If the 2020 US presidential election is close, the race could drag on in the courts and halls of Congress long after ballots are cast, says lawyer and political commentator Van Jones. Explaining why the customary concession speech is one of the most important safeguards for democracy, Jones exposes shocking legal loopholes that could enable a candidate to grab power even if they lose both the popular vote and the electoral college -- and shares what ordinary citizens can do if there's no peaceful transfer of power.

So, Technically India has always been a democracy/republic .
edit: the time before the British raj also doesn't count, since the idea of India hadn't been conceived, the subcontinent was home to empires that came and went, Thousands of kingdoms and princely states during that time.

The fact that we are even having this conversation at all is just really sad to me, and shows how far we've fallen.

This guy is in for a HUGE surprise of his f’n life if he thinks he is going to override the voice of the people like that, trust me. We’ll shove protests right up his a$$. I didn’t vote for him in 2016 not even being well informed back then because I was busy with college classes and I didn’t have as much downtime to focus on the campaign at that time. I got a bad feeling about him and he seemed fake, so I knew I shouldn’t trust someone like that so readily. Haven’t trusted him a single second. He hasn’t fooled me a single second. He is the pretty much one of the worst types of people and shouldn’t have been given a leadership position anywhere near this level. Anyone with a good head on their shoulders knows this. I’ve been hearing a lot of good people speaking up on UA-cam and that is great! Made me cry. They have courage. I have pride in our America and that is something that someone like Donald Trump can’t take away from us. We will stand. Trump, back off. Don’t mess with us. He better be careful. He will have to watch out if he doesn’t have security guards around him after this, like all the time. Keep threatening and making our people afraid and he will find that he should be afraid of us. We the people will give him essentially one option, “GET OUT OF HERE!”

The voting machines have been rigged for probably 20 years. Here’s a plot twist. It seems that there has been a color revolution taking place over the last few years. Now, with Covid and these other agitator groups and events that seem to cause great unrest are moving people in a particular direction. I’m starting to think that Trump is playing a role that he was initially installed for. That role is to be a further chaos agent to increase the polarization and anxiety of this nation. As much as Democrats hate Trump and frequently bring up that he didn't win the popular vote, I've never seen anyone argue that he isn't legally the president. Of course, plenty of Democrats object to the Electoral College as undemocratic, but there is a difference between advocating for future constitutional reform and disputing the outcome of a past election.

This is foreshadowing. We won’t get a concession speech this year by the losing candidate. Riots WILL break out (not a threat, merely reality this election) Hillary has already told Biden to NOT concede should he lose. As well, Trump will not concede. It’s going to be total chaos this year.

The Electoral College is needed or else every election will be decided by California, New York, and Texas.
Google “Electoral College”. It’s not a difficult concept:
1. The popular vote of every state is compiled.
2. Based on the outcome of the Popular vote in their *region of their state*, the Electoral College members then cast their votes for the winning candidate for that state.
Laws of the Electoral College differ by states, and this is where the confusion emanates from.
The Electoral College is very much needed to prevent a few densely populated states from deciding the Presidential race EVERY election cycle. *Their are no “elites” in the Electoral College*.
*The people who make up the Electoral College are regular people chosen by each state for that election cycle only. They are NOT “elites” free to vote for whomever.”
Once they cast their votes, bound by their state laws, the Electoral College is then completely dissolved until the next election with new members of regular citizens. They cannot vote for whomever they want, they are legally bound to follow guidelines and laws of their state.
*The Electoral College is very much needed!*

While Hitler did win a plurality of votes in the general election and the subsequent run-off election, according to Germany law, he still would not have been able to govern and instead form a coalition to exceed the 50% threshold that was (still is) needed to form a government. But it was Reichspräsident Hindenburg who broke the stalemate since there was no way that the NSDAP would form a coalition with either the Communist Party or the Social Democrats. Furthermore, Hitler's subsequent faschistoid power grabs (Enabling Act, etc.) all but canceled a general election in 1936 by design.

No offense to anyone out there, however if his support base would only take two minutes next time to really listen to Trump's lack of logic and even common sense, and pay attention to the way he lies to us on a daily basis, they would at least stop supporting him. I can't speak to nor know the validity of your examples, but I do know this. Based on a very consistent pattern of behavior by the current President and persistent shunning of all norms associated with the office, it's not unreasonable to have real concerns. Al Gore never gave a concession speech on election night when he lost in 2000. Hillary Clinton never gave a concession speech on election night in 2016. Both of those candidates were Democrats. Why is this man preaching about the importance of a concession speech on election night?
As a German this reminds me of our dark history, not even a hundered years ago, when a man used "legal" ways to gain power and built the worst dictatorship ever seen. It HAS been addressed. The question is, who actually determines there IS fraud? Just saying so isn't enough. AG Bill Barr, the Cyber Security Division of the US, & the Department of Homeland Security, all ran by life-long Republicans Trump appointed, said there's no evidence of fraud. Regardless, the Trump legal team brought their "evidence" to several courts including the SCOTUS, and the COURTS determined there ISN'T fraud and the election is legal. So now, apparently, even the Republican controlled SCOTUS is in on the conspiracy to steal the election from Donald Trump? Not even the one place where our contests are definitively solved is to be trusted?
Come on. It's one thing to disagree on policy, morals, religion, immigration, etc. But this?? All on the WORD of the one guy?

Plus, when Trump is deemed to be the true winner Democrats are going to burn cities down, what judge wants to be responsible for that. Also many judge's lives and the lives of their families have been threatened. Once everything comes out and the American people are not censored from hearing the truth, America will look back on this election and the last 4 years as the biggest fraud and attempted coup d'etat the country has ever seen. Just because they hate one man, doesn't give Dems the right to destroy our election system. There are so many irregularities no honest person can read or listen to the now thousands of signed affidavits and think that there was no fraud. So are you going to explain away why mostly Republican but also some honest Democrat (specifically if they challenged ballots) poll watchers were intimidated, yelled at, kicked out and not allowed to get close enough to see the ballots, which is the whole point. When Ballots are counted there has to be a watcher from both parties to make sure each and every ballot is legit. That is the law and when you deny poll watchers/challengers access to clearly see the ballots, that right there by itself should be enough to disqualify any ballot not seen by both parties. Not to mention when you tell poll watchers you are done counting for the night and tell them to go home, wait 30 minutes until they are gone and then pull 4 suitcases of ballots out from under a skirted table and proceed to tabulate tens of thousands of ballots causing a spike of more than 90% Biden votes, more than enough to change the election in that state. Nothing else matters at that point, you can not count ballots without reps from both parties present, it's illegal PERIOD. Don't let your hate for one man totally destroy our country.

Again, every study into this topic estimates the rate of fraudulent votes to be somewhere around .0005% of all votes cast. That's only enough to influence an election if its extremely close, and none of the states are this year.
