One of my favourite moments in Michael Cockerell's exquisite documentaries is when one statement is immediately contradicted by another, beautifully belying the double-speak employed by the political class. 4:56 is a fine example.
@@gnenian If you mean when this programme was made, the answer is no, as the existence of MI5 and MI6 was made official in 1994 by John Major's government.
Ah yes well spotted, I hadn't realised that but now you say it I remember the clips in the offices of state trio. I was sure I hadn't seen this before but started watching and was sure I'd seen some clips, and that explains it. Well spotted 👍 I've noticed on many of these types of documentaries they often reuse clips from other documentaries it happens a lot in documentaries about Thatcher or the labour party of the 70s & 80s when those topics are covered.
What a beautiful documentary. The music at the end was so tasteful . I wish the BBC Continued to make such shows instead of all that left wing political garbage they shell out nowadays.
@@tyqwdybijo no I'm not a communist, they are a right wing channel. They might not be right on immigration but if you look at them overall they are very right wing. Facts are left wing! With a few exceptions.
@@tyqwdybijo Thing is you can’t give a single example suggesting the BBC are left wing. I can give you numerous examples, modern and historical about how the BBC are sympathetic towards the government of the day, and many instances in recent years where they have shown bias towards the government in their conduct and programming. For instance for the past 5 or so years there has been a statistical dominance of right wing commentators and guests on BBC programmes; and a large proportion of senior BBC staff have previously worked for or have gone on to work for the Conservative Party. The government also appoint their donors onto the boards and as Director General. I can go into these things a lot more if you need as I studied BBC history as part of my history degree, but it’s after midnight atm so I’m gonna leave it here for now.

Dear Foreign Secretary, Can you please speak about the Strategy towards the EU later this evening? Yoo are invited at the BBC to speak about your views.

The Tv programme “Yes Minister” was a pretty decent reference to this lot !
I need to try "A kind thought, but sadly erroneous" the next time I'm asked to do something at work.
That's a great trick to be able to keep your eyes open when you fall asleep
Michael Cockerell is a master. Another fabulous one!
Can’t wait to have the job!
made different with the UK out of the EU now.
Thanks so much for uploading this gem!!!
I was extremely surprised how silent they went when the interviewer asked them about spying on EU member states.
I mean, it's obviously because they were so insulted that someone would even suggest such a terrible thing, right?

Was that back when we did not admit or deny MI6s existence (as Yes Minister was in it's day).
100% they'd been spying on us too.

There was a slightly sinister, knowing look in Malcolm Rifkind's eyes - enjoyable!
"I cannot talk about that" obviously means "yes".
You might very well think that.
They recycled most of this for their series 'the great offices of state'

who thinks robin who walked up and down mountains regularly died of a heart attack
Why do you think someone killed Robin why couldn't he just die from natural causes
