Anyone living in an American slum district would look at this and say "gee, that's a nice neighborhood." Even here in Canada, where there are no American-style slums, much less poverty and crime, and much better social supports than in the U.S., our worst places are uglier than this. Frankly, I would rather live in a neighbourhood like the one shown here than I would in some of the prosperous but boring middle class suburbs recently built on the outskirts of Toronto. That's why I happily live in the middle of the city, in what is considered a "bad" neighbourhood. Finland is doing a good job.
Yeah, Finnish cities have put a lot of effort in to renovating the front of the houses, nowadays, they don’t seem that bad. I’m not even sure if they were ever as bad as the worst ones in the USA. :D
Plus in Finland we don't have these "closed" slum areas. Even the neighborhoods with the worst reputation are almost always located right next to a better neighborhood.
You honestly think this is bad? I live right in Hakunila and the place is popular as family area. You can walk out any time of the day dependless who you are with no issues ever. I think its absolute joke to call this a "bad area'

Pitäis eristää koko alue, ettei paikalliset vaan pääse vahingossakaan ulkomaailmaan.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
