I'm very new to painting -- just completed my first painting (at the age of 50) following your method which I find extremely helpful. Your video on color mixing is so especially helpful for someone like me who has never painted before. Request: You frequently talk about the importance of getting the correct value when painting; Could you also do a video that goes into a bit more detail about how exactly to achieve correct values, similarly to your in depth video on color mixing? Thanks so much for your commitment to teaching painting. I am hooked forever, I do believe. Bob
Carder, thank you for the time you dedicate to teach us these things. I feel very fortunate to have bridges built by you to cross to achieve my goals. Thank you again, we love your work.
You've cured me! You actually already did in an older video, comparing strawberries in two paintings. But this video puts an explanation point on it. I wish I could find a still life I skipped useless Art classes to paint 47 yrs. ago. (I think I've mentioned this before). I tried so hard to paint the tiny dimples on an orange. I was, in essence, trying to teach myself. I eventually realized I was trying too hard. And I found myself eventually taking something closer to your approach. I WAS learning. If I only had you there!
This is honestly amazing. I’ve been wanting to learn this technique and yet art school has not even taught me this yet. This is very straight forward and very true. Thank you so much.
Boo Ross sir just I enjoyed your painting strokes....bring efforts of realty. ...really wondering to seeing in your hands.....gifted talent ! thank you
Yet another great and insightful video! Thank you so much. It is true that a lot of us wrongfully fix colours as we paint. Perhaps also because so many artists and painting tutorials out there seem to show artists complete small sections of their paintings 100% before they move on. And so when their results look good, you think this is the right way to work. Maybe it is for some, but not for most I think.
Very helpful, I have never heard anyone explaning how to aply the paint on the canvas with such deep insides.Your painting is superb. Please, could you tell me who painted the straberries still life? Thanks.
Thank you for this video. I agree painting is all about illusions. Once you stop trying to replicate every single detail and just paint the whole picture you will get better.
Should one do the same with a portrait painting? I try to blend the paint on a portrait painting. Sometimes I have difficulty by doing this because the lights and shadows.
but the question is, how you can saprate texture? how you can makw peach to look like peach illusion and a shiny gloss jar to have the glossy illusion?
This is (as usual) a great video, but it is Mark Carder's not Allen Riddell! If you want to see more of these, subscribe to Mark's channel (Draw Mix Paint) or go to drawmixpaint.com.

It looks like you use Cadmium Red on your pallet, and no Pyrol Red as you said you use all the time....
I call it "closing the canvas" it's the end of act two.
Thought the thumbnail was a baby in a trashcan.
A lot more show and less chat would be wonderful
