- “EV come, EV go…” November was a crazy month. A huge thank you to all our customers! It’s fantastic to have seen so many UA-cam subscribers visiting us to buy their new cars, a real pleasure to meet in person but a big thank you to every plus all the staff here at R Symons LTD electric vehicles (“RSEV”)
Lots of model 3 coming onto the market as excitement about the imminent new highland builds and shipments to the UK are on their way! But sales have been great too so a lot of cars have in and out of our doors during November.
But don’t just take my word for it, I’ll share some of the latest statistics from Autotrader about EV demand, supply and market health .
As usual at the end of the month I’ll also run through some of the stats for our solar production and energy usage.

Had our car now 2 weeks from you. It is in your video above, M3 long range grey white interior 19" wheels. Already put 2000 miles on it. Fantastic fun. Visitied you on the Saturday as in the area, did the fiance with you, picked up car on the Monday after staying in Studland for a couple of nights. Excellent service. 2 year old car for £33k list price £57k, bargin. 2 EVs now as have a BMW i3 5yrs old put 90k miles on that car still going strong. Thanks Mark and Fay.

The monthly solar output curve that you showed briefly reflects my experience on the South Coast. The worst months are December followed by January and then November. It's not just the lack of sunshine due to short days and bad weather but also the low sun angles, especially with low-angled panels. I got just 15% of June's output in November which I think is very close to your figures. It's still well worth the investment!
Same here in Minehead , shortest day is soon so things should start to pick up from then .

Hi Richard, great update as always, thank you. I have to say you were the reason we switched to EV’s, there are many you tube ‘testing’ videos but RY Symons just goes far deeper. We have saved a fortune since moving to EV’s, we are on an great tarrif also Octopus Intelligent.
We have Tesla M3P, bought on the back your video, also a MG4 Trophy, thanhs to Team RYSymons.
Well done on your solar, yes of course not much daylight now but not long before we pass through the shortest day. My best day in November is about 30% of my best in Summer. Like many, I use the surplus in Summer to fill my EV, I do not export much so I do not even have an export arrangement, on the SEG I would only earn £10-15/annum so not worth bothering.

Great video as always, I noticed you don’t have any Taycans, rumour has it they are depreciating quite a bit, why is this? Just curious a video would be interesting? Is it a reliability issue? Your insights will be much appreciated.
Not heard of any major reliability issues. They are more noticeable due to the higher purchase price, so have lost more in cash terms. They also have a lower range than some competitors. The Taycan is a much better overall car than a Tesla though in almost every way (except for range and software). I think Taycans have dropped too far already and are now a bit of a bargain (relatively speaking, I know they are still expensive before I get comments).
Usual solar problem in the UK, winter is bad but the rest of the year really does help to reduce bills. Great to see you have been busy and that the EV sales are increasing.
Isn't the UK blessed with plenty of wind energy when solar energy is not available?
Since Scotland never betrayed the UK the way England betrayed the UK voting itself out of EU, lots of wind energy can be imported from Scotland to England to offset entirely the carbon based electricity production.
Worse than England can vote to harm themselves only the USA so cheer up and continue the good work with EVs.

Do you think waiting to purchase a used model 3 performance first gen, i would be better hanging on til february/march kind of time with the prices predicted to change if the market becomes some what flooded with deliveries arriving for the highland?

Glad you’re doing well there Richard, it’s well deserved. I do think a lot of the negative EV press is driven by manufacturers that don’t make a compelling enough electric car, and would prefer if people bought one of their ICE cars instead.
I suspect it is more to do with people realising what a con they are...
Nah, it's driven by the fossil fuel industry. They have huge influence with the media in placing expensive adverts and huge influence with right wing politicians around the world.
The Chair of COP28, a man whose country lives by oil said that he doesn't accept the science for reducing burning oil in the fight against climate change. He is trying to soft pedal a bit now but there are more oil delegates at COP28 than ever before.
I honestly believe, and this is as unbiased as I can be. The fact that dealerships had no inventory and the used car inventory pricing was so out of whack, this forced many car buyers and shoppers to EV's which created a fictinional bubble in their demand. Now that dealer lots are stacked and full, we see a decline in EV purchases.

I think I'd feel more conned if I was still driving into petrol stations and paying one of the highest rates of fuel duty in the civilised World. I pay around £400 for a year's driving (10k miles)...and my last service cost me £68. But hey, if you're good with having your leg lifted at your local Texaco joint, then crack on......

Maybe more Tesla M3 in the market in November and December 2022 was due to the release of Tesla Model Y Rwd in Europe? I got my MY Rwd LFP in December.

Gunna be interesting like you say over the next year when a lot of the tesla lease deals come up. I was offered 24k on a march 2022 LR with 16k on the clock on wbac. I’m sure there will be a lot of demand for 3 year old teslas at those cheap prices.

Hi Richard, What would you recommend for someone who's average mileage per year is 120,000 miles? With some days of 700 miles.
Current vehicle is Skoda Octavia diesel with 70mpg.
700 miles per day is crazy. That is over 11.5hrs driving at an average of 60mph constantly 😳. Do you pee on the fly? 😆. I think only a new Model S is likely to meet those figures in the EV world, but you may want to give it a miss. You are going to void a warranty in under a year at 120,000 miles p.a. and make the car depreciate like a brick (not worth extra premium). Go for a cheaper diesel that can hold the price better (and I am definitely an EV fan, so no negative bias here).

To be fair, other than the rear screen for passengers and slight aesthetic changes, not sure I would be taking the hit to trade up. The biggest reason to keep an older version, is to have the parking sensors, as the camera only versions do not work very well yet. Until Tesla introduce a 360° camera, I would go with one with parking sensors (until Tesla inevitably turn them off in older vehicles 😳).
Cybertruck won’t be legal as it stands on UK and EU roads because of the lack of meeting pedestrian impact zones and the sharp bends and lack of give with the SSteel used.

1) The nose is WAY lower.

Interesting people are selling their Model 3's now in anticipation of getting one in the next few months.
Seem to suggest many of these people don't really need these cars.
When one of our cars was out of action for a week life was stressful trying to juggle living with one car. Can't imagine doing it for 1-3 months! 😮

My Porsche Taycan 4s has depreciated £60 k in 2 years that’s 50% can you name a petrol or diesel model that did that . I doubt it
People seem to have spectacularly short memories. Except for the last three years, almost *all* cars depreciate ~50% in two to three years. Stuff like Bentleys and 7 series BMWs used to do so almost as soon as you drove off the forecourt. And when every now and then the world implodes financially, more expensive vehicles tend to do even worse. If you bought it expecting anything else then you have only yourself to blame.
Taycans are bad in this regard, but this isn't exclusive to EVs. The bottom has entirely fallen out of the market in many sectors, but weirdly not others, although I suspect that's only a matter of waiting a few weeks now. A Panamera wouldn't have done any better, fwiw, and two year old Range Rover Evoques may not be listed for buttons, but they are certainly selling for buttons at trade auctions.

Is anyone else having difficulties insuring EVs this year?
My health visitor has a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range, and her renewal has just come through. Last year she paid a touch over £700, but this year they want £6800! Crazy. Not as crazy as some of the premiums being quoted for Range Rovers, especially in London, but crazy never the less. Unless she can find a more sensibly priced policy, she's going to have to sell the car. Although, that's not a great option either, as she's upside down on her finance with. By a lot. The car was purchased when prices were higher, but since the 20% new car price reductions, the value of her used Tesla is worth that much less. Elon should have left well alone.

I just wondered why you specialise in EV's.Are they more desirable,profitable,reliable etc than ICE cars ?
But what happens in the future? New EVs are struggling to find owners. Even Porsche dealers are offering incentives. And you can get from stock. I was looking at a Macan GTS and the sales guy asked if I was interested in a Taycan! Second hand Taycans are dropping significantly in price. Even Mercedes is offering money off and 0% April finance on EVs. These new cars are the bread and butter down the road.
I really wanted a Macan GTS this time last year I was talked out of it by the dealer as even they said it was overpriced! for ref most decent ones I wanted were around £82/85k those same cars are now £72/75k lost over £10k in 12 months…not all rosy in the ice world either! Worst still GFV of the GTS was £32k after 4years.
Strange that the *Market Leader* has no problem while selling at "competitive" prices and making a profit?

A majority of EV owners charge at home, which is a major factor in the decision to go with an EV. Some EV owners rarely use public charging. I haven't used public charging since last year.....
How can you "see" a long wait? Unless of course you are in the queue yourself....
Never had to queue, however like many 90% of my charging is at home, only use public say 10 times/year. No not a Tesla.

Life is simple for a declining 70 yr old in CA.
PGE provides reliable power. Paid off Highlander reliable transport. Local repair shop is honest and reasonable.
I can operate comfortably without my watchers being burdened by my confusion operating additional poorly understood, confusing to operate and maintain stuff.
The Gavin Newsom green mandated future is not for me. It really isn't for many elderly persons.

Has anyone tried insuring a Tesla recently. Had a quote for a Y Long Range on confused and the cheapest was £3,500. That was more than the Taycan Turbo S, which was 2/3rds of the premium. Thankfully, Admiral Multi was significantly cheaper at £1,400 for Y LR (£1,100 Turbo S), but still more than double last year.
Apparently, Tesla parts are difficult and expensive to get and EVs in general are longer and more expensive to repair than ICE.
Funny though, that a Turbo S is cheaper to insure than a Y LR 🤷.

Well done 👏 easy to sell anything at a fraction of it's original cost when new. Porsche EV 120k new... now, at less than 12 months old it's value is around 55 - 60k and falling by the second... in truth, not a bad buy at that price, if you can find an insurer willing to take it on and you can afford the sky high premium they'll charge😮!
It's the same for most EVs. Btw, I'm just being realistic, nothing more.
In the end it's a matter of informed choice and affordability.
I did a quote on a Taycan Performance plus and a Model 3 LR two weeks ago, Tesla was £595, Taycan was £650 - not bad for a performance car.

What complete and utter misinformed nonsense. Volkswagen, Renault, Redwood Industries in the US, and probably others, have been recycling older EV batteries for a few years now. And Cleveleys Electric Vehicles, based in Gloucestershire, posted a UA-cam video around 3 years ago, of a battery pack refurbishment they carried out on a 10 year old Nissan Leaf. The work took 4 hours, and the cost was £500. You really ought to research the subject before you post such cobblers. Amazing how you describe an EV as being "soulless", yet you've never driven one or owned one... And where did you see the flames? Perhaps they were from one of the 300 ICE cars which catch fire in the UK every day?

Try doing a little learning. Fires - EVs are at least 10x less likely to combust than a petrol car. That’s a verifiable fact. Try absorbing that for a start.
Then maybe think a little deeper. What’s the most expensive part of an EV? The battery. So, if the car is being scrapped do you genuinely imagine that thousands of pounds of highly demanded, refined minerals would just be dumped in landfill? Think about it…. Do you think that maybe there’s a great business opportunity there? Maybe someone is doing it! And yes, yes they are! However, it’s a small sector for now, because contrary to the bullshit peddled by ignoramus’s EV batteries last a long time and there’s a very small number needing recycling at the moment.

You don't "lose" a fortune if you lease..... Your lease payments stay the same throughout the period of the lease. For your (frankly ridiculous) statement to hold *any* credibility or validity, you would need to know exactly what *all* buyers and potential buyers of used cars would want. You clearly *don't* know this, so your post is basically pointless.
