I love how universal the experiences in this game are. Getting scammed by demons, trying to get free heals at the medical centre, skill changes screwing you over...seeing someone else go through it truly heals the soul.
fun fact! This game didn't originally have ANY voice acting, hence why sometimes characters don't move their lips at all! another fun fact! SMT has many strengths, but in the main games, it's not the actual 'plot' of the overall game, that tends to be one of the weaker aspects of the series, thus your confusion as to what the main character's goal even is.

She unknowingly got a demon that would be possible normally. 8:26 she recruits Will' O Wisp without thinking about it. Will' O Wisp is unobtainable until you gain a skill later on in the game, through fusion failure, or how she got it, during a new moon.
Never played SMT3, but my cousin did. That guy loved him his super-hard JRPGs, and SMT3 was the game that beat him. He couldn’t get past the Matador fight. It remains his greatest shame.
Funny enough, his experience in "super hard jrpgs" was probably his down fall. He was probably persistent on the idea of beating matador the same way you beat every boss in a jrpgs: grind and then tank hp. But smt is different, exp means shit unless you're trying to fuse a specific demon even then there are ways to be creative with demon fusions.
Matador's not difficult, you just need demons and a Magatama that aren't weak against his force attack--he'll just keep hitting you with that if any of your squad *are* weak to it, and kill you pretty fast.
@@brandonvu5429 That was his downfall. He knew HOW to beat Matador, but he wasn’t willing to go to the extra effort to gather up the necessary demons to fuse the ones he needed. He didn’t like that the game was forcing him to play a way he didn’t want to… Which I can sympathize with on some levels (I really liked using magic in Dark Souls 2 and then Dark Souls 3 nerfed magic into uselessness, which pissed me right off), but if a developer wants you to play their game a specific way then sometimes you just gotta play it their way. Not long after SMT3 he mostly stopped playing JRPGs altogether, and switched to SCHMUP games and Rogue-likes as his preferred method of feeding his addiction to silly amounts of difficulty. Probably not helping was that a lot of his favorite JRPG series either died out or release so slowly that he got tired of waiting for them. Oh well.
@@Fastollis I did so many magic builds in ds3 I don't think any nerfs they did were that impactful. The fact that they added mana instead of a limited number of uses actually made mage builds more fun for me.
Tbf this game isn’t very story driven, and the plot is extremely predictable. You see can see exactly where it’s going in the first hour. The focus was on the gameplay for this game
Ironically, I was the reverse of Crystal when it came to Isamu and Chiaki. She liked Isamu because he seemed more sane whereas Chiaki seems so full of herself; I liked Chiaki because she was somehow navigating a world full of demons despite being a squishy human whereas Isamu was getting himself the shit kicked out of him and always needing your help. Funny thing is, nearing the third act of the game, these first impressions cease to matter as you realise that literally _everyone_ is a bitch in some way or another.
Ah yes, the game where literally everyone turns into a massive asshole. Also the game I didn't realize had a merciful difficulty until after I had already pushed 25 hours in and had multiple mental breakdowns from dying so damn much.

I read somewhere that a ton of this games story was cut because producers wanted it a bit thinner. There were supposed to be way more interactions with the different characters. You can absolutely feel show much the game suffers because of it.
(Light symbiology spoilers I guess tho I'm not really sure it counts) Honestly, CrystAAHL going trough this game thinking "why am I doing this? I have no reason" is legit really symbolic and probs what the devs were going for and it's amazing, you are supposed to be a blank slate, because you begin by having no reason, one can nurture and develop inside you as you play the game and drive you towards an ending that matches the reason you develop.
That works only if you’re curious enough. Imagine you don’t know much about this series and this is your first MegaTen game. There’s a chance people might drop it bc of that exact reason. It takes a while until you know what you’re doing
@@sergiosalazar8702 This game literally was the first megaten games for a lot of us 20 years ago though, and yeah, it is quite challenging compared to SMT1 and 2, both of which are far easier games overall, but even then SMT3s overall difficulty is really not that big as long as you just take in mind the games systems, Persona 3 is harder then this though while P4 is a bit easier, and P5s biggest issue is that it is flat out just to easy, still love the game, but oh boy I dislike the difficulty in 5. It should be said the game also came with a manual so a lot of things where not as figure it out on your own as you might think, and playing around with the mutation system if you are the type of player to do so anyways, can make some absolute broken things before you even hit Matador, as an example skills like resist force will always mutate into null force, but resist physical does not mutate into null physical, though you can get it in another way using skill change. That manual though, was not included with the remaster...Which sucks... Though, luck and agility doing pretty much doing nothing while the manual say they do, was kinda a shitty move not gonna lie..... Every point in agility and luck in this game is overall a waste...... Especially luck.... To hell with luck...

In-game tutorialization was rarer in those days because video games came with this thing called an instruction manual that they genuinely expected you to read.

@@caitsith3.0 The NPC's are basically the tutorials that you need, they literally explain all the vital mechanics of the game in the hospital, even how the moon affects demons.
@@caitsith3.0 The moon has phases, this ones advance as you walk in the world, every phase affect demons differently, maybe entering a boss fight with a certain demon and moon phase will buff the magic or attack of some demon. Honestly relying on the moon phase is something you should not do, insted you should build your party with strenghts that cover others weaknesses ( sorry if my english is bad, not a narive )

Nocturne and the original Strange Journey on DS are the only SMT game that gave me a hard time, when I play the SMT and Persona series, I'd always choose the hardest difficulty, Persona is very easy but SMT on the other hand, fucking torture! Aleph is still my top Messiah! Anyone who thinks Nanashi is cool is lame! He had another Messiah's help not like my boi who fought from dirt to rise up! Also, he didn't hurt YHVH's feelings lol. Devil Survivor 2 is the closest Persona type of game you can get, it's pretty heartlighted compared to the first one and.. I can't believe only a few people enjoyed Demi kids! They're great. I was satisfied with the amount of direction in the early game, but I grew up playing NES RPGs like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest/Warrior, and Ultima 3/4. So I was very used to RPGs giving only limited motivations and goals. It seemed reasonable enough that the first step after surviving the conception was to gather information and track down the remaining humans. That lead to needing to find a way into the Nihilo Assembly, which lead to needing to enlist the help of the Mantra, etc. It is a very bare bones plot compared to a more character driven rpg like Persona, but it made sense to me. I can understand why it may be frustrating though.
I honestly love how if you go from first Playing Persona to Shin Megami Tensei that Persona fans get Personas mixed up with Shin Megami Demons which causes SMT fans to massively cringe

Hey to all the smt fans here, I just started playing smt 4 and its my first smt game (outside of P4G if that counts for anything) and while I am having fun, I dont understand how the demon scouting works. It just seems so random that I dont get how the system works. Any suggestions regarding that???
It doesn't always works but when the demon stars to request stuff like life stones and macca just answer in this order: >accept >refuse Since refusing a demon request is also a valid strategy And also yes scouting is very random at first but with time you should get the hang of that.
Sometimes after a negotiation the demon may leave but when you meet the same demon there's a chance that they remember you and join your team Just accept and refuse preferably with your resource, soon you will get more negotation skills which will make it easier to recruit demons and even talk to demons which cannot say words
Whatever you do, don't negotiate after three requests, they will either bail or straight up kill you because you were a pushover. IV scout dialogue is kinda wack, IV Apocalypse though is more organized than IV. There is a kind of pattern though: A childish demon likes playful answers, an older demon loves wise answers and a brutish demon (like Oni) loves tough-as-nail answers. The more you play, and scouted, the more you understand how their pattern works.
Drip megami tensei nocturne lore : Each reason represent a brand. You'll need to figure out if you want a world where only those whp have the drip will rule, one which everyone can have their personal unlimited suply of drip, one which all the drip will be removed from the world so everyone will be equal with no drip or go to the full shirtless ending.

Hey to all the smt fans here, I just started playing smt 4 and its my first smt game (outside of P4G if that counts for anything) and while I am having fun, I dont understand how the demon scouting works. It just seems so random that I dont get how the system works. Any suggestions regarding that???
It doesn't always works but when the demon stars to request stuff like life stones and macca just answer in this order:
>accept
>refuse
Since refusing a demon request is also a valid strategy
And also yes scouting is very random at first but with time you should get the hang of that.
And also fuse demons with bufu and resist zio you need that for later
Sometimes after a negotiation the demon may leave but when you meet the same demon there's a chance that they remember you and join your team
Just accept and refuse preferably with your resource, soon you will get more negotation skills which will make it easier to recruit demons and even talk to demons which cannot say words
Whatever you do, don't negotiate after three requests, they will either bail or straight up kill you because you were a pushover.
IV scout dialogue is kinda wack, IV Apocalypse though is more organized than IV.
There is a kind of pattern though:
A childish demon likes playful answers, an older demon loves wise answers and a brutish demon (like Oni) loves tough-as-nail answers.
The more you play, and scouted, the more you understand how their pattern works.

Funny thing, I started this game today too.
Drip megami tensei nocturne lore : Each reason represent a brand.
You'll need to figure out if you want a world where only those whp have the drip will rule, one which everyone can have their personal unlimited suply of drip, one which all the drip will be removed from the world so everyone will be equal with no drip or go to the full shirtless ending.
