SHANE VAN GISBERGEN TALKS ABOUT HIS WIN AT PORTLAND, HIS LEARNING CURVE AND HIS FUTURE IN NASCAR

- Shane Van Gisbergen loves America where he's settled down near Mooresville, North Carolina. He's adjusting well and finds the area charming. He's not a fan of commercial air travel in the states, but that's probably just a reflection of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Van Gisbergen spent some time with the media to chat about his win at Portland, spinning out Sam Mayer - and the apology - his learning curve of all things NASCAR, especially OVALS and what his plans for Cup Racing in the future looks like.
Have never seen SVG so buoyant and happy to talk, he’s a different guy much more open with the media and able to show more of himself! It’s great to see and makes me smile too, have a great season and give them heaps! 😂
unfortunately, that's because you can't be like he is in this interview in supercars but it is good to see him be him.
Yeah, he seems really happy and having fun (unlike supercars). Great to see. A happy racer is a fast racer.
Very different interview format and the questions actually have integrity.
The way he’s describing what he’s feeling driving the car is nothing like what we used to get from him here, the way he’s expanding on answers shows just how much enthusiasm he has for what he’s doing.
Never been a big SVG fan, but I’m really engaged with this challenge.
Brother you are so correct he’s never ever spoken so fluently and fluidly. This is the best interview of all time better than the people who like doing them
Fantastic interview ...... congrats SVG ..... ' pedal 2 da metal man ' only winners grin & you havent stopped grinning throughout this journey ... well done fellow Kiwi .
I think we all know he's on a learning path. Coming off the truck, never seen any of the tracks. Riding in the rear, learning how they work! obviously he's got skills on road courses, we know that. But if he figures out oval? He could be a real threat to go places. The transition from of disciplines is a rather rocky road, few have been the rare exceptions. I think this guy can do it, if he stays passionate.
Love your life Shane, you are only here once. Stay Safe Mate we are all behind you.
Some forget that SVG is a Rookie in Nascar. 🇦🇺
We L👀K forward to experiencing his Progress in year 1.
Yes,we need to remember what he said , a year of learning first!
Now he's in the playoffs he can let his hair down and have a crack and not be so reserved.....looking forward to his next race. Got get em Giz!
Watched svg on the sim tonight in a formula 4, drifting sonoma uphill section in the rain. Dudes a fucking boss
Did he actually

Kia ora! Awesome to see Shane just being himself, good humble Kiwi.
“A change is as good as a rest”.
No more proof than seeing Shane talk the ears off everyone here.
He was so defensive is Au, and the questioning was always aimed at causing rivalry & resentment.
Guess he was just tired of it, and now look at him.
Dam fine driver of any car
Where he belongs racing nearly every week
"He didn't high five me about it"
That was damn funny. What a great line. How can you not like this guy?
Hahaha that's just standard Kiwi/Aussie vernacular bro!
damn SVG has really come outta his shell since hitting the US...
he seriously hated the media BS here.... and i dont blame him.... they made him come across as arrogant... great to see his true colors!
Have the same thoughts here and I don't blame him either (re the media BS). I've written previously that he looks so much happier this year and it shows, he has a great natural smile, and you can't fake that. Hope the rest of the year is just as great as the beginning.
the difference between this interview and Newcastle last year is amazing,
@@scottnz411 i forgot about that!... what a shitshow!
Great to see shane having fun, supercars is a loss without him.
I can already see it, "KIWI SVG WINS THE DAYTONA 500". Man if only the likes of Greg Murphy went international. Make us proud Gizzy!
He could, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Dale Earnhardt won 34 races at Daytona but it took him 19 tries to finally win the Daytona 500. There is a massive amount of luck that goes into winning that race, and there are so many things that are just out of the driver's control. I've never been that big on the 500, it all comes down to getting someone to push you across the line.
Thank you for posting this one! I love watching SVG. Very interesting guy. Good quality.
So glad Shane did get this chance for the change of career into NASCAR. Would have been sad to see him still racing in the Aussie V8 supercars as it was really obvious he was not happy last year & 10 more years of that would have been hard. Now this year, we get to watch him race just about every week and his is just all joy and the future is only looking up for him and his fans.
They're a great bunch of race drivers out there, love this Xfinity series it's brilliant in its own right...He sounds like he's loving it.
It’s good watching it as an Aussie watching for the first time but way too many ovals and shit ovals too
@@TwoFourFourFourif you hate ovels then your shit. You either be in the club or watch something else, your choice.
@@Kamik62
Ovals are something that many outside of the US don’t really get.
Circuit and road courses are where many have come from as it’s the dominant form of racing in most places.
And be nice, calling someone “shit” because they don’t like ovals shows a lack of respect.
And learn to use “you’re” instead of “your”…..
Have a great day.
@@billy4eyes512 they'll shit talk our Xfinity/2nd tier drivers for noo reason, dispite SVG struggling to climb back up to first , they will keep saying that he is "better than everybody on the grid". So I think saying "shit" to him is fully warranted especially people who don't know crap about Nascar and think Xfinity drivers are cup guys , which is hilarious. Btw Little Grammer mistake don't mean crap cause it's the Internet. Get use to it.
@@Kamik62 They had a Nascar track in Australia at Calder in the 90s was popular for a while when Ambrose went over was covered on TV newer fans probably not used to Oval racing as it's popularity died off...
Fantastic interview. Thanks guys! 😀👍
Oh no😂 it's not that specific airport😂 he's over there where they're extra extra nice to you at airports and everything is super smooth
Never forget watching Shane run on the grass down main straight at Sydney MotorSport Park, to keep his wets cool, what a race! All the guys literally drifting in the wet.❤
That was at Bathurst
@@chevynz No it was Sydney motorsports park ua-cam.com/video/gAzcz6GPAUM/v-deo.htmlsi=XnScDA_vHBg-CTuN
@@chevynz no it wasnt, was sydney
He did it at Bathurst too
Go the GIZ
I just enter SVG and wow its all there.
Just love it Great win and many more to come.
SVG is a great guy! Supercars loss, America’s gain.
His kick was pretty good ... for a race-car driver. (Maybe he could get a part-time job as a punter in the off season.)
Great to see Shane relaxed and enjoying what he's doing again. can only wish him more success 🇦🇺
Damn sure we follow Shane, look and listen to the guy, he’s humble, honest and very very sincere, he will build a huge following in America to, hell we love the guy, are very proud of him and most of all we want him to do well, he puts Australia and NZ on the map, he enlightens Americans who we are , how alliances happen and build, how e interact, how alike we are, he’s a really outstanding young man and a fantastic ambassador for us……he’s just quite simply a top bloke……and if he can ruffle your yanks doodle dandy feathers up well all the better
Big things to come for SVG
never watched the media gaf cause NZ and Aus media suck and only want to shit stir but all the people who have interviewed him so far have bought tech questions experience as a driver and so much more so as a fan im learning so much about Nascar as a kiwi and Gizzie is loving this style ya'll do when its mic time cause i never seen Gizzie talk so much way cool just awesome
Man ! This dude can drive .🤘🏻🏁
Onya Shane ❤
I was at portland for that race, it was fun seeing how good he is at these road courses, how he can out brake the others and the car control he has
exactly, noy a lot of xfinity drivers have raced track, it a total game of chess, something they will learn, its about making the front car go and be where they dont want to be , just to try and stop the back car getting through, and same for the front on defence.
Probably Mayer showed that up, if your in front in a corner limit the amount of room the rear car has to get through.
Though the mentality of Nascar car might make it harder, but if they learn to race , and not smash the front car they will get better.
IF HE IS LET TO DO HIS THING & NOT HAMSTRUNG BY NASCAR EGO HEADS HE WILL GENERATE INTEREST WITH HIS GENUINELY NICE PERSONALITY & HIS DRIVING FLARE!
What about shane saying " racing in a quality series" what about hailie deegan ??????? Hahahaha just kidding , do they have a " record" for most " d.n.f. s in a season ????? She has to set that record !!!!! 😅😅😅😢😢
Man ! This dude can drive .🤘🏻🏁
Ok in the rain, my arse, Bathurst in the rain is crazy, and he is crazy fast in the rain at Bathurst
svg is the freaking goat i cant wait to see what he does next in his career, he is the next Marcos Ambros but I think he has the chance with this new car to win a good chunk of nascar races
Pitty you can't hear the journalists very well,at least I can't hear what they are saying😉
Sorry. Can’t mic everyone in the room.
@@chris8video no that's ok,didn't know that, that's how it works,I would have thought the venue would supply A PA system with mics
Captions help...
@@gerardcrabb4556 I was listening while working with tools in my hands.
try headphones seemed better for me
Never taken any notice of Nascar till this year. Go the SVGG
Lets go SVG! dude has such a good vibe
WOW!
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR, AN ALL ROUND GREAT GENTLEMAN & PERSONALITY!
Shane is really happy, he is the man, so committed to achieving results !!! and also helping out Will who is another great guy !!!
Well SVG Has a personality. Not being a smart arse. Obviously he was being very suppressed by Supercars controlling ways and maybe his own....not sure but I have never seen him this happy.
Love seeing Shane’s enthusiasm and love of racing, it’s a nice departure from Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin who seem like they are absolutely miserable driving a race car.
I'm so impressed ! We never really seen this side of gizz down here in Oz! For a 35 year old rookie ,he sounds like he's living the dream ! Like a kid in a candy store! Relaxed funny n genuine! N still admits he's learning !
Thanks for the upload Chris!! 🇳🇿🫶🏽🚀
Im just happy for him, thanks for the video.
Shane Van Gisbergen Is Awesome
One of the few drivers, in any of the top 3 series, that I root for.
U look so happy VIS. VERY PROUD OF YOU.
Such a class act
I wonder if the red bull cap is an Easter egg
How so bro? He's been an RB sponsored driver for time. Still is, or he'd be wearing others far more regularly.
Thanks for the vid but you don’t have to rewind many times as such a bit annoying
Top bloke met him few times in perth he is the best guy in the pits
That's cos Supercars sucks go the giz
Not taking anything from van but bro u got to win at the circles to win a championship.
exactly i think thats the challenge, on track if they didnt have stages (still dont get those) he could get away better, but Nascar its like if the guy behind me doesnt hate me ive got a chance
Its Ovels, your obviously new
@@derektitch Stages are to encourage drivers to race hard all race to win extra points (i like that) But i Hate that they stop the race under yellow have the cars follw pace car for like 5-6 laps everyone pits then the race starts again. would be way better if pit lane never closed and it was up to teams to decide when to and race never stopped through the stages. Get way more racing laps and brings in way more strat options Imo
Kiwi as - Keep representing Aotearoa ❤
Australian is isn’t he?
What is all this about. He is there for the money and I don’t blame him but don’t make him a hero.
Think he would have been on good money at Redbull was not keen on new cars and media pressure trying to fix things... Not in a top team learning probably not on much money except if he wins...
Do your homework son, this guy has raced in virtually every type of racing bar formula one, and WON all of them, he's an exceptionally talented driver....
1:47
No one's making him a hero, they're just glad someone different and straight forward has arrived,
I've watched a bit of NASCAR driver interviews, and they just BS and blame everyone else, Shane's different,
And for sure, everyone's in for the money, it's his job after all, just like you,go to work for the money,so why not him
Just cannot but like this Chap. But his talent is there also, I am a Fan.
