That tow bill would've been astronomical.
My only tip for that situation and has worked for me is to use your floor mats and dig out from under the tyre in sand or on solid ground jack the van up if you can and get your mats under there. It's worked for me a couple of times in a Suzuki Samari/Vitara using four mats. 😵💫☃

As a fellow Ford Econoline owner, I'd be interested to see what your transmission temperatures were on the climb up the hill. Now, I'm in a Sportsmobile though so I'm way heavier than you but it couldn't have been super favorable.

All the bikes are riding the Ortega Hwy, going to Cooks Corner, Santiago, Modjeseka, Silverado Cyn. Hwy 18 on the backside is a much easier drive than the front side. The 38 out it's a nice drive and less crowded.

Used to live in Rialto, good times. Big Bear is 6700+ ft elevation, been on State Route 18 many times.
