Temporal Forces is definitely one of my favorite Scarlet and Violet sets-it has some of the best artworks of the era, so I picked up a case for $695 3 weeks ago (Obviously extremely happy with that purchase). Also looking to get some Surging Sparks, but I'm going to wait on that. I do think it will perform wonderfully long term, but it'll almost certainly come down to a more reasonable price point in 2025 with reprints. Love your opinion on giving primary sellers the profit rather than flippers/scalpers btw-I hadn't thought about market value in the way you described it before.

Alex, I think what we can say for the remaining sets are that they are most likely to finish strongly.ie the sets released will be good. We can say that for SM and SWSH, this was the case. It will be up to the public as to what they think are the cards or sets they favour more. Pokemon know what they are doing, and I am waiting with abated breath as to sets that will be issued in 2025. The last holiday set, how will they top CZ and Prismatic Evolutions? Can't wait!!

Idk man i collect coins for 30 years also fishing lures and knifes and shinny cardboard ALL has went up in value sure some has went up and down. I still don't sell im a collector past 15 years i started collecting any tools that made in USA . Unless you just starting out you have no clue we all make mistakes in beginning 🎉

I think people are mixing their tastes in sets with their investing brain. Personally, the only era which I don't think the last 2 sets were the best, from my personal taste, is XY, and Original Series. Everything else, my favorite set is either last or second to last set. But that is not really an indicator of value of a box. Clearly long-term the market values something different than me, and I have to just accept that when choosing how much of what to hold for how long.

U think it’s worth it at this price for booster boxes? Besides surging I think all the booster box prices are still worth it in the long run.

Without looking at values, later sets tend to have better pullrates/ chases. Like you said, Sun and Moon has Tag teams cards, Sword n Shield we had Trainer Gallery which gave a better pullrates then earlier sets. So we can say that in general, later sets have a better fun/cost ratio than earlier sets. I totally agree it is not a rule! But later sets (not talking about specialty / .5 sets) tend to have a better quality in quantity/fun. In exemple, I'd rather open a silver tempesr booster box than a fusion strike booster. My expectations fun/ratio is higher on silver tempest because of the pullrates. Because Fusion Strikes has more value in the booster boxes or chases, doesn't mean it is more fun to open. Thats why im saying later sets tend to be better in quantity quality.

Not a rule, but halfway through a generations set cycle they typically bring about a new expansion mechanic that has great potential for explosive sets! You can almost always bet on base sets being not as flashy because they are setting up the next gen of TCG. That's also not a rule just has a track history behind it. 😅Through the process of elimination i don't think that saying that later sets are typically better is a bad thing to say, just don't go around calling it a fact haha.

The biggest "gimmick" in sword and shield were the alt arts, and all the alt art boxes are much more valuable than the earlier sets in the era without alt arts. I think many people incorrectly attribute the value difference due to the timing (middle/end of era) instead of looking at the actual changes (adding alt arts) that caused increased popularity and value. I'm not familiar with anything like that coming in scarlet & violet, but even if there was some kind of "gimmick" introduced, any changes in popularity or value would be due to the gimmick, not the timing of the gimmick lol.
