My god I was in class 10th, date was 1 March 2003, Mahshivratri on that day, and when India won this match, entire nation celebrated Diwali and Mahashivratri on the same day. what a feeling it was, before the match and after the match. When ganguly got dismissed LBW by Waqar on first ball , the commentator said that he had placed 3rd slip simply to create confusion in his mind and same goes for the placing of Afridi for Sehwag's dismissal. These two instances are reflective of the Pakistani bowlers' cunning back in the day and combine that to their skill and you've got a team full of deadly Vipers. It is in this light that one gets to witness how great a batsman Tendulkar was, excusing the dropped catch. And he intentionally took that single to get Sehwag off strike in Wasim's over, that's a team man for you. I remember every its bits and pieces of this game. Watched the Pak innings @ College on big projector screen and came back home to watch the chase in the evening. The Start was pure Bliss. Shock came with those twin strikes and then every grimace that Sachin had on his face, just sank our hearts. I mean the heart was pumping with each boundary but knowing his Pak team, the victory was never sure despite the great start. This WC Team is without doubt the best after the 1983 Team if not better. I have never considered the 2011 squad as good as this one. Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid were in their prime and Yuvvi, Kaif were just beginning to come up. And Indias bowling was a dream Srinath was outstanding, Zaheer inexperienced but quick, Nehra bowled out England. And then we had Bhajji and Kumble. Squad was so good, that Agarkar didnt even get a game. Sachin was the only one who Stood up against Australia in group match and once he was gone in the finals, there was no way India were going to win against mighty Aussies. 2011 Squad had some mediocre players like Chawla(cost us the SAF game). Indias batting was airtight but Indias bowling cost two games along with a high Total chase in the finals. I would pickup 2003 squad any time over any other squad. Playing in SAF, getting thumped by Champions Australia in Group game and then rising up to beat every other team until finals. Indias bowling was mesmerizing in SAF Conditions. Bowlingwise Games against NZL and England stood out. Rest of the teams had no chance against India

When ganguly got dismissed LBW by Waqar on first ball , the commentator said that he had placed 3rd slip simply to create confusion in his mind and same goes for the placing of Afridi for Sehwag's dismissal. These two instances are reflective of the Pakistani bowlers' cunning back in the day and combine that to their skill and you've got a team full of deadly Vipers.
It is in this light that one gets to witness how great a batsman Tendulkar was, excusing the dropped catch. And he intentionally took that single to get Sehwag off strike in Wasim's over, that's a team man for you.
I'd confess here that I've had my moments of dislike for Tendulkar as many do have, but these are the kind of innings which make you feel guilty.

I remember every its bits and pieces of this game. Watched the Pak innings @ College on big projector screen and came back home to watch the chase in the evening.
The Start was pure Bliss. Shock came with those twin strikes and then every grimace that Sachin had on his face, just sank our hearts. I mean the heart was pumping with each boundary but knowing his Pak team, the victory was never sure despite the great start. This WC Team is without doubt the best after the 1983 Team if not better. I have never considered the 2011 squad as good as this one. Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid were in their prime and Yuvvi, Kaif were just beginning to come up. And Indias bowling was a dream Srinath was outstanding, Zaheer inexperienced but quick, Nehra bowled out England. And then we had Bhajji and Kumble. Squad was so good, that Agarkar didnt even get a game. Sachin was the only one who Stood up against Australia in group match and once he was gone in the finals, there was no way India were going to win against mighty Aussies. 2011 Squad had some mediocre players like Chawla(cost us the SAF game). Indias batting was airtight but Indias bowling cost two games along with a high Total chase in the finals. I would pickup 2003 squad any time over any other squad. Playing in SAF, getting thumped by Champions Australia in Group game and then rising up to beat every other team until finals. Indias bowling was mesmerizing in SAF Conditions. Bowlingwise Games against NZL and England stood out. Rest of the teams had no chance against India

Was a 7 year kid that time and this was the match which made me interested in cricket. Was in bus travelling and my father was listening the commentary on pocket radio and he gave the radio to me to listen and keep informing everyone and I was like sachin hai na jeet jayenge. Amazing day it was as I became a cricket fan that day.
This match was a perfect example of 2 major factors :
1) In spite of having so many great players a team can't do anything if that team doesn't play as a team.
2) Ego clash destroy any mighty power if doesn't have unity .
