $1000, but it was still nice. It doesn't have to be expensive. Just don't tell your parents if your intention is to elope. They really guilt trip you into having a party 🥲

He's only rich because he's owned his own business doing vinyl siding, roofing and electrical which he's making around 1-½Million per year. All he really bought was the Wedding bands, professional photography and food. It was over this woman's $1,000 budget lmfaooo!!!
Traditionally, the parents of the bride do pay for the wedding. Traditionally. When my wife and I got married, both of our families kicked in. Wife's mom mostly paid for a lot of the venue costs and my folks took care of the food and adult beverages. We also helped pay for stuff too. Neither one of us comes from a ton of money, but our parents really helped out a lot since they knew we really cared and loved one another.
Traditionally the brides parents pay for the wedding, the grooms parents pay for the rehearsal dinner and the brides dress, if your going by old school etiquette. But those rules were from back when women typically got married young and went from her parents home to being married, now that people wait later to get married and most people have their own incomes and live on their own before getting married it’s more typical to see the couple themselves paying for the majority of the wedding cost.
I thought mine was cheap at $2500 altogether, and $2000 of that being the dress. 🥴 Someone paid half of it off as a gift too. My mum worked at the venue, so that was free as well as the tablecloths. Friends offered to do the photography, the music, the flowers, the hosting, as well as make the snacks for free. Smaller decorations were bought at the Dollar Tree. My mum made the wedding cake too. Everything was surprisingly beautiful, but it was because so many loved ones came together to make it happen. (We sent them money gifts afterwards as a thank you) We might've been even cheaper than these people if I'd gone with a thrift store dress, haha. I realize that's a highly unusual circumstance, but generous loved ones can definitely make a difference.
Dude..kens detail to the small things in the background and buffpro's laugh alone makes me happy and just wanna laugh along with him. I love y'all videos.👍😂😂😂😂
My sister had a beautiful wedding for under $5000. My cousin had a shotgun wedding for like, $500 haha. My best friend's wedding was probably like, $10,000. And honestly we all had a great time at all the weddings! All three couples are still married and all were able to put money that they saved from their weddings toward their first homes. I used to be obsessed with weddings but I'm 34 and have been single for like 5 years, by choice. If I end up getting married, I could never feel comfortable spending astronomical amounts of money for one day. What matters is your future together, and starting that with a mountain of debt is so stressful.
My church was free to get married in and we had the reception at the church as well. No cost at all for venue and saved tons on fake flowers except for my bouquet, some boutonnières and our moms’ corsages. It’s easy to work around cost if you really look at it.
Rewatching this after my aunt and uncle's wedding and we made their flowers out of paper and they ended up being very cute, and it was a nice bonding activity before the wedding
I would rent a few of those huge outdoor tents (like $85 a day) and some mats :D Grandes knowing me rain would fit my wedding kinda. Unless it’s super windy 👁👄👁
We spent a total of 2K on ours and it was amazing. Found a flower wholesale place and my bridesmaids and I made all the bouquets, boutonnieres, etc, I love making flower arrangements), bought our dresses new at a dress warehouse, a friend had opened her restaurant (beautiful country inn) the year before and asked us if we could be her and her hubby's experiment in throwing weddings (we still are featured in their wedding brochure), we'd get the venue and a horse drawn carriage (not kidding, a carriage) for free and just have to pay half price for the food per guest. I have a ton of friends who are musicians who volunteered to play sets for food (we payed them too, because it didn't feel right not to give them anything). Another friend and the venue (because they needed them to advertise) took pictures for a really good rate. You really can have a beautiful wedding for cheap, you just have to look and be resourceful, it's not necessary to go seedy and barbed wire back door deal.
Pro tip: say you're planning a family reunion and you can book venues, DJs, cakes, catering, etc without the wedding premium cost. It'll still be pricey, but not 20%-extra-just-because-it's-a-wedding pricey.
Solution 1: wear a non-white dress, and pick something a bit more casual Solution 2: All you gotta say is that this one couple decided to elope right before the reunion and showed up in their dress. You can't do a formal first dance, toasts, etc, but it's pretty easy to get away with. The venue, dj, etc. all have contracts, and as long as you uphold your end of based on the legal language of the contract, they cannot back out without repercussions. Besides, if they're already there and they've already paid, they're not going to storm out with $3k worth of food. It costs more for them to walk away at that point.
The father of the bride paying for the wedding is over like a thousand years old. It's from when unmarried daughters were considered a liability, so the fathers paid for the wedding almost like a "'thank you' to the groom for taking care of my daughter for the rest of her/your life" thing. Though that's more of a Europeans/early America explanation, many different cultures have/had similar traditions though they vary in detail. As far as I know, it's still somewhat common thing in America; at least in the south. And the groom's father would/will pay for the Rehearsal Dinner. Though I think more people still chip in to help costs where they can.
In the mexican culture we get family members who would be like sponsors. Like for a church wedding you will have somebody pay for the church cost, dress, rings and other small stuff. It's cool but it's also kind of awkward to ask people to pay for stuff because it gets expensive.
@@diddikong700 I understand, my wife is Mexican. While her stepdad is white and went by the tradition I stated above, her biological dad and many people from his side (and some from her mom's side) contacted us asking if we needed help paying for things. It was very nice of them.
My parents got married on the Puffing Billy train back before that was a normal thing to do, and the biggest expense was hiring the carriage. My grandmother made the dress, my uncle filmed it and put it on tape (he and Dad had a small film company at the time), the train took them to the Packing Shed where they had dressed up chairs and set the food and cake out on tables. I’ve seen the footage and it was a beautiful day, and it didn’t put anybody into debt to do it. I hope to have my wedding the same way some day, on that same train with the people of Puffing Billy that have meant so much to my family.
I think traditionally the brides parents pay for the wedding. But that doesn't mean the grooms family can't pitch in, or the bride and groom take care of sone expenses either if it bothers them that much. Seems like they got a completely free wedding 🤷🏻♀️ Also, this is finally the first cheapskate to say to buy a box mix for the cake so I can't hate her that much. As a baker, seeing them haggle with these mom and pop places make me cringe. Now about the dress, honestly I know I can find a wedding dress in the hood for $100. Might be itchy and not the best material but it's $100. Or better yet, go on Amazon! 😂
Right? There's better options on Amazon and even with how small some of their sizes run that girl would have fit into them. You can even hit up bridal shops for clearance sales! I got a new dress for a hundred bucks from David's Bridal because I actually did research and went while they had a sale 🤦
So my boyfriend and I talk about being married one day. My family has some money but they aren't rich. My boyfriends family isn't in the same position so I don't know how the paying for the wedding would be. I know my family says they will sponsor different parts of the wedding as long as his family help with something. I am afraid that they won't be able to and that'll start something .
I was one of the lucky people that had paid for wedding planners etc so all we had to do was show up and tell them what we wanted, yes it was very expensive compared to just dyi'ng things and sourcing things, but we had the understanding that we weren't only just paying for the products but also for the people's time and services. That's why things are cheaper when YOU do it yourself. I recommend DYI'ng if you don't mind the effort and searching, sourcing things yourself, but if you can pay for the wedding planners etc, it's very worth it, they are trained to make your day as memorable as they can with the services they provide. It's not as bad as people say it is.
My wedding was under $1000 and didn’t feel cheap but also traditional weddings are not our thing so we saved on things like cake, flowers, dress, venue We worked at a beautiful 1800s theater that we use for free for the ceremony and then went to an upscale restaurant for dinner with our family (most expensive part but my dad payed for it as our wedding gift) and later we went to a speakeasy to celebrate and had a blast So basically had to pay for our outfits and photographer Bonaroo was our honeymoon lol

Got my wife's wedding bouquet for under 25 bucks and it turned out really pretty. I went to a local florist, picked the specific stems we wanted, and they arranged them for free. I had actually called the same florist a few days before and asked about a wedding bouquet with the flowers we wanted and they quoted 150 minimum. The key is to never ever mention that it's for a wedding. It's a 'gift' or a 'decoration' - amazing what the markup is when people hear the word 'wedding'.
I love how the mom tried having the wedding in a highschool instead of a park, you know, *a nice outside place for free*
Generally you need permission & pay a fee for an outdoor venue as well
Parks are not free

We got married in a courthouse almost 6 years ago, for about $175 total including the dress and marriage license. We also went to Olive Garden after 😂 I wouldn’t change a thing!

Asking her to borrow her display in exchange for "exposure" was probably just as bad if not more insulting.
We actually did find my friend's wedding dress at a thrift shop and it was exactly her size AND still had the tags on! She was basically having to elope and was going to go to the court house and I was like that's fine, but you should at least get a dress, let's check the thrift shop. It was $75 and needed no alterations.
That is really rare luck
It was meant to be! Weddings are expensive af, that's shopping smart!
My husband and I got married while he was in the Coast Guard. We had almost no money so we had his mom and aunt plus his coworker who was an ordained minister. It's one thing to work with what little you have, it's entirely different from being cheap for the point of it. I hope they get a do-over
They won't get a do over
maybe with the tlc money they can do a real one
Yeah I hope they save the money and do a renewal of vows or something.
That went down the mountain not the hill

Tips to save money: don't use the word wedding. It's commonly known there's a wedding tax. Just say party.

I'd only be pissed if mom WEREN'T paying for it, but she is.
Being one of only three taste testers for all those experimental batches will take a toll on you 🤣🤣🤣
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
We do charge more for wedding cakes in general though.

I'm thinking of doing that as well since it won't be terrible...
I'm so glad that Ken said it! You can go to a park at most parks have a pavilion that you could rent for super cheap like 50 bucks......
Everybody brings a dish. You get one cute cake from Costco and like six sheet cakes
Mine charged for over $100! ...I had to snag an empty gazebo without the town knowing and hoping there was no event ahead of me, lmao.
@@redrhapsodos6630 and it worked?
I love the idea of an outside wedding, but you'd probably have to rent the place months before and you won't know what weather to expect. A storm or heavy rain can ruin these very easily, too risky I think, sadly.
There's a line between being resourceful and being tacky. This was all over tacky and I hope they had a second party that wasn't so embarrassing. They deserve the party they want and the service they want.
Tacky doesn't even do this justice. This wedding was GHETTO!
i think we watched very different *Scooby Doo’s…*
there’s normally a spooky owner of a theme park, rather than *a murderer* 😳
nah they have to be the same, right? 😳
My sister went to the David’s Bridal clearance section and found a dress that was the perfect size, in the style she’s always loved for $90. It’s okay to be cheap, but keep it classy.
Alteractions done at David's bridal are expensive go to a mall for them
The problem with people like her though, is that she is too uneducated about going to such establishments.
Anyways, all that just to agree with you that you can often times find better deals at the source brand new than going 2nd or 3rd hand at thrifts or pawn shops
I feel bad for that girl and I don’t much believe in weddings
Online there are beautiful dresses for under $200, it's insane! I imagine you'd spend on alterations but that's likely off the rack too
I used to work a lot of weddings as a musician, and let me tell you there are so many nice work arounds for cost.
So first we need a baker friend and a friend with land, noted
@@thedoctor3528 do you not have those?
@@rachelr3484 nah Karen most millennials have friends that work three jobs and are barely making rent 🙄
@@thedoctor3528 so first we need a friend…
@@doggolovescheese1310 my dude, I'm nearly gen z, yall gotta get out more. This isn't just a wedding, it is the story of a Karen coming of age.
priceless!!
Very traditionally, the Bride's parents pay for the wedding. But we live in modern times and everyone should pitch in lol
You guy's laughter is 1,000% contagious. Thank you guys.
@@omoidashu yet but some companies usually make stuff more expensive with the excuse that it's for a wedding
Only place I would argue this with is cake and photography. Everything else it's just "a party" *wink wink*
Congrats.
Well year 2000 was a different time. I doubt any boss at a car dealership will let you lend a new car for free now. Even if they are your friend.
Flours ... lol it's ok Ken it made me laugh when you typed that in 😆 🤣 love you guys both!
They should’ve just done a courthouse wedding honestly. Cheaper, less stress, and less Karen’s

This lady may say her budget is a grand, but her budget in her brain seems to be 50 bucks for the whole wedding.
the fact that she loves her money more than her daughter is killing me inside :''
it ain't her wedding, i would hate to be remembered as "that wedding"

I got my wedding dress with a beaded bodice and needing no alterations no imperfections whatsoever for literally 15 DOLLARS AT A THRIFT STORE!! IT WAS ABSOLUTLY PERFECT!! I still have it for my daughter's wedding or when we renew our vows in 100 years lol
There’s better wedding dresses for 50$ at the thrift stores....
A white sundress would've been better. At least itd be clean
David’s bridal had a whole $99 and under dress section. 😂
traditionally its the bride's dad who pays for the wedding. basically like a "dowry" situation to give her away. But barely anyone strictly abides by this tradition anymore. it's uncommon, which is much better :) everyone chipping in is much fairer
mom is paying because dad divorced her crazy ass after 2 weeks.
Much easier and faster as well
Tradition where? It's a big wide world out here.
Also, with most people getting married years after having moved out and being financially independent, it doesn't really make sense.

Flowers are free from cemeteries.😂😂😂
(People often give the brides a hard time, but it's usually guests that are super picky.)
Anyway, even if at one venue everyone is nice and relaxed, the business won't know until it's too late.
Right. I'm from the south and my friend had a wedding in the back yard and we all just brought food. The most they spent was on the weed.
I paid $100 for my dress, brand new, off the clearance rack. No rat pee, either 🤣
Are we not going to talk about how Ken spelled flowers “flours” 😂
Exactly what I was thinking lol
😂😂😂
Best way to save on any wedding stuff is not to say it's for a wedding. Especially flowers! The instant the word "Wedding" drops, the prices go up.
I'd be pretty careful doing this though. Especially with catering and photography because there is alot more that goes into it for a wedding
@@INGLINFILMproduction That's a perfectly reasonable thing to do (literally what I'm doing haha). We are really just saying that "adding wedding adds more $$$" is a over generalization. Sometimes yeah thats true, but there is alot of effort that goes into wedding stuff which is why it's pricey.
@@dariankent yeah, I see your point. I think I may have been a little too zealous and impulsive with my comment XD just something I've heard from friends who have planned weddings. I think the most expensive thing was my dress for my wedding XD plus I only had my sister in the bridal party as my MoH.
My Uncle had his 2nd Wedding outside of the house he paid off and built from the ground up and he's rich.
I love that Ken has become the bullshit detector "What'd he say? Lemme check google I'ma find out"
Big mood
Traditionally the brides parents pay for the wedding, the grooms parents pay for the rehearsal dinner and the brides dress, if your going by old school etiquette. But those rules were from back when women typically got married young and went from her parents home to being married, now that people wait later to get married and most people have their own incomes and live on their own before getting married it’s more typical to see the couple themselves paying for the majority of the wedding cost.
Most brides and grooms pay for their own wedding nowadays
I didn’t know the grooms parents paid for the bride’s dress!
“Wedding flours” lol 😂
When she gotta organize the funeral:
"Nah mom you getting thrown in a ditch"
Backyard weddings can be so much nicer than.... a highschool gym.
Probably cleaner too
I thought mine was cheap at $2500 altogether, and $2000 of that being the dress.
Cheapskate and a Karen? Is she like a mini boss?

Laughs about almost misspelling the word wedding. Proceeds to misspell flower. lol 😂😂😂.
i love how ken searched up "wedding flours" after getting messed up by "weeding"
Pro tip: say you're planning a family reunion and you can book venues, DJs, cakes, catering, etc without the wedding premium cost. It'll still be pricey, but not 20%-extra-just-because-it's-a-wedding pricey.
They'll be happy with you when you show up in a wedding dress.
But when the DJ or the venue find out it’s a wedding, can the cancel? Or demand more money? It’s something I’ve always wondered
@@chelseac8855 I suppose they have the power to do that, but it would be a pretty scummy move.
Solution 1: wear a non-white dress, and pick something a bit more casual
Solution 2: All you gotta say is that this one couple decided to elope right before the reunion and showed up in their dress.
Pro tip: don't marry in the USA probably the oy country that ads a tax for a wedding.
With the shit I went through I'd love to see my dad pay out the ass for my wedding and then let him watch my partner walk me down the isle.
Me and my husband paid for our own wedding. And we also paid for are own house. This women is absolutely ridiculous.
I saw the title involving "Karen" "Cheapskate" and "Wedding" and was waiting for the huge anime crossover for so long I'm going to enjoy this
LOL love the way you worded this! 🤣
Damn, when Ken said, "You know where else you can get flowers.." I was hoping he'd reference the lady and the funeral home in the previous videos.
I think traditionally the brides parents pay for the wedding. But that doesn't mean the grooms family can't pitch in, or the bride and groom take care of sone expenses either if it bothers them that much. Seems like they got a completely free wedding 🤷🏻♀️
Also, this is finally the first cheapskate to say to buy a box mix for the cake so I can't hate her that much.
My wedding was under $1000 and didn’t feel cheap but also traditional weddings are not our thing so we saved on things like cake, flowers, dress, venue
We worked at a beautiful 1800s theater that we use for free for the ceremony and then went to an upscale restaurant for dinner with our family (most expensive part but my dad payed for it as our wedding gift) and later we went to a speakeasy to celebrate and had a blast
So basically had to pay for our outfits and photographer
