Reupload because the last one got nuked by Warner Bros, was one of my oldest vids so it's likely many of you haven't seen it. More new content this week.
Thank you for the slop Mr Coolea 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
bro suffering for the culture
You should make these as playlists and share em so the audience could add recommendations that might apply and maybe in a couple years redo the video
What is your Spotify??? 🙏🙏🙏
You like Coolea? His early work was a little too fast paced for my taste. But when "Goth fashion explained" came out in late October, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole video has a clear, crisp message, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the video a big boost. He's been compared to 4chan's /mu/ hivemind, but I think Coolea has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
In the April Coolea released this: "An Ignorant guide to Shoegaze", his most accomplished video. I think his undisputed masterpiece is when he talks about Slowdive. Part so funny, most people don't listen to what he's saying. But they should, because it's not just about the way Slowdive advertised themselves and the importance of trends. It's also a statement about the band itself.
HEY PAUL
“Slaughters Paul with a Loveless vinyl.”
tame impala makes the most sense to me, it's got that classic pop vibe combined with the whole outsider-y thing and also he could inform his victims that it's just one guy while he axes them
When Bateman is talking to Paul about Huey Lewis I thought he was just reciting a review he had read. His need for validation, to appear cultured even to his victim. Bateman would be a profuse Melon enjoyer.
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
He would certainly listen to that Chris Chan & The Hedgehog Boys album
he is a the smiths typa guy
Patrick Bateman listens to mainstream pop music that hit the charts. it has to be trending, it has to be well-like by people, but it also has to be a shallow product of his time. He wants to fit, that´s his criteria. He might actually give you and speech on why Taylor Swift is influential before killing you.
He would listen to whatever the trends and taste makers of the day would be telling him to listen to, so much of his personality is molded to appear as normal and progressive as possible. The one artist you mentioned that I thought he would listen to going into this video was Adele, she's the perfect amount of extremely critically acclaimed and commercially successful paired with being pretty boring imo, he would eat that up and talk about her breaking conventions in some way shape or form. I also could imagine him being a fan of Charli XCX and talking about how she's known for boom clap but that her real masterpiece is Vroom Vroom or Pop 2. I think The Weeknd is also a great pick along with Imagine Dragons.
Also I think something worth considering is the fact that, because he would try to appear progressive and forward thinking, he would probably talk about record labels like PC Music and what they're doing to make the musical landscape a more inclusive place.
Bateman definitely listens to /mu/core
Hey Coolea, slight mistake in this video. Patrick bateman is opposed to hip hop in the book. I cant say the full sentence he used to describe it, in fear of my comment being taken down, but lets just say he uses the very harsh words :)
Allow me NI-
its the scene near the end of the book when he goes to the club and there are regular people there right?
@@failedcaptcha the one im referring to is some inner monologue about music. Its been a while since i read the book so I don’t remember the particular scene you’re referring to
he only like soulless corporate music that is trending top of the charts so in 2024 he would absolutely be a hip hop fan.
Love how this is a music channel that ,essentially, doesn't use or show the music it presents
yeah, yt takes stuff down pretty quick if there's more than 4 seconds of a song so better be safe by just not having any there
6:45 I read Burzum and immediately knew what was coming
Pumped Up Kicks kinda comes to mind for me as a modern song for Patrick Bateman
Honestly I feel like he would just listen to spotify top 100, he often says that he likes a certain artist specifically after they had a commercial boom. He would also probably often quote pitchfork or Anthony Fantano reviews to make himself seem like he has actual opinions on the music (like he does in the novel and movie, speaking as if he's quoting a NY Times album review). But I also feel like he would listen to a lot of random fucked up shit in the shadows, dudr probably has Eraser by Nine Inch Nails on constant loop. He definitely listens to Kanye tho that's obvious.
most def he would listen to whatever albums his local coffee shop sells
Was expecting some low effort memes but got a deep quality thesis on Bateman's character.
you should do a video on skramz/screamo
I think he actually wouldn’t like any artist in particular.
At the time the movie came out, it was hard to get individual songs to your playlist, so you had to listen to whole albums, also it was harder to discover artists, so he had to stick to whatever he heard on the radio and liked. That’s why his taste was so “accesible”.
I’d guess that modern Patrick Bateman would listen to like 1000 songs by 1000 different artists, he would over analyze those songs. This would go all the way from Taylor Swift to Death Grips.
no, i think he'd still listen primarily to mainstream music. he would however overanalyze that.
remember, a big part of his character is trying to fit in and appear normal. He puts a lot of effort into seeming successfull and socially acceptable. Listening to something like death grips would put a chink in that and he'd hate that. He'd hate death grips fans too.
Radio back then wasn't like now, they had more obscure or experimental channels. They'd have a punk or metal channel that you could listen to at home or at work. Whereas today all those genre's have moved on to streaming services or digital sites, leaving behind only the most vapid of pop and rock to fill space for people who can't be bothered to hook their bluetooth up to their car or dont have any.
Great video, anyone copyright claiming it can suck it, keep it up man!
I think when it comes to Adele, Bateman would prefer Rolling in the Deep. Especially as 21 is where Adele "came into her own both artistically and commercially"
I think that he would listen to arctic monkeys & tyler the creator. Idk why it just seems fitting.
What is your Spotify???
Bateman doesn't listen to trendy music, he listens to music that clicks with his ideals. He hates the world around him and the corporate world, he hates who he tries to be just to fit in.
I feel that weed pin by drug church fits in pretty well here. Aside from the obvious cannabis references in the song, the song is about a hatred for the corporate world and the rules behind it. Great song.
he would definitely just listen to the rym top 100
this is either a cry for help or a god tier shitpost
He’d get all his music opinions from RYM
Music for psychopaths is an instrument to socialise so he would just listen to classics or the most popular ones
Yo whatever song you got in the background is giving me great dark ambient/huge chrome cylinder box unfolding vibes, do you have a link for it?
you should've put "the reason they hate me" on silly time
iykyk
You really don’t understand Bateman, he doesn’t actually like music, it’s a part of his mask. He only listens to music to make it seem like he fits, music is research for him on society
This. Missed the point entirely, Bateman would actually hate Burzum with a passion as anything alternative or controversial according to mainstream appeal. He only liked Genesis because they stopped doing prog and sold out.
Patrick Bateman- Sounds like he's quite the special star ♡
Fun facts about Starfish :
°They've no brains, no blood, instead they circulate water in a vascular system throughout their body!
°They're not actually fish
°They move with a bunch of tiny tiny suction feet, that are strong enough to rip apart their shelled friends, such as Mussels and clams! :3
° There's a star fishy that's metal AF, their bodies are covered in spikes and are called 'Crown of Thorns' Sometimes abrieviated to COTS 👌🏻✨️
this is acc sick lmao
he'd be listening to duster
Ironically this was a bateman-esque overly analytic monologue of a niche topic of interest to potentially nobody. Nailed it !
I love the idea of this video and even as someone who doesn’t enjoy pop music that much I agree with most of what you said!! HOWEVER as a trans/queer person and someone who has read the book and watched the movie I think an important part of his character is the lack of empathy to minorities and I disagree that you say it’s because of the culture at the time, so I think the inclusion of lil nas x is off because of his open queerness and sexualisation of himself (I love lil nas x btw) but that’s just my interpretation of the character as a queer person ❤️
I think you hit the nail on the head. But I feel like Bateman is definitely more into Haunted Mound than discused. Definitely a few tracks off Rainbow Bridge 3 in the murder playlist. You're spot on with bladee tho he's 150% a drainer
He definitely got some death grips in there too
nice
I really want to know why "How I Could Just Kill A Man" didn't make the Silly Time playlist.
What is your Spotify????!! 😊
yooooooooooo
Definitely Ice Nine Kills too.
may be a little too scene (especially the early, pre-silver-scream albums)
@@SixDifferentWays. I meant the Silver Scream albums
@@SixDifferentWays. but when the silver scream came out, they really came into their own, so i think bateman definitely would be listening to them
@@pussinheadset both commercially, as well as artistically, which for one album, is hard to pull off
my wart is still there
patrick batemans modern music taste is FUCK BEES on loop
Also probably Deathgrips or something
3:10 song?
Racism is a part of Bateman, he's exceptionally racist compared to the average person of that day...
he would also listen to tyler the creator
0:37 not the antagonist, minor description fumble, (i havent read the book or seen the movie but im still gonna pretend im right)
Do you think Bateman would be into "All Star" by Smash Mouth?
"Patrick Bateman monologue voice" I quite love the song "all star" by smash mouth. It is a unbelievably Steller take on modern life from the musical genius of Steve Harwell. It gained the popularity it deserved after the smash hit Shreck. This song commonly references a man down on his luck navigating through life. Truley a masterpiece
IMHO a closet Slayer enjoyer, definitely no Deftones here.
5:36 I see what you did here
So sigma 😍
Patrick Basedman
Bateman would defineteley listen to machine girl
Now make the same but if Patrick Bateman was racist. Then make the playlists shareable so I can listen to it
If?
Feel like bateman would love Grand Piano by Nicki Minaj
I think he would be the most annoying Tool fan
Bateman definitely fw bladee
I think he’d listen to Taylor swift, idk
He has no taste in music, it would be very shallow if he did. He just quotes Spin and Melody Maker reviews.
He’d listen to rap but definitely be racist. Saying it’s a product of the time and not acknowledging the state of America now is crazy
