To be completely honest I believe the umbaran story arc is one of the darkest, if not the darkest in the CW series. Not only do we see an endless onslaught of clones dying, wounded being dragged and writhing in agony, disintegrations, and a leader like krell, there was also the part when the clones attacked each other. One of the most emotional moments I've ever seen in TV or movies was the look of absolute shock and horror on Rex's face when he realized he'd been killing clones. How frantic and desperate he was, when he is supposed to ALWAYS be in control. Clones are made to not fear and not break under circumstance but when he saw that he'd been killing his brothers he LOST it. And then came waxer. Seeing him dying, as he realized what he had done and how he was going out, the confusion and pain in his voice- and when he cried before he died- this is personally one of my favorite stories in all of the clone wars, simply by how it portrayed the war in a way that the other story arcs couldn't. It showed the gritty, dark side that we don't get to see very often. We were able to see the agony of the clones, without the help of the Jedi, just clones. I will remember umbara, and the 501st.
I love how Dogma was being comforted when he said that he had to. The clones see each other as brothers and it’s only natural they care for each other as such
Dogma: How ‘bout another joke Krell? Krell: No, I think we’ve had enough of your jokes. Dogma: What do you get Krell: I don’t think so. Dogma: when you cross a loyal clone with A GENERAL THAT BETRAYS HIM AND TREATS HIM LIKE TRASH? Krell: Call the Council! Dogma: I’LL TELL YOU WHAT YOU GET. YOU GET WHAT YA FUCKING DESERVE!
Have any of you ever really seen Disney movies? Pirates of the carabian, hunchback of Norte dame, something wicked this way comes, return to oz, any of the Marvel movies (except dead pool). Those are only a few that may not have been meant for kids
This arc was incredibly dark. Particularly the part him taking down clones left and right we rarely get to see sabers cutting down people. He seriously went the extra mile with the hand to hand combat. Especially the back breaking kill....
Yeah i felt very sad seeing Pong kill those clones. Seeing him killing good soldiers and on top of that, him enjoying every bit of it. We see Grievous kill clones all the time but Pong killing clones just hits differently for me. Im so happy he's dead, he deserves every bit of it.
I partially agree ..only to add that Krell was a cowert in nature who was leaning back whilst the attacks against the enemy took place. His slaughtering of clones after his betrail had been found out was him acting out of fear for facing trial. That shows in plain sight what a cowert and big ball of scum Krell actually was.
He deserved it alright, but it was still a surprise that one of them was able to pull the trigger. Krell clearly didn't think they would take that step. In the end, he still underestimated the clone soldiers he saw as inferior to him and that was his downfall.
@@Mario87456 As I said, part of it was that he assumed that they wouldn't and couldn't pull the trigger. It is easy to have no fear in the face of death if you don't know that death is coming.

@JSB Justice would’ve been him having his force ability stripped by the council and then imprisoned for life or at least until Sidious began ruling as emperor and killed krell in the same way he tried to with Luke.
I love how they specifically chose Pong Krell, an absolute monster of a character, to belong to the same species of one of the most lovable characters in the franchise
I also find it a little hilarious how Mike Stoklasa of RedLetterMedia argued, in his Plinkett review for “Attack of the Clones”, that Dexter’s species would not be functional with lightsabers if one of them happened to be Jedi. Yet here we are with General Krell, one of the (former) Jedi warriors most brutal and badass in combat. It is as if the creators of this show watched Mike’s video and took him up on his bet.
@@markcobuzzi826 Is Red Letter Media even relevant nowadays? Given how much Prequel-era content has made a resurgence in recent years, it would appear that the purists who wanted to go back to a time when the Original Trilogy was everything Star Wars are being ignored.
@@sambridgers9543 Well, nowadays, RedLetterMedia's reviews of The Last Jedi and the Rise of Skywalker seem to be channeling a lot of the same sentiments many Star Wars fans have about the latest sequel trilogy. Yep, as someone who was closer to Krell than any other clone was willing to go by showing absolute obedience, Dogma probably felt the greatest sense of betrayal of all the clones. Kinda like what Mayday would later say in Bad Batch: "We were good soldiers...we followed orders...and for what?" When betrayal is one of the cardinal sins you could commit against a clone, forcing one to unwittingly kill their own brothers in combat when they had followed is the most heinous act of treachery imaginable. Dogma would have never lived it down if he hadn't pulled the trigger here.

I just "discovered" this show around a month ago, my only regret... Why didn't I watch it before?! I almost can't believe the level of quality this series have, let alone the writing (which in my humblest opinion surpasses the prequels and new saga, as a matter of fact now that I think about it, I've learned to appreciate more the prequels now.) The Umbara arc in particular was so raw and mature. What a shitfest for the mighty 501st and what a terrible price to pay for another victory in the battlefield, certainly Pong Krell has been one of the best villians of the series... Perhaps even the franchise. Better late than never I guess, Im so glad I finally gave it a chance, specially since the 6th season is so close!!!
Started watching on the first month of 2022, and i have to say I'm also impressed by the show; it's far better than all Star Wars movies combined together.
@@BLCKKNIGHT92 1st half of the 1st season is hard to watch as an adult, tho. Because I think the producers aimed for a young audience. But from the second half on it gets better and better. Only thing they didnt get right was to make Grievous too funny / not scarry enough. In the 2003 Clone Wars cartoon he was very overpowered and could kill many Jedi (thats why he has all the lightsabers). In this animated series he cant kill anyone.
A small detail I appreciate is that the angle of the shot made sense. The burn on the wall from the blaster was to the left of Krell when he fell straight forward, so if you were keen enough, you would be able to tell who actually shot him, even before the camera panned. Such an amazing show, honestly.
It still blows my mind how FREAKING GOOD the Umbara Arc is, even after all these years. Everytime I rewatch Clone Wars, each viewing experience gets better and better.
The truth is that, by this point, the Jedi and the Republic were doomed. Even if, miraculously, Anakin had seen through Palpatine's tricks and Order 66 had never been enacted, too many Jedi (like Krell and Barris) had gone Dark. The Republic was cracking apart both politically socially and getting too used to war and having a standing army to support. There would still have been a civil war; it would have just been uglier and more random with multiple factions like the new Darksiders and various non-Separatist secessionist groups as well as power factions looking to seize Palpatine's unprecedented political power for themselves. The Light would probably have triumphed in the end but the old order would long since have gone to a ruin.
What always made me emotional and furious about this scene is Dogma is such a damn good clone. He does his mission and follows his orders, and to be betrayed and forced to kill your own blood just feels so gut wrenching.
Krell betrayed because he has a slight premonition about order 66 and palpatines plans. He probably didn’t know what exactly, but in his head the republic was doomed. As Krell said "A new power is rising. I have foreseen it, the Jedi will lose this war." Krell already knew and decided to betray so he wouldn't die. He decided to betray so he could become a Sith and gain power, as he said he serves his own side. He was willing to destroy and kill for power and to become a Sith apprentice. A coward and shameful Jedi
I don't think Krell knew exactly what would happen. He specifically stated wanting to be Dooku's apprentice, but if he knew about Palpatine then he would have well known the Rule of Two would never allow his survival. It's far more likely Krell merely saw a vision of the Republic being torn apart into the Empire, and the Jedi destroyed as a result of a plot by Sith. Krell wasn't the only one who had suspicions about the end of the war, but he ultimately knew no more about the Grand Plan than anyone else in the Order.
Krell was such a dick to Clones for those who Say Anakin is too wreckless you r right but do note Anakin fights beside his troops and would've ended the Umbara Campaign in less time and fewer casualties
The look on Fives face when Krell is talking about the fall of the Republic is so intense. God damn it, these Troopers MADE the show what it was. I'm so pissed Disney cancelled it.
That’s crazy because Fives, Rex, Jesse and Dogma all were told about the republics fall.. fives found out one piece to the mystery with the inhibitor chips, rex found out another with Darth Sidious, Jesse carried out order 66, that leaves Dogma
@DraculaCronqvistrather than making them reveal all republic tactics and everything and in the circumstances of enemy getting closer it's the wiser thing to do to deal with traitor
This scene is an irremediable overthrow of events. A revelation that alters the course of things. Pong Krell is right along the whole line, concerning the Clone Wars, the Republic and the Jedi Order. All is the fault of the Jedi Council and Senate of the Republic, and they still refuse see and recognize. And by their own fault, the inevitable gonna happen, unfortunately, as she predicted. To believe that the Dark Side said maybe the truth.
+David Castagnet Granted though it's worth mentioning that Pong Krell was entirely wrong about Dooku. He might have seen the powerful Sith Lord that Palpatine or Vader would be and imagined one of them to be Dooku in another form, considering this conversation. It's just as well that he was executed, I doubt Dooku would have allowed for this plan or for Pong to be brought back in Rebels as an Inquisitor, which is literally the best scenario he could have hoped for.
He had the element of surprise when he turned, the clones at the temple were the ones who were surprised and overwhelmed by an army of clones. Sooner or later each Jedi was gunned down before they could even get any distance from the spot.
But we have to assume he would’ve still had his visions of the fall of the jedi and attempt to warn the Jedi and they might have been more prepared for order 66
I can imagine Krell fighting the Clones in the Jedi Temple at night. That would make for the BEST FIGHT SCENE man. I think he’d survive aswell, it seems that in combat he’s pretty unrivalled by most Jedi.
How poetic. No trial where he can weasel away and earn Palpatine or Dooku's favor, not Separatist Forces coming to liberate him, and killed by the beings he hated the most.
You know people always talk about how shows like Clone Wars and Avatar aren't kids show. But let's be real, these are the kinds of lessons that kids need to learn.
Getting that shot of Jesse being uncertain about hearing about the fall of the republic and the Jedi really hits after the irony of the final seasons last episode.
Anakin: Master, Cody can you excuse us for a few moments? He seriously went the extra mile with the hand to hand combat.

Ya it was dark thay the clones had to use flashlights and nvgs to fight
I partially agree ..only to add that Krell was a cowert in nature who was leaning back whilst the attacks against the enemy took place. His slaughtering of clones after his betrail had been found out was him acting out of fear for facing trial. That shows in plain sight what a cowert and big ball of scum Krell actually was.
I was really caught off guard when he actually got executed.
He deserved it alright, but it was still a surprise that one of them was able to pull the trigger. Krell clearly didn't think they would take that step. In the end, he still underestimated the clone soldiers he saw as inferior to him and that was his downfall.

@@sambridgers9543
Well, nowadays, RedLetterMedia's reviews of The Last Jedi and the Rise of Skywalker seem to be channeling a lot of the same sentiments many Star Wars fans have about the latest sequel trilogy. In that regard, one can argue that Mike Stoklasa's content is still relevant.
Also, while I don't agree with everything expressed in his Plinkett reviews and think the prequel movies do have other good parts (especially Revenge of the Sith), I still think some of the points in those reviews were valid and compelling. And I still find parts of those reviews to be entertaining in general, enough to occasionally revisit them for a few moments.

As the clone trooper whom believed in him the most, it's only fitting Dogma executed Pong Krell.
Yep, as someone who was closer to Krell than any other clone was willing to go by showing absolute obedience, Dogma probably felt the greatest sense of betrayal of all the clones. Kinda like what Mayday would later say in Bad Batch: "We were good soldiers...we followed orders...and for what?"
When betrayal is one of the cardinal sins you could commit against a clone, forcing one to unwittingly kill their own brothers in combat when they had followed is the most heinous act of treachery imaginable. Dogma would have never lived it down if he hadn't pulled the trigger here.

Key word, _was_
The truth is that, by this point, the Jedi and the Republic were doomed.
Yup, complete coward.
Should've warned Yoda and the Jedi in the first place.
To be honest the jedi council probably wouldn't have listened
I don't think Krell knew exactly what would happen.
He specifically stated wanting to be Dooku's apprentice, but if he knew about Palpatine then he would have well known the Rule of Two would never allow his survival.
It's far more likely Krell merely saw a vision of the Republic being torn apart into the Empire, and the Jedi destroyed as a result of a plot by Sith.
Krell wasn't the only one who had suspicions about the end of the war, but he ultimately knew no more about the Grand Plan than anyone else in the Order.
Plus he just hated clones in general.
He would have been a brutal inquisitor if he lived
I hated Pong Krell as a kid, I didn'tfeel remorse after he died especially after that one scene. (You know what I'm talking about.)

PlutoPlutProductions Right! I think the same for both, although the reasons are different.

PlutoPlutProductions Indeed !
If he was an apprentice to Dooku, imagine him with 2 double bladed red sabers.
How would any Jedi fight that

Jesse
Originally it was gonna be Rex, but they figured it wouldn't fit him. Dogma however fit perfectly.
He was gonna be a major character until they realized how expensive it was to animate him.
Fives finding out about Order 66 wasn’t the beginning of the end. This was.
I love how fives checks his holster so gingerly I don't know why but him gently tapping it always cracks me up
One of the most evil characters in the series
+billy Siravo jr I disagree,he just got clones killed while Dooku was threatening the whole republic and Maul murdering a lot of jedi with a smile.
So clones are less worth than jedi?
+Narjumanji Dooku went insane after his padawan (Qui-Gon Jinn) died. Really, it wasn't Dooku's fault
Plus there was the time when Dooku was ordered to kill the True Mandelorians. After feeling guilty about the massacre he left The Jefi Order.
@Rosonett Dooku was a well-intentioned extremist, while Maul loved his brother and mother. Krell has zero redeeming factors.
Dogma: "I...I had to. He betrayed us!"
Rex: "Eh, whatever. He was gonna get shot either way. Doesn't really matter who did it."
If Krell stayed good till order 66, he probably could've held off the clones at the temple.
He had the element of surprise when he turned, the clones at the temple were the ones who were surprised and overwhelmed by an army of clones. Sooner or later each Jedi was gunned down before they could even get any distance from the spot.
If Krell had been at the temple he wouldve went with Windu to arrest palpatine. Fisto really couldnt even put up much of a fight against Sidious there
But we have to assume he would’ve still had his visions of the fall of the jedi and attempt to warn the Jedi and they might have been more prepared for order 66
