Mike! 🤣 It's nuts how competitive Nationals is compared to local tournaments. You are absolutely right that 3.0 at Nationals is really more like 3.5-4.0 at a local tournament or club.
I played 3.0 in the 75 MXDs at Nationals. My UTPR rating was 3.4 and my WPR is 3.7. My partner was about a 3.0. We won the Bronze Medal. In my first match I played against a former MDS partner who plays and wins at 3.5. I beat him and partner but then lost the match in the medal round. He and partner won Silver. The teams you are watching are high 3.0, however the one male Asian player looks more like a 3.5. The women are definitely 3.0 level.
I think it’s just that this is Pickleball Nationals Gold Medal Match! You have to qualify with a gold medal in a regional tournament first to even make it to Nationals. It makes sense to me that we’re getting very high level play! At a local tournament, the level would be much lower.
Love the friendly yet very competitive energy here! That combo makes for great pickleball and fun watching :)
Very nice Gold match, thought a couple of those outs hit the line but I was able to rewind... good sportsmanship!
Yeah the SukiYaki Kid is hammering the hell out of it. I can see Pickleball is just like USTA. FOS

If these people are 3.0 players, then I guess that I am a 1.0.

It’s because the tournament used UTPR ratings which is painfully inaccurate and they would not allow people to move up to their correct bracket.
😂

No kidding. No way they are 3.0
No way. The whole process is broken if they allow that level of play as 3.0.

Thank goodness I looked at the comments, I felt the same as ev1 else. No way is this 3.0, 3.5 more accurate.
Love the energy of the lady in the pink top ..would love a partner like her...lucky dude .
I don't understand why everybody is in such a hurry... there's no time limit on a game, just on the serve...
The shot @4:03 I would have challenged that!
Agree! I thought that was in too!
Looking at it frame by frame it looks in to me.
Pickleball newb here. Why do they sometimes stand on the same side when serving? I wouldn't want someone standing in my box when serving.
It's called stacking, to get the players on their preferred side after the serve. It's important not to crowd the server in that situation.
In game 2 they started with the wrong server and it made it so confusing. They ended up doing a really weird stack as a result.
Sandbagging out of CONTROL...sucks
Agree
My wife and I should start at 2.5 I guess
How does the rating system work? They should increase in rating at each event that they win matches in right?
Is the height of the ball on the serve of the guy in the camo t shirt close to above the waist?
Some of his serves are at least waist high or above
I saw the same thing. And, both the lady in white and the man in blue are using a downward motion on their drop serve.
Not 3.0 where I come from, more like 4.0
