You definitely know we are in a boom when these videos start coming up. Crazy how everyone wants everything when there is no easy supply sitting there. Been flipping cards and boxes since 2019. Glad i always stayed in the hobby 😊
20 seconds in and I can tell I'm gonna love this one. Love that you're addressing super common questions to simply help grow the community. It's beautiful
Spot on. Been selling on eBay for 2 years & I’m approaching 6k lifetime sales on eBay in 2 short years. The margins are anything around 5-13% profits after fees on eBay , the volume is what matters. No volume, harder to scale. Repeatedly Buying out peoples collections at 75-80% is the key. 👍 Great Video!
if youre looking for cards to grade, go to a local card shop and ask to see their singles. do your research and pregrade them yourself at the counter. Check centering and quality, whitening etc. If it isn't AWESOME looking, don't bother
Started selling on ebay 6 months ago, our collection was wayyy to big and trading to our local card shop at 50% SUCKED so we started selling on ebay, now it pretty routine buying collections and adding to our master sets and selling extras, 20k in sales this year since july, you can do whatever your comfortable with at first, just focus on growing the store and not taking profits too early and soon it will stand on its own legs/ also have consignment in a local smaller town doing 1k in sales a month, started mystery products and bulk bundles kids LOVE them and i get rid of bulk (50 cards-3 reverses-2 holos-2 v-ex cards and a plastic case for 4$ good gauranteed value for kids and great profit margin for me, looking to do more consignement now just think about how u want to run a buisness you might not want a physical store and you dont NEED a physical store to be successful
@TracyHillsArts for bigger packs like that im not sure, i started out printing a sheet off of microsoft word, and seran wraping it onto an ETB full of stuff and packs, for local consignment works great and kids love them and the value they have and helps me get rid of stuff from breaking down product
I really appreciate you answering the question in the beginning. This hobby lends itself to veteran snobs and gatekeepers (especially on reddit). I really appreciate you taking the time! This is exactly how you get new viewers and newcomers to the hobby (like myself) come to your channel. Subscribed.
This hobby is a waiting game. You buy and sit on it. Unless you have a huge social media presence or 200k in capital for moving in volume, there’s no margin. The only move for small guys is to get good at grading
Props to him, as he is doing the walk and not just the talk as most of us, including myself are doing. Thanks Alex on making this video, as I am researching my next level into the hobby migrating possibly into a part-time business. He asked great questions and you answered them simply as possible for us non-business could understand. 👍
Sometimes when everyone talks about all the little grind stuff "that you would do at other place" or its "boring" but I think something to remember is that its yours, not that "other" place's. I am starting my online pokemon business this upcoming year and Im excited for all the Shipping and boring stuff because it will be mine. I will keep my job till I can tripple my salary.
I think probably one of the most important things that people don’t think about is you need to sell things NOW, if you want to sell anything in the future. If you’re buying a bunch of sealed product now, planning on selling 5+ years in the future, but you have ZERO sales between now and then, you won’t sell anything in the future. You need the positive seller feedback and history so that buyers feel comfortable purchasing something potentially worth a couple hundred dollars from you.
So, I agree with this 100. I immediately started selling my collection.. first my duplicates. Then I bought a few things (obsidian flames build and battle stadium lol no joke)… it was like 22$ a box. But, I added a bunch of filler cards from my collection.. like 5-10 cards to be able to sell boxes at $50. Started to realize pretty quick I’d have to sell my whole collection to be able to buy enough to hold any super long term. I started sourcing slabs and singles. Won more than lost. Figured I had to build the capital and singles although volatile.. is a much quicker way when you don’t have distro. With eBay fees and all that. So, won more than lost.. got pretty lucky. Grown from hundred to thousands in inventory. But, now I’m in this limbo of… I invested in xy the mostly (I’m not heavy in any way), still a small fry. I just am at the point where I feel I can make profit with what I have, at the same time I feel I’d be stupid to sell right now. As well as, what sealed I have invested into is just that.. for the long hold. Surging goes to $300 plus I have some to let go. But, I have enough to start transitioning into more sealed and selling that way.. but, I’m just curious (sorry for the long winded precursor to my question)… should I let go of the monster plays and sell at comfortable margins and keep rolling.. or should I slow down for the next few years and let it all mature..? If I allow it to mature.. I feel like it’s just patience at that point. Like I don’t need it all now… or go hard and potentially create that in a shorter amount of time? It’s hard not to see it all and see what everyone’s doing.. and not feel like hey maybe I could make it work out. I’m 1 full year back in. I find it hard to let stuff go because I do buy the things I love. Cards that I want to chase. But, man I’m not going to lie… in no way do I assume any of it will be easy. Or that I won’t hate packing hundreds of orders.. (I don’t enjoy packing 1 lol) or that it not a guarantee.. I have no desire to be on UA-cam or ripping packs on whatnot. Dealing with customers isn’t bad because I feel that I’m an honest dude. But, getting screwed would be hard. All that being said I still would love to give it a go..
@@lsb_gamer7579 yea what am trying to say is that it not 100 percent your old Pokémon won’t sell. Maybe won’t sell quick as someone that been in business for along time.
You’re a good guy Alex, Unfortunately, this guy is more than likely doomed. Why would you ever start your own business knowing almost nothing about it. Good luck to this guy, I hope it works out for him.
Good stuff, as always. Would you consider talking about the shipping process some time? Where to get boxes/mailers/packing materials? What printers to use? Shipper preference? Is PayPal a good way to purchase labels? Keep up the good work Alex. Your knowledge and insight are a godsend!
Thanks for educating newer people to the hobby! with the new hype round the tcg world, a lot of people who shouldnt be selling in the hobby are getting into it, 2020 all over again, this will definitely be interesting in the next 2-3 years, these kinds of people will create interesting opportunities on the downturn. Thank you for your videos!
My buddy opened a website to sell Japanese booster boxes. Took him 2 years of sending 3 wire transfers to 3 different sellers 1 was good 2 was very bad. Took a few to get money back from the scams. Then he did it again sent 3 got 1 same thing. After doing this for 3 years he finally has what he wanted in first place. That is the reason people don't give their distribution location to Any one ! Like i said it took 3 years of CRAP so why would you tell another competitor location it took 3 years to get? Some just want it now but sad truth is you have to do the work first then you can get the rewards. He also never opens packs cuz they are all for sale.
Awesome video my brotha! I have a Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Anchorage Alaska and looking to open a local and selective gaming store just outside Anchorage. I sold my collection as I was retiring from the Army, not really knowing their worth. Got 4500$ and the guy opened a store with them, lol. Lifelong mtg player first and still play every Sunday with my son. I really do thank you for the video!
Im starting my IG store. Hopefully i can get up and running by Jan 2025. Mostly s&s and s&v era that i bought at msrp during covid. You want to be successful like Alex and have distros come to you? Idk Alex at all but I can say this, the man puts in work. You couldn't pay me to crack packs for 3+ hours and keep my energy up. You could, but I couldn't do it. I ain't got that energy. The man has been grinding for years and because of his hard work it's resulted in even more work and this mfkr didn't even blink but leaned into it 👍💪 I really thought the booster box December was a bad idea but not because of the lack of views it might bring. I don't want our boy burning out when he should be making hay for himself while the sun is shining. I am not saying this to discourage people but to commend Alex.
