    The fact he had to stand on his hands upside down to make his face red to make him look drunk is dedication to his film. Thank you Jackie for making a great film.

      tamarensis It’s definitely up there In my opinion. I honestly think Hero and Drunken Master 2 might be tied for top spot. Yeah DM2 had better and more realistic fighting but the cinematography in Hero was surreal.

    I saw this on Netflix a week ago and loved it. The chirography holds up even today. I personally think it beats the heck out of all the fights scenes in the marvel cinematic universe and Batman v Superman's Warehouse fight scene and those are the best live action fight chrogrpahy's of this day in age, in my opinion. I can see why so many people love it.

    Jackie Chan is the Oriental Tom Cruise in my opinion. does all the own stunts they're both short. And they're truly the last Samurai

    • @conciseness.
      @conciseness. 7 років тому +8

      Anthony Ayres Fun fact: Tom Cruise is 5’ 7 (170cm, considered rather short for a caucasian male). Jackie Chan is 5’ 9 (175cm, well above average in all East Asian countries). Jackie is also 8 years older than Cruise, and his movies and their phenomenal influence precedes that of Cruise by at least a decade. So it would be much more appropriate to call Tom Cruise an American Jackie Chan.

    • @Viewer13128
      @Viewer13128 7 років тому +6

      Neither are appropriate because Tom Cruise cannot do anything Jackie did... Especially Drunken Master final fight scene, no stuntman can do that. Jackie is not just stunts, but also skills. Those moves require years of training in martial arts and acrobatics and sparring. Also, several stunts Jackie did are succeed or die stunts which Jackie said if he failed to grab on, he would have died. They film stunts on the go without time, equipment, and rehearsal. It's very different from an actor saying, "I'll do my own stunts." And the thing is, no actor would have the grip to hold on as they fell unexpectedly from a moving train/truck like Jackie Chan, or to leap and grab a rope. Watch those obstacle courses like Sasuke and see how many trained athletes lack the grip strength to scale walls or grab ropes from a leap. Jackie trained since he was 7 and trains from morning to night routinely. Not even stuntmen can compare to Jackie, much less an actor who does his/her own stunts.

    • @conciseness.
      @conciseness. 7 років тому +2

      So nice to meet another person who truly respects Jackie in the internet! Though I wrote it would be much 'more' appropriate to call Cruise as American Jackie Chan, I do agree with you. Neither are appropriate. I actually wanted to write 'an American Jackie Chan (wannabe)' but considering that calling someone 'someone of somewhere' or 'the next someone' already has some derogatory connotation, I decided it would be too disrespectful of Cruise and his achievements. After all, though not comparable to Jackie, Cruise is also an iconic figure with a unique style.
      Well, isn't it just so frustrating that most people do not understand the brilliance of Jackie's choreography and physical prowess and patience to actually nail a seemingly impossible sequence. I hope someday Jackie will find a kid with great potentials he could educate to become his successor, so that the 'Jackie Chan style movie' could live on.

    3:57 "power more than normal" Connecting one with the other.
    why would a drunken fist be more powerful than the regular? As a table tennis enthusiast, it made me think about China mentioned giving Ma Long (top player atm) a tiny bit of Wine before an important match to take away tension and stress. apparently their "secret weapon" (maybe it was inspired from drunken fist for all I know)
    "but, wouldn't that make him react slower and less explosive?" maybe..? but when you're in a slightly drunken state, you go with the flow. Energy transferring goes more natural. You usually don't doubt yourself or feel pressured. (as well as the pro of feeling less, lol) That's also why I believe Jackie said drunken fist was more powerful because the energy transferring goes more fluidly internal to the external, from waist to hand resulting in a more complete impact. Meanwhile also being more unpredictable of course...
    The base principles of several Kung fuu (and surely other martial art forms too in their own way) forms like, Thai Chi (chen, look up George Xu), Ba Gua Zhang, ( martial arts avatar: the last airbender (air and water) is based on) Nother Shaolin (firebending) also surely, but not as much as the former. Judo and Ji Jutsu also use similar principles in their own aspect (but more concrete to positions and situations obv). Most often used in "counter" situations, therefore you need to be quick enough to intercept a direct attack for it to work. (

    Since childhood I've had to correct people who never knew about the original film and just called this sequel "Drunken Master," which is the international title of the first film. It's just too bad - the original has way more to do with the Drunken Fist style, too. Kinda sucks how Beggar Su is never mentioned in the sequel, but maybe that's because the character went on to appear in other HK films in the late 70s and 80s. Anyway, both films are great!

    Legend of the drunken master is soo crap!!
    I prefer the original version. English dubbed where jackie chan doesn't use his own voice is well better than the crappy American version!!
    This includes
    Supercop aka police story 3
    First strike
    Dragon Lord
    Armour of god 2
    Twin Dragons
    Project A
    Unbelievable and totally mess it up.
